We are currently booked the las week of august, 23rd to the 30th. I am thinking about moving from that week until September 13th until the 20th. Do you think it would be less crowded in September? Also does anyone have any idea when the Halloween Party ususally begins? Planning, Planning Planning, or what fun!:)

The parks could be slightly less crowded but I am pretty sure not a huge difference, your August dates look pretty good to me. We have gone late August the past two years and just booked another for this year. I think the Halloween party usually begins later September, not sure if you would see any dates by the 20th. It is so worth it to be there for that event though!! One of my favorites!

Edit, yes you will definitely be able to hit that Halloween party!! I say go for the change!!

Last year I think the 1st party was right around Sept. 11th but, I could be wrong. We went the 23-30th & attended the party on the 25th. Fun but, verrrrryyyyy crowded!

It will be less crowded and the Halloween party should start bt then. Sounds like a good choice!

I'd always heard that early Sept, right after the northern schools go back in session, is more quiet than late August; HOWEVER, we got scared away when we saw reports that free dining was actually flip flopping the crowd levels. i.e. making early Sept more crowded than late August. The reality...most of the southern schools go back into session in mid to late August...so it's a given that the crowds will begin to dip by mid August for this reason. Couple that with the number of northern fans who fear the August heat and it could mean better crowds in August.

I also pulled the info and the parties did start on the 11th of Sept last year. That was a Tuesday...so not sure if they'd go to Sept 10 (also a Tues) as the start date this year. I think it started on Tues Sept 13 back in 2011, so the 10th seems like a logical start date for 2013 considering this pattern.

We almost always travel to WDW in September and the crowds are usually manageable. I do think that free dining over the past few years has increased crowd levels in September, but it is still a good time to go. If crowd levels is your only consideration, then I don't think you will see much difference between your August dates and your proposed September dates. But if the Halloween party is something you really want to experience, then I say go for it. We love the Halloween party, which is why we typically choose September.

We are going in Mid August. According to Passporters and the UG the time frame between when you and I are going (Aug 17 to 30) is the lowest crowd level at the park. You might want to consider getting the UG or access to the webportal to review the crowd calendar and check for yourself! Well worth the 7 bucks...

We usually go in October but opted for Sept 18-25 this year. Hoping crowds are low and not too hot. It was the latest we could go and still take advantage of the bounceback offer they had when we stayed last October.

We were disappointed in the F&W Festival last year so we did not mind sacrificing that. Past years seemed like great food but this past trip everything we tried was just ridiculously salty and tasteless.

For the past 2 years we have gone around sept 17th we have used the free dining promo both times. The crowd levels have been very manageable with POTC, HM, 5 min wait or walk on. The mountains a 15-20 min wait. The longest wait times TSMM 60 min and Sorin 60 min. We have attended the Halloween party both years, the Tuesday nights are less crowded and the Boo to you parade is my most favorite of all the parades. One thing about the free dining promo is the table service restaurants are busy. :)

I've been down there both in August and September. They are both not crowded times although I think September would be even less crowded than August. I felt that September was extremely hot when I went (even hotter than the summer) but that could have just been when I was there. On the plus side, the Halloween party usually starts in the middle of September so you would be there for that!

Let's compare the crowd levels:

Aug 23, 26-30: 5 out of 10
Aug 24 - 25: 4 out of 10

Sep 13-14, 17-18, 20: 1 out of 10
Sep 15: 3 out of 10
Sep 16: 4 out of 10
Sep 19: 2 out of 10

Last year, the halloween party started Sep 11th. We go the same time in Sep and it is great! Hardly any wait times on the rides and it is still hot but tolerable. This year will be our first time ever going in Dec. Good luck!!!

We went the week prior to food and wine festival and the parks were empty. It did get crowded on Friday and Saturday. We also went to the Halloween party. I really love this time and are going again this year

Would they start it that early or would they push it to the 17th? I ask because I am going in early Sept.

One sure way of telling, when te calendar comes out (I'm thinking March) the nights of MNSSHP MK will be closing at 7 pm. Of course they usually announce the parties at a later date.

Hi there, We just went in September for 10 days. Yes, the crowds are lower b/c most people are back in school. However, we still encountered the obnoxious tour groups with flags and matching shirts (and were extraordinarily rude this year) which was unexpected. I would go in September rather then September. We went from the 13th to the 21st and attended the Halloween Party. Also, we got free dining. Of course it isn't out yet and won't be for awhile, but if you book now, and it comes available, you can change the reservation to get the free dining. As for crowd levels, most days we just walked on rides over and over and over again without much wait. We did encounter a lot of rain...its the rainy season. Not just hot outside, humid rain falls that are fast, I'm talking all out, drenching its the rainy season rain falls.

I think you've got a very good chance of it starting that early. I went back a few yrs and saw it started on Sept 4th in 2009...so the 10th doesn't seem as early when looking at the 2009 start. Of course...I can only speculate, but given past dates...it seems likely that you'll be good.
