Haunted Mansion Refurbishment - (8/16/07) I’m not really sure how they are going to handle it but apparently there are plans afoot to install an enclosure for live bats just outside the Mansion in the queue area. I’ve been told that it might not even be installed until after the Haunted Mansion reopens due to issues in obtaining the Bats themselves from Nebraska, so you may not see any sign of it for some time. Lets just the hope they have a plan to deal with the smell of the guano.

Odd and I don't know why they would add them. AK has them but that's because it's Animal Kingdom. Anything's possible I guess but I won't hold my breath.

I think Lance got this wrong...Disney has already stated that they have added bats (of the animatronic type) to the stretching rooms. The idea of a bat "enclosure" makes no sense outside of Animal Kingdom.

I say they stick with AAs. No one ever complains about them and some people might even think they're real. :lookaroun

Here's some lovely information concerning bat droppings.

What is histoplasmosis and what causes it?

Histoplasmosis is an infectious disease of the lungs caused by a fungus called Histoplasma capsulatum. The infection sometimes can spread to other parts of the body.

This Histoplasma organism thrives in moderate temperatures and moist environments. Droppings from chickens, pigeons, starlings, blackbirds, and bats support its growth. Birds are not infected with it because of their high body temperatures, but they do carry it on their feathers.
Bats can be infected because they have a lower body temperature than birds and can excrete the organism in their droppings.

Why would a "vacant" mansion have a bat enclosure?...and...who feeds the bats if the property is "vacant?"

Makes no sense to me.

A bat cage next to the mansion would be a little odd and out of place looking. Well, this rumor's from screamscape so take it with a grain of salt!
