Trip Report There's Something About Mary...and it's called DRAMA!

I think it's time to get this thing started...hoping it will help my mood and sanity levels. For those that missed the PTR (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/lawdy-lawdy-look-whos-turning-40-ptr.867181/) - the early pages should help you catch up on the bulk of the big details, and for those that missed our problems from day 1 of our trip (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/how-not-to-start-your-wdw-vacay.873853/ )...well, it kind of speaks for itself.:( I am going to try and keep this as upbeat as possible, but we have a very long road ahead to fix things...so, please bear with me as I vent in between some of the magic. :)

September 18th

I left work early on the 18th so I could pick up the girls at school and have them with us when we took our dog to get boarded. This is our Daisy Doggy...
074.JPG

What's really funny, the pic above was taken with Sammie's Fisher Price plastic kiddie camera!

After getting the dog situated at boarding, we went home, had some dinner, and the heavy duty packing started. I'd actually started packing my things on the 17th, but now it was time to really focus on the girls. I let them sleep in the guest bedroom that night so I could pack all of their stuff without keeping them up...i.e. so I could pack all of the surprise outfits without spoiling anything.;) It was A TON of packing, but I finished up around 1am. I had thought about setting up the outfits and bags in the guest room for the reveal, but Sammie got up to use the bathroom right around that time- soooooo, I decided to wait until just before the big reveal.

September 19

I guess I got close to 4.5 hours of sleep (good for the night before a travel day)...and at 6am, it was finally time to set up and reveal the big secret. I got everything set up and then DH came in to help me. The video I took is pretty awful and sleepy girls don't make for really good surprises, but this is the vid I took and I swear...they were REALLY happy.

You can all now probably appreciate what it's like getting these two up for school each morning.

Actually, the girls were super quick to get dressed once it really sunk in what was going on. They were even good with posing for pictures before hitting the road...
9924749463_db7fbda884.jpg

We loaded up my SUV and hit the road...sadly, we wouldn't get far. The accident took place about 2.5 miles from our house. I really don't want to rehash all of the scary details, but when we realized we'd all be able to walk away from this horror - we had to decide if we'd continue with this WDW trip. While the girls' initial screams and cries were from the accident itself, they morphed into cries that they wouldn't get to see their grandma and grandpa. We usually try and visit every 3 months, but we pushed it a bit longer b/c of this trip. It was for this reason DH and I decided to push forward with the trip even if the odds weren't in our favor. I guess I just figured getting everyone to "the most magical place on earth" could be therapeutic. Don't get me wrong...I love that the EMTs and lead sheriff on the scene were super lovey with the girls :inlove: - they really needed something super positive...so, Disney it was!

So, after I took care of the most important initial phone calls, I got Southwest on the line (at the scene of the wreck) and started working with them to rebook the outbound flight. We were yelling over ambulance sirens and traffic, but after about 20 min, we were rebooked from our 9:15am departure to a 3:55pm departure. They also said DH could ask for a blue card for pre-board (we were now in group C after paying to be in group A on the original flight)...while it's gotten better, he had some leg pain that day and was limping from the aches. The timing also worked well since it gave me time to go to the collision center, talk to the various insurance companies, etc. My wonderful MIL was also kind enough to pick up DH and the girls from the scene. This enabled him to get his car and she was able to love on the girls for a while until we were ready to regroup and get travel plans rolling again.

While our flight out of Houston was delayed close to 3 hours due to weather and mechanical issues (not helping Kendall, who was now terrified that the plane would crash), but we got off the ground a little after 6pm and we were on our way...

9924756273_281dbbc4e9.jpg

Sammie sat with DH on the way to FL-- with Pooh, of course...
9924657494_bc33e6d210.jpg

I had Kendall...
9924579545_9f192d5e78.jpg

...and we spent the entire flight doing this big word search on her tablet.

9924651404_e1738fda8b.jpg

We flew into terminal A and DME is in terminal B. It was after the girls' bed time, so we opted to just get our baggage. Soooooo, we went down to terminal A baggage and then lugged it over to DME in terminal B. Thankfully, Kendall has overcome her fear of escalators, so minus losing her shoe for a while on one of them  we were in good shape.

I think the CMs manning the DME entrance could read all of the stress and worry on my face, because they promised me pixie dust and magic from that point on. :D We had our Magic Bands on at this point, but I had my vouchers out so in the interest of time and sanity, they just used those. They directed us to the line for AKL and while we were let on the bus right away...we were so late that the bus was accommodating a number of resorts from various lines. Still...Kendall and I wound up with this prime spot!

9924661334_a5f37400c7.jpg

I swear, I got choked up when I looked up and saw the screen...like that "we're really on our way" moment.

9924619886_389c274cb7.jpg

It took a while for them to load up the bus since they were waiting on people to come in from all of these late or delayed flights, but it wasn't long before we were off.

After horsey time, we were still out of our Peter Pan window, so we had a decision. Considering Princess Fairytale Hall had just opened a couple of days ago (at this point), I wanted to see it when it was all sparkly and new…and I got no fights from the girls. My parents on the other hand wanted nothing to do with this. No idea what they decided to do…but our only choice “Snow White & Rapunzel OR Cinderella and Aurora.” Well, we’ve never met Rapunzel…Sammie is quite fond of her, and Kendall was on a total Snow White kick….sooooooo, you can probably guess which line we chose. It was a slightly longer wait than the other line (25 vs 20 min), but we decided to take our chances. I just snapped all kinds of pics as we waited…including “trashy Sammie.”

Yeah- back to a light phase for a bit.

See, I told you- trashy Sammie...

I gotta say, the glass slipper is a REALLY nice touch.
10322706856_d95124be66_z.jpg

The wait also wasn’t 25 min…maybe…MAYBE…15 min at best. First up was Rapunzel. She was very interested in the girls’ shoes and how they’d somehow gotten all of these lanterns set in their shoes.
10322654235_7fd9cd8171_z.jpg

She was absolutely wonderful with the kids…probably one of the longest most fun meet and greets we’ve ever had.

Now, for those of you who read my 2011 trip report, we had some issues with Sammie and hand placement when posing with female face characters. She did so well on the 2012 trip that I neglected to coach her before this trip. Yeah…a bit of a mistake…
10322691633_d2356bb878_z.jpg

I tried to coach her from the “sidelines” without being vulgar or overly obvious…instead, I made Rapunzel start to crack up.

10322482604_51e038f76a_z.jpg

In the end...we got it all corrected.

Up next...Snow White, Mermaids, and Cranky Hungry People.

Loving your trip report so far! It has really gotten me excited for our trip again. (I was bummed for awhile when I found out my favorite ride- Splash Mountain- will be closed when we are there in February.) The pics of the girls twirling are so cute and all of their outfits are adorable. Can't wait to read more. :)

I'm sorry Splash will be closed. Sadly, we've dealt with fave ride closures on previous trips, but hopefully there are enough other things to keep you happy and entertained. With the skirts- I figure if they're going to wear them...might as well have fun with them :)
PM me if you have questions. I work in insurance. I can't speak to your carriers, and I certainly cannot give you legal advice, but I can tell you what is possibly going on in the back end that you may not be aware of.

Though, if you were just venting to vent, I completely get that. Insurance stinks!

Much of it's just venting as I'm beyond frustrated. I'm about to go to bed, but I'll PM you either tomorrow or some point over the weekend as some insight might help. I work in the financial industry and am used to our standard red tape and background issues that can frustrate clients, but this is foreign territory. I also totally understand on the legal...that's a whole different ball game. I appreciate it. :)

Ugh Sandy, I am so sorry you have to deal with all of this nonsense with the insurance company!!! Glad the chiro is helping. I started going to mine earlier this year for my sciatica and BIG difference! After a few more appointments, you will feel a big difference. The girls are just TOO precious!! I can't wait to go back to Crystal Palace! I havent been there in close to 10 years and made ressies for next month. Sigh..... breakfast lasagna and puffed french toast .... right up my alley!! LOL

Thanks Deb. Definitely not an ideal situation, but I keep reminding myself that as awful as all of this is...it could have been so much worse. I don't know if I've developed a higher pain tolerance since having kids or if my issues just aren't as bad as DH's, but my pain hasn't been as bad since we started treatments. In fact, all of the random shooting pains I was getting seem to have ceased...at least for the time being. I'm glad your treatments are helping as well. :) Crystal Palace has become one of our must do TS meals each trip. Some of it is Sammie's Pooh obsession, but we've never had a bad experience there- so that helps. While it's totally sinful, that breakfast lasagna is just awesome!!!

You're cracking me up! Beer goggles and shots...hand placements (our 7 yr old son does the same, innocently).

Seriously- I think I get drunk with excitement over some of my favorite attractions and delude myself into thinking I'm taking great pictures. So, maybe the better analogy would be like thinking I'm a really good dancer after having several drinks :) I'm sure the princesses get it all day at M&Gs and brush it off when it's children who mean nothing by it. So, it just gets added to my collection of awkward M&G photos.

Howdy folks...tonight I'm going to spare you the detailed drama vent. It's not that there's no drama to report...it's just been such a difficult day for both sides of this. The bad news, it got heated enough that I had to excuse myself from my desk at work so I could raise my voice a bit without disturbing everyone (who am I kidding, they all kept listening). The good news, I think Monday is the day where things will finally start getting done with moving me towards an auto settlement. I also made some progress with my medical insurance on those claims. The funny thing (in a divine intervention or just a crazy coincidence sort of way)...as I was driving to the chiro, I was wondering if I was making the right choice on the auto- wishing there was some way for me to know I was doing the right thing. As I was thinking this, the rainy dreary skies started to clear in front of me and a massive brilliant double rainbow appeared. I think I've also solved the vehicle selection dilemma, but I'm not quite ready to talk about all of it.

OK, so back to September 22nd...

Up next…Snow White…I think the book gave it away.

She also was curious about the girls’ shoes, but this time the potential cause was witchcraft. Not such a bad angle though, since it allowed us to bring up our encounter with her step-mom at MNSSHP. She had some very PC yet funny comments on that…now if only I could remember what they were. All in all, another really great M&G…and Kendall’s now a pretty solid Snow White fan.

10322442666_c32e9cc7e9_z.jpg

I think I have about 15 pictures like this...they're all comparing shoes. I can't fault that.

And she and Sammie were deep in conversation for a while.

10322382846_8859b87156_z.jpg

It took over 20 pics, but they're finally looking sort of in my general direction. And I'm guessing Snow observed Rapunzel, because this was kept as a standing M&G>

10322275755_07a2868d32_z.jpg

And now we're saying our good-byes.

10322272526_288c33cb30_z.jpg

The girls weren't complaining...seriously, this was one of our longest most in depth M&G experiences ever.

Sammie is clearly very happy about this meeting!
10322265026_92c3200436_z.jpg

All in all, it's a nice M&G. I don't know if it was worth losing the ride, but considering how happy it made my girls, how well themed it was, and just how in depth the M&Gs were...it does hold some value to us as far as worthwhile time spent in MK. I'm also kicking myself because I am now realizing that I never took pics of the Cinderella book ends...yeah- you can see them even if you don't go to the Cindy side.

It was about Peter Pan time, so time to head over and meet up with my parents. Still can’t remember what they did, but we saw a CM with a Pinocchio marionette at Pinocchio’s Villagehaus on our way over.
10322225694_65a638425a_z.jpg

And now it’s time for Peter Pan…the shortest ride ever…still, I love it.

10322239255_0266bf9f40_z.jpg

I think I’ve posted it on here a number of times, but I’d love to get stuck on here over London. I also did something I haven’t done since 2010…started to cry as we flew over Big Ben. We rode in 2's (grandma and grandpa each got one of the girls and I was with DH)…so I’m pretty happy none of my crying was mocked...and he would.

10322372053_7fc635b948.jpg

He is kind of scary this way...crazy eyes!

Sammie had been begging for the Little Mermaid, so it was time to head into FLE. At least everyone was good with doing this.

10322206706_176262bd40_z.jpg

It makes me feel better taking pics of our walk to the attraction when I just happen to catch people like this taking a photo of the ground. Hey, I'm good with it...I take pics of stuff like this too...just makes you feel better when you're not the only one.

10322199976_94b0686dcd_z.jpg

OR...maybe he's just trying to fix his camera. At least the lady to his right looks like she's found the rest of her group. Good for her! LOL

And we're still walking...

Last time we rode this, CMs were rushing us through the queue, so I never got to play with the crabs or get any pictures. I was REALLY hoping to get that chance, but DH was worried about us missing our lunch plans, so I was again denied any real crab time. This right here…the best I could get of a crab as I was being dragged off.

10322141644_0915a38284_z.jpg

Hint Hint Santa...I'd like a crab plush or figurine. I don't know if they exist, but if they don't they should. Either way- one should be mine!

Also sad that Scuttle wasn’t working properly.

The kids again had no desire to ride with us, so I got ride with DH.I guess it could have been romantic if I wasn’t a picture taking crazy lady. So, you're in for it...the good and the bad.

So, let's start with lighting, because I don't like that one bit.

Sorry, I actually really do love the movie. This was Kendall's first princess movie and first fave princess. It all hit somewhere between 18-24mos and everything was Ariel. I think I watched the movie at least twice a day to keep the peace. She was also Sammie's first fave and was her fave for quite some time.

Took a pic of Prince Eric’s new healthy spot on the way out of the ride…

10321979403_caec342f74_z.jpg

OK...I really thought I'd uploaded a few more pics for this day, but I guess I was wrong. So, I'm going to have to do another few uploads to get everything up for the next installments. Sooooo, you're going to have to wait a little bit longer on "Cranky Hungry People" and other WDW fun. Part of the problem is DH. He plays an online game and my uploads compromise his play quality. Still- I expect to have more over the weekend. Thanks for reading :)

I was enjoying your trip report, and noticed that you had taken a picture of my whole gang (minus my husband, he had to use the restroom) while we waited for him in front of the Pooh ride :) I could hardly believe it. We were so excited to be back at Disney, it was the first trip for my sister and her family. Hope you and your family are recovering from your accident. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

WOW! I had something like this happen in my previous TR. Just amazing that out of the thousands and thousands of people in the parks each day...you guys happen to be in one of my pics. Funny how these things happen. Thanks- we're working towards resolution and recovery. Not exactly my ideal way to start a trip, but thankful we walked away from this. Thanks for reading :)

OK- so it's the weekend and there's next to no progress on accident stuff over the weekend, so no venting. It's kind of nice to have 2 days of not having to fight. So, I'm going to sit here giving you trip report details while drinking pineapple/orange/banana juice with coconut and rum.

Sept 22nd continued...

What to do next? We had a FP+ for BOG at noon but it was still a good 20 min before that (see, I could have stopped to photograph the crabs!), still- I decided to pop by first to make sure we were in the system.

10362900683_08416b8219_z.jpg

The line was already quite long and stretched well beyond the bridge. There was a much smaller line at the check in area that we used last November to check in for dinner. There were some women (and a girl- no more than 9) standing there in what ‘could have’ been a line, so I asked if they were in the line to check in for fastpasses. Their response to this, “Ummmmmmm, this is a restaurant – not a ride. There are no fastpasses.” The little girl standing with them even mimicked the mom and said “yea- it’s a restaurant….there are no fastpasses!” I was annoyed, but I just said something about being part of testing and just moved on to the check in booth. All was good…we just had to come back at noon and they’d check us in.

My parents had no desire to wait in that line to try and meet up with us, but they came along with us while we tried to burn some time. We thought about Ariel’s Grotto, but the wait was just too long and clearly, my parents weren’t interested in M&Gs.

10362883103_04d6fdfcc3_z.jpg

Took a few mine train area pics. I’m excited to see how this turns out as I can see a lot of potential in the concept.

10362692986_e0ea374681_z.jpg

10362680224_bf90a6fd82_z.jpg

We walked back towards the Barnstormer/Goofini, but it was broken down and Dumbo’s wait was too long.

We decided to just take our time heading back…and good thing we did because we came across this guy along the way. What’s funny…my dad said he was the same juggler outside at Boardwalk the previous night. Regardless, it was entertaining, the kids were in awe, and got a couple of good laughs.

My parents went off and did their own thing. I know they had considered meeting up with my brother and his fam. I they had gone to Animal Kingdom, but they may have all met up at Epcot for the afternoon…I honestly don’t know…although, I did point them towards CHH if they wanted a decent CS meal. So, in any event, we made our way back to BOG.

We were still pretty early and they are very strict about being in your time window…so, we took a seat and just watched the line. The girls also felt the part on the ground below could be a hidden Mickey since you could technically get a head and ears out of it.

As much as the girls wanted to try lunch here (and there were thrilled to find out I’d managed to score us a slot for lunch), after having dinner there back in Nov 2012…I wanted to see if lunch was really worth such a wait.

Finally, the clock struck 12 and it was time. We walked right up to the check in booth, the same CM who helped me before checked me in, and she told me to walk down the bridge to meet up with the next CM (gave me his name). Soooo, we walked right by that long line, were let right in, said CM in the entry way confirmed our order (I pre-ordered our food), scanned my Magic Bands to pay, and told me to find a seat anywhere + keep the receipt handy. EFFORTLESS! Honestly, FP+ at BOG gets an A+ from me. I don’t feel it’s necessary at any other QS, but for this location it’s pure genius.

We sat in the ballroom when we ate here last year, so Kendall asked that we try for the West Wing. I warned her that it may be tough to get a table, but she insisted we check…and wouldn’t ya know it, there was a table.

10362392973_805fed5c17_z.jpg

I only ordered 2 drinks- figuring we could share, but with the way they work the cups here and DH’s lack of info on what exactly I ordered, he came back with 4 drinks. Our food also arrived super fast. We had the carved chicken sandwich and the croque monsieur. The croquet was definitely the more popular of the two for us, but both were very good.

I had debated about ordering dessert or even some French onion soup, but this was plenty considering the breakfast we’d had at Crystal Palace. I know some people would have skipped it altogether, but the snackish lunch was perfect.

We just had one problem this meal…Sammie was terrified. She’s asked that we never sit in the West Wing again. I let her play Angry Birds to help distract her.

I at least got to take some more pics during this time.

The early mornings, fast pace and events of the last few days were starting to catch up with us. We were feeling tired, but it was time to get up and push for our goal of the day…make it to Animal Kingdom so that Kendall could experience Everest for the first time and Sammie could take on Dinosaur – her first time as well. So, we made our way out of BOG.

Sam said we should eat in this room next time...

It had gotten hot enough I guess that they’d started handing out umbrellas to people waiting in line for lunch. They were also offering water to those in line. Crazy line!

Yeah- I just don't think we'd wait in that line...glad we didn't have to.

Coming up...we hop to DAK.

Love the updates! Three times in a row for BTMRr is awesomeness! I also enjoy IASW - not that I would want to do that 3X in a row but I don't get all the hate. Crackin' up at the beer goggle comments because I can relate. u did get some great shot in there and in Little mermaid. You would love IASW at Disneyland!

I was pretty jealous that I missed out on all of those Big Thunder rides. Aside from really liking Mary Blair's art and enjoying Alice Davis' costume design, I think it's the details in IASW that really appeal to me. It's a big factor in me wanting to go to Disneyland...from the façade to the Disney characters in IASW fashion incorporated into their respective countries = WIN! Also much happier with what I got in Little Mermaid this time. Thanks :)

Alright...we have a later game today, so that means I can push back my Sunday morning grocery trip = more TR posts before the Fox Sunday show!

Sept 22 continued...

Time to make our way out of MK.

And while I'm not a big fan of the crane, I do love what it's doing. This photo is proof that I saw the Dreamlights this year. Sure...just like Osborne Lights, they're not lit, but it's a sign of festive times to come.

Still a bit sad we wouldn't be doing CRT.

We were walking pretty quickly at this point, so lots of blurs, but also a good representation of what it's like to bolt out of MK in the middle of the day.

Looks like we’re heading out during Move It Shake It…had to change our walking plan a tad…

I remember this collective sigh seeing this crowd and trying to figure out the best speedy way to make it through it all...

It was at this point that I realized I hadn’t really thought about how we should get to Animal Kingdom. Take a monorail to the TTC?
10361875693_3da8c43511_z.jpg

Nope- decided to walk to the Contemporary and catch a bus. Not sure if this was the best plan, but it’s the best that I had at that moment. So, we got to take the short walk over to the Contemporary.

10361671314_7490acab22.jpg

yeah- someone was also done with the pettiskirt. They look so darn cute, but I know these kids and know they'd be miserable if I kept them in them all day...so while I'm thankful they'll still wear them, I have to be realistic and pack alternative attire each day. Hey, it's not like a tiny pair of denim shorts takes up a lot of space. Although, the shoe change is a different story. Oh well.

10361665764_42e55717a7.jpg

I do love how you follow the monorail track and constantly have them passing overhead. It just feels soooooo Disney.

10361659226_693eff453a.jpg

Everyone took a seat to wait for the bus.
10361838453_9bb5479582_z.jpg

Hey- at least Kendall still has her skirt...

10361631675_9e3946b36c_z.jpg

It didn’t take long for the bus to arrive...always have had stellar bus service with the Contemporary. The back of the bus has also become a fave of the girls.

10361630344_026c6b6dc7_z.jpg

Sammie may look wide awake in that pic above, but it wasn’t long before she was zonked out. The bus took forever since we also stopped at Blizzard Beach, but I think it helped Sammie to have this downtime.

10361619914_1ef0a05465_z.jpg

Looks like we’re here, so she’s going to have to wake up pretty soon.

Sam was still pretty foggy, but she perked up once she realized we were there. So, we made our way to the entrance.

All caught up again!! Love the photos!!! The girls are so cute!!

Thanks! I go a little crazy with the camera :D

So many pics since my last comment. They're great as always. Pretty interesting that the back of the bus is their preferred spots. Can't wait to see and hear about the adventures in the AK.

Lots and lots of pics. DH is quite happy that I'm finally done uploading. They'd literally have us push as far back as possible on every bus we boarded. I'm going to add some AK related updates in just a little bit. :)

Well, not really a vent tonight...just some nervous energy. I'm hoping tomorrow is my last of the real hurdles with the auto. I'm confident about everything but the rental, but hopeful my insurance co agent will be able to fight that bulk of the battle for me. If all goes well, I may even get to car shop within the next week to week or two. It's a tad early for it, but I've formed a short list of vehicles to look at.

On a funny side note before starting back up...I realized today that I never looked at our Photopass pics. I know lots of people rave about Photopass+, but we are definitely not Disney's target market for these. We had a whopping 9 Photopass pics...and they accounted for only 2 picture situations.

OK, back to Sept 22nd...

We made our way into AK...
We had band issues here too and needed more help from CMs to get in, but it still was all worked out very quickly and I was back to snapping away pics.

We also had a big problem…how should we split up? Sammie and Kendall both wanted me. I really had no desire to ride Dinosaur and I’d been coaching Kendall on all things Everest, so I managed to convince Sammie to go with DH. What’s funny, DH decided to turn off from us thinking they’d get to Dinosaur faster. I told him it wouldn’t do any good, but he wanted to try it. Yeah…they came out behind us at some point. Oh well, I still took lots of pics along the way.

10361527364_7b81862396_z.jpg

I think we're getting close...

10361520856_91a726a34d_z.jpg

Riding standby was our only choice and I was really worried that our wait time would be significantly longer than that for Dinosaur. Mind you, AK almost always feels a bit overcrowded to me, but it felt crowded = more worry. We arrived and saw there was a 35 min wait, so I texted DH to let him know. He said Dinosaur was only 20.

10361501884_61720e5574_z.jpg

Kendall was also kind of psyched that the CM’s wanted to measure her. They praised her for being “well above” the 44” mark and she was all smiles. We also talked about birthday plans and how the one CM would be staying at AKL soon for her birthday trip. I’m the only one in our group that’s ridden Everest before and I’ve only done FP, so this was my first time seeing the full queue. So, I took LOTS of pics.
