I bought a clear pack for exactly the same reasons. Usually you zip right through and the guards appreciate it. However, I had an over zealous guard make me unzip the clear back so that he could look in the top of the compartment at the 4 items in it. Really? Another time the guard made me take all 4 items out of the clear pack so she could inspect each item. That is simply absurd and should not be tolerated. We always use a clear backpack and f@nny pack just to get through security faster. We still open the zippers just in case they want to dig, but everything is there for all to see. I don't care. We're all there to have a magical time and are probably carrying around the same stuff anyway. We've never had an issue. The only time people said anything was when my husband carried around the one with the pale pink straps. [on a side note - most people thought pink was his color] The guards thank us because they can see everything in a split second. I don't know why Disney doesn't sell them. It could speed up entry into the park and possibly (hopefully) help with finding anything considered dangerous.
I realize that they have a job to do, but the only way to actually make people really safe is to do the kind of searches and pat downs that no one would endure. Short of those types of inspections, what Disney is doing is all to appease the lawyers. Anyone determined to do harm to people or property would be doing it.
Ben Franklin said it best:
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
