2007 at WDW - "Year of a Million Refurbs"

How the heck can you CRY about that?!?! The parks, especially Magic Kingdom, have been falling apart for years now - and the sole reason is that stuff DOESN'T close for rehab as often as it does at Disneyland.

I see this as *fantastic* news that they're putting serious effort into getting the things back up to the standards they were once at.

When all's said and done, I hope the current major rehabs are done properly and thoroughly *cough*PotC*cough* and future regular light rehabs to maintaion these standards become the norm, not the exception. Maybe finally Burbank and Glendale have shown Orlando brass the error in their ways. Or a slideshow from DLC 99-01!

This is GOOD NEWS, not bad news. We all love WDW and especially the Magic Kingdom, and having it fixed up nice is nothing but a relief. I never want to see my favorite attractions fall apart and remain partially broken. It bothers me when I ride a Disney ride and see something not working right, it's just not the Disney way. I love the fact that Disney is hitting all the major attractions at the Magic Kingdom to help keep it as WDW's central park and the park to which all other parks standards are set. I say keep it coming until the park shines like it did in the 70's.....well minus 20,000 leagues and Mr. Toad, and Mickey Mouse Review, and....you know what I meant.

a little over 3 weeks has to be minor...just a small sprucing up. The type of projects they tend to do in time periods like that are updates to dispatch systems, replacement of parts (like placing new chains on the chain lifts), painting, etc. I would not expect to see a loop installed :D

I don't know. From what I heard, the Loop they removed from "Son of Beast" at King's Island was being shipped to Florida

This is good new indeed

I work at the MK and let me tell you, any and every refurb is greatly needed. Since the MK is the most popular Theme park in the world things get broken on a daily basis and are constantly needing attention. I hate to break it to you guys, but if you think this is the end of the world (referring to the closure of BTMR) just wait until they close Space Mountain for a year. Like it or not, it's a fact and it coming up soon!

The noise is so loud because the caves echo and amplify the chain lift noise. It'll stay, unless they change the lift mechanisms to a quieter design like Everest... but I don't see why they would.

I would like to see them fix the shaking boulders. I know that they used to move, but I don't recall seeing them move in recent years.

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like we should get to ride it, if the schedule holds. And if not then, it'll still be there when I return.

The more refurbs the better, I say. I'm so excited about all this activity! :D

Try having it down for two years. That wasn't easy...
ours might be closed that long...depends on how extensive they decide the refurbishment will be. A COMPLETE overhaul would take more than 2 years. DL kinda slacked off a little during the beginning of the refurbishment (when Harriss was still around), though, so 18 months ought to be reasonable for a complete track removal and construction of a new coaster with effects.
