Getting on the plane at Newark Airport. That's really when I kick into "vaction mode". Of course I could be flying elsewhere on vacation (or on business for that matter), but mentally that is when I clock into "vacation time" - once I am on that plane.

My children (DS9 and DD6) actually turn off electronic devices by themselves when we point this out. It means we are "hear".

I see your Appliance Direct and raise you a Family Auto Mart.

That's hilarious! Never saw that!

I like the Appliance Direct guy. I'm looking for a fridge (my freezer stuff all gets ice crystals and freezer burn) and I'm going to go there to check it out, lol.

I cannot stand that little "We want ta SEE YA in a KIA!!" girl. She was cute the first time, okay the next three or four times. Now I want to send her to her room. Forever. Enough with that child!!

(15 seconds - she's at the end. This is the less annoying version and she is a cutie, but I'm sick of her!)

Coming from Connecticut the sites, sounds and feelings of being in Orlando and the surrounding areas are always a great, exciting start to a Disney trip. So what about all of you? what things besides the parks themselves really let you know that you have finally arrived?

for us:
1. MCO all together is a great reminder
2. Disney themed billboards are always thrilling to see
3. highway exit signs for the world
4. the cheesy orlando tourist trap gift shops
5. palm trees

Great great great topic!

To me it starts the moment I'm on I-75 and have passed Macon...that means I'm not going to Savannah and am going to Florida!
Then as you get close to Valdosta you start seeing signs and billboards about Florida...
Then you start seeing the Palm Trees...
Then you start seeing billboards about Orlando...attractions, stores, etc.
Then out of the blue, you start seeing signs pointing to Exits off the Turnpike or even you see Orlando on a road sign...
Then that moment your child wakes up after a nap in the car and sees a billboard or something and their eyes light up, they smile big and your heart fills up with the knowledge that, yes it costs a lot of money, but it's worth it.
Then as you get really close, everything is Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, etc.
And then, you exit off and you drive through the gates welcoming you to Disney World and at least in my family, the adults get turned into kids and all worries stay behind those gates...

Seeing all the cheesy gift shops on International drive(?), There's one with a giant wizard and a sports shop with an american football helmet as an entrance that stick out in memory. Billboards are another one! and the heat! Don't get heat like that in Reading, UK!

As a Local Orlando Floridian of near 19years, basically my entire life, I really enjoy our Downtown Skyline. That to me mixed with the MK and Contemporary Resort make me feel at home.
