Thorough bag checks

Be real...if you think they're effective then you probably think the TSA is effective too. This stuff you "saw" is the same stuff that people have brought in for years.
Be real..open your biased eyes the next time your there. They catch lots of stuff and have for years just like you say. People have brought stuff for years and it's been caught for years.

Oh, and I don't care about the TSA it's what CATSA does that's important to me. Yep, I'm not American.

Biased about what? Not being a sheep that thinks that the bag check actually makes a difference? Did the bag check catch the idiot that left his/her gun on Dinosaur? And yeah, my point is bolstered by what you've said. People have been bringing stuff in for years, and how many murders or crimes as such have been reported? How many were avoided due to the bag check?

My only bias is logic, and I'll cop to being biased on it's side.

Even if it was some sort of scanner the vehicle went through when going through the gates.

It's a crazy world. Whatever needs to be done to keep the parks safe!
I'm one of the ones who is happy when it takes long to board a flight. Check every last nook and cranny before getting anything or anyone on the plane I say.

Yeah some people like to be reassured throughout life. Others realize stuff happens and aren't fans of liberty being torn down to make the former group feel better.

Cops also catch drug dealers.....but guess what's still out there....your more likely to die in a car accident in (insert homeland here) than have harm come to you if there where no bag checks. Stuff in life happens the liberty of all trumps the worry and harm of a few.

Apparently finding a gun or a knife in a bag assumes that the owner intended to use them to cause harm during their visit. It's not illegal to own a knife or gun, granted it would be better not to have them in the parks, but it's not illegal to own them. To treat everyone as a criminal suspect before entering the "happiest place on earth" seems a bit of a mixed message. I'm not so sure anymore that I want to be in a place that has to be "defended" in such an intrusive way. Maybe there are people young enough who have become used to having their possessions searched like his, but for a whole lot of us this is invasive and demeaning. I'm growing more and more weary of having my belongs pawed through by strangers. Even had to unpack lunch once so the guard could touch each item. That was appetizing. How long before we have to show our "papers"? We have to show a photo ID when entering the parking lot with an AP. We have to be searched before entering the park. Our movements are tracked through RFID during our visit. What is next? Rethinking this whole Disney thing...[/QUOTE]

It's so refreshing to go to other venues or events and be able to move freely without the bag checks and suspicion.

Yes, but I'm betting many, if not most, of those venues AREN'T one of the most heavily visited tourist destinations on the planet.

Compared to other spots, WDW's security is far less intrusive.

That example wasn't direct equivalency, necessarily, just an observation meant to express my weariness with the level of scrutiny that Disney has deemed necessary. And the constant suspicion. There has been an increase in the number of security personnel present in the parks as well. It doesn't make me feel safe; quite the opposite. It makes me feel like I am visiting a potentially very dangerous place. This has caused quite a lot of contemplation in our family on whether the trade off is worth it. I'm just not sure how much longer I'm willing to trade my own sense of integrity for access to theme parks. If they feel that the threat to their property is such that they have to enact this level of security - it gives me pause. That's all I'm saying. We've been visiting WDW for more than 35 years; even worked there for five years. However, the price, both financially and in personal dignity is stating to become more than we are willing to pay.

Thank you to you and @Matt_Black and the others here who always make me laugh!

You're very welcome; I try my best.

However, the price, both financially and in personal dignity is stating to become more than we are willing to pay.

I can understand the former; as my posts have no doubt demonstrated, I personally am generally unconcerned with the latter. HEY-O!

Back to the OP, it really depends on who you get and how thorough they want to be. I always go through bag check with a diaper bag, cooler bag and stroller. Sometimes they just glance into the diaper bag, and others they will sift through it with their flashlight and then feel around the outside/bottom. I have nothing to hide and don't mind one bit to have my bags checked.

I'd leave a dirty diaper in there just for fun.

We always use a clear backpack and f@nny pack just to get through security faster. We still open the zippers just in case they want to dig, but everything is there for all to see. I don't care. We're all there to have a magical time and are probably carrying around the same stuff anyway. We've never had an issue. The only time people said anything was when my husband carried around the one with the pale pink straps. [on a side note - most people thought pink was his color:)] The guards thank us because they can see everything in a split second. I don't know why Disney doesn't sell them. It could speed up entry into the park and possibly (hopefully) help with finding anything considered dangerous.

Be real...you should have seen what they found at bag checks this week. I saw two knives, selfie sticks, and several other sharp objects. Every time I went through they found something.

The other thing, take a look at the people casually standing around. They are observing people to see if they look suspicious. Three times last week I saw people who got through bag check who were 'greeted' by these casual observers who took them aside and did a much more thorough check, and in two of those cases called over the Orange County Sherrif officers. Be real...the real cops are there just not very obvious.

So, there is a lot more going on than you may think. Just be a bit more observant the next time.

I'm observant. My point is that the screening they do isnt serious enough. IF they are finding lots of dangerous items being brought into the parks, (as you say youve witnessed it every time .... selfie sticks dont really count though ) then they should be more vigilant in screening guests ... so there should be stricter screening. Which would back up lines entering the parks for who knows how long. Until they do it right, I'll check out the shortest, fastest line to get into the parks.
