Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Oh, I agree non-IP would have been million times better; I’d vote for it to become a re-envisioning of Western River Expedition. I just meant that, if they’re dead-set on a new IP for the ride, PatF’s story and music fit the track layout so well it’s kind of weird. 😃

Even within the IP itself their is room to at least do Splash some justice and there is room to fail terribly. The bones (sets, ride layout, AAs) of the attraction and the IP are there for them to do a good job. Hopefully this is where Baxter can lend a helping hand. Less is more here.

So.... just about every Disney blog is repeating the one, short and vague phrase from Josh and packaging into a full blog entry.

It could be summarized as: "No news since nothing's changed."
I think the news is that it's being fast tracked instead of being delayed. I'm all for the change and even I thought this would sit on the back burner for a while.
I don't think anyone was ever like "I don't feel welcome at this place because of the log ride about the rabbit."
You say that, but my wife told me after the PotC auction scene change that the old acene had always rubbed her the wrong way. She never said anything about it for all the years we'd been going. It's like she'd been keeping it to herself until Disney acknowledged it was a problem.

I remember Bob Iger saying that California Adventure 1.0 was a brand withdrawal for the company. The slow steamroller of retheming classic attractions is a greater withdrawal, shows a fundamental misunderstanding of why Disney parks have been so successful, and is robbing the parks of any originality. It's actually kind of amazing to me that these decisions are continuing to be made. When every park is basically a glorified "studio" park, what's going to be special about Disneyland? It's an absolute shame that this is happening to Splash and I fear it's the beginning of a long line of seeing legacy attractions get the same treatment.
i agree new raven.

Im all for the change as long as they do it well which I have faith they will.

I like The Princess and the Frog movie and it takes place in the bayou and even has the haunted mansion in it so I think it fits well theming wise. And also I think its a pretty big deal to have a black disney princess in the parks. Now im not saying black people feel uncomfortable or unwelcomed in disney parks in any capacity but I mean god damn, imagine being a black person and having 0 representation in the disney castle parks still in 2020. And again PatF is a legit good movie imo and deserves some shine in the parks.
I have minimal faith they’ll do it well. Pirates auction scene is a disaster, incredicoaster has bad show scenes, and even though it’s fun, Guardians is one screen after another. Declining by degrees indeed.

Most splash refurbs on both coasts typically happen in January. I can see them close up shop then and have it debut for summer.

Or, let's be positive. When the park reopens it becomes not only one of the most highly demanded attractions, but also one of the top ranking in guest satisfaction surveys. So Disney postpones the removal indefinitely.

I can dream, right?

If this reImagining of Splash is as important as they say it is, to truly honor PATF, it better take more than a couple of months or the attraction will go down as another disaster like Pirates auction scene, Pixar Pier overlay, and the like.

Splash deserves a sustained farewell period. There are no hardcore Jungle Cruise junkies and ultimately it will re-emerge fairly similar to what's there now, so it doesn't bother me that it will be changed when it reopens.
I thought the Jungle Cruise was also a change will happen at some time in the future or is that just Florida?

I'm not sure what the timeline is for Florida, but I remember reading that the Califorian Jungle Cruise would reopen with the changes. Of course, I can't find that wording right now...

But they promised an opportunity to ride it before they got rid of it, and they owe it to their visitors to honor that promise.
If they really have concerns about it being politically correct in today's environment, do you really think they will celebrate it leaving with a "farewell period"? My guess is that they just announce it is closing and move on.

They DID announce that there would be an opportunity for last rides, and indeed WDW's has been open from its first day of reopening.

Whether or not they will choose to honor it for whatever reason (unexpected length of DL closure, increased pressure from ___________, etc), though, is out of our control.

I would hope that even if they want to get anything affiliated with SOTS out of there ASAP they recognize that Splash is one of their modern classics and deserves an appropriate send-off. Or at the very least an announced date.

It’s Disney, they still sell merch for a farewell period. They know their is money to be made there.
If I'm judging by past history, absolutely. But if they are truly making these changes because of the challenges with the movie behind the attraction, it would be a big mistake PR wise IMO.

I think there will absolutely be an announced date.

One things for certain - what happens in late April will show how committed WDI is to rushing this in the name of expediency vs. producing a quality product long in the making.

If this is the latter I would anticipate both SM’s on both coasts may likely not close until new attractions at MK and DL are completed, following the completion of Tron and the 50th as well as MMRR/TT. This could push the project to early 2023 start.

But with a new Tiana show in the making for D+ for 2023, as well as news of “fast tracking” it’s possible TDA and WDI may determine the “juice ain’t worth the squeeze” and will decide not to open with SM. One quick farewell tour in Florida may suffice in terms of merch sales.

I've not seen or heard anything to indicate that DL made the JC changes during their shut-down. If they did, they'd be hawking it like the changes to Snow White or HM.

As I recall in the permit thread there were some recent filings this month that may be tied to these changes. Could be wring
