In 1941, Walt and Lillian Disney along with sixteen colleagues spent
10 weeks visiting several Latin American nations to gather story
material for a series of short films with South American themes. The
result was Saludos Amigosand The Three Caballeros.

Disneyland holds a special celebration to remember Wally Boag and Betty Taylor, who both passed away last June. This salute to "The True Legends of the Golden Horseshoe" kicks off with song and dance from the iconic show

Marcellite Garner, from Disney's ink and paint department, was
the original voice of Minnie Mouse (starting in 1929). She
can be heard in such shorts as The Karnival Kid, Mickey's
Orphans, and Mickey's Surprise Party. (Thelma Boardman took over the voice for a short time starting in 1941.)

2011:
Disney Store kicks off D23 Expo 2011 (a 3-day event at the Anaheim
Convention Center) with a very special opening ceremony to
"unlock imagination" at its 1,500 square-foot pop up store and to
celebrate Disney Store's 25th anniversary.

2011:
A male African elephant is born at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The new calf, weighing
311 pounds, is welcomed into the elephant herd by his mother 25-year-old Vasha. This is the sixth elephant
born at DAK and the second calf for Vasha (who gave birth to a female calf, Kianga, in 2004). The baby
elephant will later be named Jabali, which means "strong as a rock" in Swahili.

The Disney Store at Florida Mall reopens after a three-month transformation to
the chain’s new Imagination Park model, which features many interactive areas
for young guests. The concept’s name comes from the store’s decor and organization. It begins with
the Unlock Imagination ceremony when a child fits an oversized key into a lock at the start of each day to
turn on the lights and music and open the store.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs releases the following statement:


"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I
would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to
serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee. As far as my successor goes, I
strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple. I believe Apple’s
brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a
new role. I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able
to work alongside you."

At this time Jobs is also the co-founder & chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios and a member of the board
of directors of The Walt Disney Company.

Hurricane Irene, which is on track to hit the New York area with gale force winds in the neighborhood of 100 miles an hour, triggers the cancellation of all shows on Broadway (for Saturday & Sunday) including Mary Poppins and The Lion King.
Disney Theatrical Productions makes the decision to cancel the performances "in the interest of its patrons' and staff'’s safety" following the announcement of the impending suspension of all public transportation in
New York City.

When New Orleans Square was added in Disneyland, Walt Disney wanted to put in a private club at which he and other dues-paying members could entertain. Unfortunately he was not able to see it completed, but the club was finished and is now a members-only club that occupies much of the second floor of New Orleans Square. It is called Club 33 for its address, 33 Rue Royale

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Hawai'i time the doors to the Maka'ala
lobby of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, open and the first guests
enter. Disney's first resort in Hawaii, it is a built-from-scratch complex designed to provide
a unique mix of mouse-inspired "imagineering" and Native Hawaiian culture. Located in the
Ko Olima resort area, 20 miles west of downtown Honolulu, Aulani sits at the southern end of Oahu’s Waianae or Leeward Coast.

It is announced that Disney Channel has ordered a third season of
its hit kid and family sitcom, Good Luck Charlie.
