Things not to miss and character interactions

Ok so I'm guessing there are a million threads like this, but what I want to know are the things that you would definitely not miss during a trip. I'm not on about rides, I'm on about experiences, things that aren't run of the mill, things that are awesome but what an average guest may miss. Like for me, I never knew Club Cool existed until I came on this forum. Do you know what I mean?
I want a list of awesomeness for each park that I need to keep my eye out for.
Also, I'm not a massive fan of character interactions as half the time I don't know what to say. Does anyone have some good ideas what you can talk to the characters about? I want to be able to 'talk' to both fully costumed and face characters.
Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

my daughter and I do pin trading, that always helped with Character interaction, like when my daughter meet Peter Pan he saw her Pins and asked why she only had Captain Hook to which she replied that she is trading Hook and she has her Peter Pan Pins safely away at home. When my daughter meet Mulan, Mulan refereed to the Pins as " Great Medals of Honor" and told my daughter that she must be a "Noble and Honorable Warrior" to have so many pins. With Stitch he tried to take our lanyards because we had just traded for pins for him and he wanted the pins. My daughter gave Stitch one that she had a duplicate of and Stitch gave her a kiss. Then turned around and gave her a pin of the Polynesian Resort.

With Cinderella my daughter asked where Fairy Godmother was and if Prince Charming ever washed the dishes. The answers were Fairy Godmother was helping others make wishes come true and yes Prince Charming has done dishes.

Some of the Princess have gotten a make over on their clothes, Cinderella, Bell and Aurora so you could always ask how they like the new dress...

These are really good ideas, thanks. I was wondering if it was the done thing to talk to them about their worlds. I guess you should just go with the flow. I suppose I'm more worried than I should be lol.

DAK-many people hate on Rafiki's Planet watch/ Conservation Station, but we can spend hours there. If you get there early enough, you may be able to catch a vet check/surgery. There are also a LOT of hidden Mickey's there ;)

We did Rafiki's Planet Watch last time. We didn't really enjoy it, but there were some neat characters hiding in there. I think we might give it another go though because the day we went to DAK it rained and we didn't have ponchos so we were wet and miserable. I really enjoyed the train ride over to RPW though.

These ideas are all great. Are there any more?

I'm hoping I can convince our kids to try to speak to CMs in World Showcase and learn something in their languages.

Pooh'sBuddy this is where pin trading helped my daughter who is Special Needs, she would trade and then she would ask how to say "Thank you" from the CM's there. And the CM's were soooo patient with her helping her say it right. My daughter is very shy because of her disability but pin trading allowed her to open up and talk with others because there was something she wanted a new pin :)

Hmm, initial thoughts on what not to miss other than certain rides and attractions:

MK: Opening Ceremony, Dole Whip Float; tricks to scoring high on Buzz; the Sonny Eclipse show at Cosmic Rays; PUSH the talking trash can; a ride on the monorail

EPCOT: Club Cool; Living With the Land; dinner at R&C Pub during IllumiNations for a great viewing location; the shows in the World Showcase; Pick A Pearl in Japan; Karamelle Kuche in Germany

AK: DiVine

During the holiday season: Osborne Lights at DHS; chocolate carousel at Beach Club; life size gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian

- The park opening ceremony, which starts about 5-10 minutes before the park opens. It's cute.
- The singing and dancing on Main Street n the morning (Main Street Welcome Medley)
- Love that parade-that-isn't-a-parade thing. They do it several times a dy on Main Street and the hub. I forget what it's called, but I like it.
- The 3:00 parade, whatever its name is

Epcot
- Chinese acrobats
- MoRockin
- Off Kilter

DHS
One Man's Dream

AK
- Rafiki's Planet Watch - I love to watch the surgeries. You never know when a surgery will be needed, but they do those and check-ups. Sometimes you can watch. Very cool!
- Walking Trails (I like the bats!)
- Take some time and look around. The park is beautiful and you miss it if you don't stop periodically and look! :)
-Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade. It is not the best parade ever, but its cute and has great music.
-DeVine is lovely and impressive. Don't miss that.

Hope that helps!

Is the parade that isn't a parade the one that is the Main Street Family Parade? I read on another thread about it and the times.

No. Haven't seen that. It's the one they do with the big present-looking things and the colorful guys on stilts.

For the life of me, I can't remember the name of it.

I am particularly keyed into the musical groups in Disney. My favorites are Off Kilter in the Canadian Pavilion in EPCOT, British Revolution is the UK Pavilion in EPCOT and Mulch, Sweat & Shears in Hollywood Studios. Try to catch Mulch on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. That is the best day of catching all of the regular members of the band and they are all truly amazing. Have a great time!! Marie
