Is this comment serious? Your right I was mistaken cause I thought you actually were under the impression that a clown flipped burgers at McDonalds. As I said before I'm just somebody with no artistic IQ I guess who appreciates his artwork.. I don't understand why people keep bashing him when I am no longer putting up defense. Unbelievable:ROFLOL:

Because you keep posting.

Wow. The very first responder to the post was right, people were avoiding the subject I guess :brick:. I had no idea it would turn into Ronald McDonald, Walt Disney, and urination.

Seriously, I'm uneducated when it comes to art. I could name 5 artists if i tried really hard, but that's about it. I simply came on to share what I found in the mall, and was excited to do so with the Disney fanatic community. If you're an artist and you've read through this thread, I'm terribly sorry if I upset you. I thought it was gorgeous, bottom line. Even if that makes me an simpleton when it comes to art, I don't really care to be honest with you. If a picture is "pretty" to someone, then i don't care if it's an original or a copy quite frankly.

Could not have said it any better.

Glad I'm not the only one. I first heard this word in the Art of Disney at Epcot while looking at a Garmash print. Do you think I can remember how the Cast Member said it?

Apprentices, right, not factory line workers.

As for artwork having a meaning being a modern idea, yes it is. Because back when Van Gogh, Michelangelo, etc. were painting there were creating something new.

"New" as in a new image and not a re-creation, yes. And van Gogh couldn't sell a painting during his lifetime, for pretty much the same arguments people are having here: they hated it.

Their 'meaning' was about creating a new way to paint and a new way to look at painting.

That isn't true. Did they develop new techniques? Yes. But like everyone else involved in an enterprise, they discovered new ways to do it. But that was a method, not a meaning.

McDonald's may sell a Billion burgers, but nobody is calling Ronald a fine chef.

If people like Kinkade, then thats all well and good, I like a Big Mac every now and then myself. But his paintings really do nothing for me. Too simple, too 'picture like'. Very pretty, but no real substance.

I just bought a giclee of Tim Rogerson's "Cheers for 15 years" (the 2011 Food and Wine official art). That appeals to me, it has movement, it has life, it draws the eye in a constant range of motion. He is also an interesting person to talk to, and his route to his position as a Disney Fine Artist and how he met his wife and was "discovered" is pretty interesting.

I also cannot stand Thomas Kinkade's religious fanaticism and blantant hypocrisy, but that is person feelings towards the man, not to his art.

Tim's work is AMAZING! We have one of his pieces and LOVE it! We met him before he was really really known - he was doing signings at the Art of Disney Store in DTD when we just happened to fall in love with a Mickey Giclee of his- he was extremely cool and gracious. Signed the back of our purchase, and gave us his email address.

I've emailed him a few times whenever I see somethign of his that I think is cool and he always responds which I also think is pretty cool. I really need to buy a 2nd one to go with the first so I have one for both kids - but his work has gone up in price :D

Unfortunately it HAS gone up in price (well good for him, bad for us)

I talked with him at F&W for about 30 minutes. He is very engaged with his fans, and very aware and appreciative that we are his source of income and enable him to be doing what he loves to do.

He drew a sketch and signed the back of the peice I bought as well.

There are a few of his non-Disney peices that I really like, that I may somday have to pick up as well.

I love that his work is recognizable - I've been able to walk into a store and say "That's Tim Rogerson" without having to look at the signature. I'm very happy for him that his work has gone up. I would love for him to tackle a classic like Mary Poppins and add his twist. I would go broke buying it I'm sure.

And comparing Kinkade to Walt Disney is an insult, given his DUI arrest, fraud charges and public urination escapades.
I remember reading a quote from one of Walt's long-time studio assistants basically saying he was lucky he never got picked up for DUI the way he'd load up on gin before heading home for the day. Different times.

I live in Mount Laurel NJ and visit the Moorestown mall quite enough. I have visited that Kinkade store and have seen quite a few paintings. First let me state that I am not an artist or even an amatuer artist so I do not know anything about the art world. What I do know is that I see a kinkade painting and love them. Alot of his work fits the style of my home in Rancocas Woods section of Mount Laurel. I love the one that has Snow White and a few of the seven dwarfs on a land bridge through the woods. I like a lot of his painting and are planning to buy a few. Now there is only one real artist in my life that I know. Jack Yelle from Roscoe, New York. I have numerous paintings from Jack because his painting are of Covered Bridges and streams and Fishermen of the Catskills in New York State where I camp and fly fish with the DWF yearly. So we have an entire Jack Yelle collection hanging in my fly tying room. Again my point here is that I buy painting of things I like or truly hits home to our style and feelings. So a kinkade is definetly in with that mix.
