Mickey Mouse in the Fantasia segment "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," he drew the character for the first time with eyes that had pupils!
2012:
Former Disney senior executive Bob Lambert, who helped Disney move from film to
digital production, dies at his Glendale, California home at age 55. It was while working for
Disney Feature Animation, that Lambert realized a method to replace cel animation with CGI production. He chose
Steve Jobs’ Pixar to design the software and supervised the collaborative process between the companies.
Starting with Disney in 1985, Lambert served as president of technology operations and licensng and chairman of
Disney’s inter-divisional technology board, mapping technology and innovation approaches in new media with
Disney’s worldwide business units and technology partners.

Night of Joy 2012 kicks off for the first of two evening at Magic Kingdom in Walt
Disney World. This evening's entertainment line-up includes Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin,
NEEDTOBREATHE, RED, Francesca Battistelli, Brandon Heath, Royal Tailor and Disciple.

On July 24, 2008 Disney surprised San Diego Comic Con attendees with test footage from a sequel to Tron.

2012:
Amusement Today announces the winners of its prestigious 2012 Golden Ticket
Awards (presented to the "Best of the Best" in the amusement industry) at an
awards show hosted by Dollywood in Tennessee. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at Walt
Disney World’s Epcot wins Best Outdoor Night Show Production. This year’s Publisher’s Pick Awards include
Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, Calif., for its imagination and creativity in introducing a new $1.1 billion
makeover, headlined by Cars Land.

Amusement Today also announces that Disneyland is donating two vehicles from
the iconic Matterhorn Bobsled ride at Disneyland to the National Roller Coaster
Museum and Archives.

The second (and final) Night of Joy 2012 takes place at Disney World in the Magic
Kingdom. This evening's entertainment includes MercyMe, Third Day, Kutless, Chris August, LeCrae,
Yolanda Adams, Thousand Foot Krutch and Dara Maclean.

Katie, a syndicated talk show co-owned and hosted by former CBS Evening
News and Today anchor Katie Couric, debuts. It is co-produced by ABC
Entertainment and distributed by Disney-ABC Domestic Television. This premiere
telecast of Katie will be rated as the highest daytime talk show debut in the last decade.

Disneyland's only residents were Owen & Dolly Pope. They were hired in 1951 to put together some livestock for Walt's future park. They first lived in a trailer at the Disney Studio where they raised & trained horses. Three days before Disneyland opened, they moved into the park to run the
Disneyland Pony Farm.
2012:
Halloween Time officially begins at the Disneyland Resort. Park guests can take part in
such spooky events as The Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree in Frontierland, Disney’s
Happiest Haunts Guided Tour, "The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition" and The Pirates League.

Disney•Pixar Cars fans teamed up with NASCAR driver Casey Mears to wave the
green flag and kick off the Cars "Take Flight" experience during the 3-day Chase
weekend at Chicagoland Speedway (a 1.5-mile, paved oval race track located in
Joliet, Illinois). Promoting the world television premieres of the Cars Toons short films "Air Mater" and
"Moon Mater" to air this fall on Disney Channel, and the launch of a new Cars "Take Flight" product collection,
Disney has created this fun and immersive family experience for race fans to enjoy the world of Cars.

Starting this day, Disney World guests can dive "under the sea" with Ariel and
become part of her world when "The Little Mermaid" Wing at Disney’s Art of
Animation Resort officially opens. The resort’s 4th and final phase, this value property features a
larger-than-life Ariel overlooking "The Little Mermaid" courtyard and 864 standard hotel rooms.

The 14th annual Walt Disney's Hometown Toonfest takes place in
Marceline, Missouri (Walt's boyhood home).

Snow White was the first film ever to have a complete merchandising campaign ready to roll on the day the movie opened! Movie fans were able to purchase Snow White mementos from Sears and Woolworth's.
2012:
For the final time in history, a space shuttle soars into the skies over Florida and the
Walt Disney World property. Space Shuttle Endeavour makes a morning "ferry flight" mounted atop a NASA-modified 747 airliner. Taking off from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, it is destined for the California Science Center in Los Angeles for its permanent display.

The Walt Disney Studios begin production on Saving Mr. Banks, the account of Walt
Disney's twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers’ popular novel, Mary
Poppins.Tom Hanks will essay the role of the legendary Walt Disney (the first time the entrepreneur has ever been depicted in a dramatic film). Saving Mr. Banks will film entirely in the Los Angeles area, with key locations to include Disneyland in Anaheim and the Disney Studios in Burbank. Filming is scheduled to conclude around Thanksgiving 2012 with hopes of a 2013 release.

It is reported that Marvel Studios will be moving closer to the Mouse House. After setting
up shop at the Manhattan Beach Studios Media Campus (formerly known as Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios) in
2008, Marvel is getting ready to pack up and settle into new office space in Glendale, just minutes from the Walt
Disney Studios. The move, expected to be completed by spring 2013, will relocate Marvel's film team closer to the
Burbank-based Disney lot but also around some of the comicbook company's other divisions.

Disney CEO Bob Iger and Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Tom Staggs
announce a long-term creative partnership with James Cameron's Lightstorm
Entertainment and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the fantasy world of AVATAR
to life at Disney Parks. Cameron and his producing partner Jon Landau and their team at Lightstorm Entertainment will serve as creative consultants and work side-by-side with Walt Disney Imagineers on the first AVATAR-themed land in Disney's Animal Kingdom. (Construction is expected to begin by 2013.) (lets see if it happens)

22, for the care team at Disney's Animal Kingdom ... every day is
Elephant Appreciation Day. DAK is part of a breeding program
coordinated by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that focuses
on sustaining the elephant population in North America.

2012:
The Disney Magic cruise ship makes her maiden call at the Port of Galveston, Texas.
To celebrate its Disney Cruise Line's arrival in Texas, the funnel of the Disney Magic dons a cowboy hat.

In the months before his death in 1990, Jim Henson pursued
extensive discussions with The Walt Disney Company based on his
strong belief that Disney would be a perfect home for his Muppets. It
wasn't until 2004 that Disney and the Jim Henson Company came to
an agreement under which Disney acquired the Muppets and Bear in
the Big Blue House.

ABC-TV's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.The two-hour episode focuses on the Marshalls,
a military family residing in Fayetteville, North Carolina, who are committed to helping homeless female veterans. While the Extreme Makeover: Home Editionteam work their magic at the Steps-N-Stages Jubilee House in Fayetteville, the family vacations at Disney World, where they serve as the guests of honor at a military-family themed parade.
