Thorough bag checks

It could speed up entry into the park and possibly (hopefully) help with finding anything considered dangerous.

I bought a clear pack for exactly the same reasons. Usually you zip right through and the guards appreciate it. However, I had an over zealous guard make me unzip the clear back so that he could look in the top of the compartment at the 4 items in it. Really? Another time the guard made me take all 4 items out of the clear pack so she could inspect each item. That is simply absurd and should not be tolerated.

I realize that they have a job to do, but the only way to actually make people really safe is to do the kind of searches and pat downs that no one would endure. Short of those types of inspections, what Disney is doing is all to appease the lawyers. Anyone determined to do harm to people or property would be doing it.

The bag I use in the parks has a pocket for conceal carry of a full size pistol. It's not an obvious pocket and when loaded there isn't any discernible change to the bag. I've only had two or three instances were they noticed the pocket and asked to have it opened, one of them was because the CM owned the same bag.

This ^ Bag checks are to keep the honest people honest and are really just for show. Unless you are screening everyone who enters the parks it's really not a great measure.

True! My DH has everything from a bottle of sunscreen to a full-size Epipen box (he has shellfish and nut allergies) stuffed in the giant pockets of his cargo shorts. He waltzes past bag check with a couple of pounds of gear, while my teeny crossbody bag that barely has room enough for my sunglasses gets inspected. Anyone who wanted to get around the bag check could do so easily. The whole thing is definitely just theater (as I learned on the last episode of the excellent show "Adam Ruins Everything," which covered why TSA inspection procedures are similarly just for show).

I'd have to ask when they implemented the bag check and how many acts of violence happened before that. That's when I'd be able to make a definitive decision to its worth.

Well, Ben was a founding father and all, but I just don't agree with him on this one. It's not the same world as when he was around, and there are a lot of people with no honor willing to do harm to many who don't deserve it. If I can be kept safer, then I'm fully willing to give up a bit of Liberty to purchase it.

Im fairly confident the bag checks were part of the post-9/11 panic.

exactly im a big proponent of conceal carry myself. (granted technically not allowed at WDW) and i also support the right of private property owners to choose not to allow it.

because society has evolved...as a whole..not because of any direct correlation of bag checks or anything else for that matter. than again Rowe v Wade decreased crime more than anything security or police could ever hope to do. (go ahead google it)

Bombs have existed for centuries. As have a variety of other weapons. Hand guns are the only really big leap in personal weapons and would not be stopped by the bag checks.

I disagree, but I'm pretty sure a discussion of Roe v. Wade would be in direct violation of forum rules. :)
