Themed lands and areas

There is a difference between simply understanding that theme, and taking it that to that emotional, nostalgic level. Main Street accomplishes that, and Dinoland doesn't. Why?

Probably because Walt made Disneyland as a specific reaction to those tourist traps and the shady amusement areas of the day. The only way Dinoland works if it's specifically viewed as being ironic.

I like Future World at night and World Showcase during the day, Asia in AK , Fantasyland at night, Adventureland at night, HS at night, and I like to look at the castle from the wishing well at night and by Sleepy Hollow at night.

If you think of Main Street at MK as a slice of Americana from a specific time and place, then so is Dinoland. It's part of those old road trips Americans took, and the nostalgia of those tourist traps and cheap attractions, as idealized as Main Street USA.

I understand that everyone on these boards already gets that, but with Main Street USA, the average guests moves past when they think, and accesses their emotions and nostalgia for the illusion that doesn't really exist.

I wonder. . . Is this an example of the theme itself being poorly executed or is there a general lack of feeling about this aspect of Americana, and the theme should never have been attempted?

If you know the back story of Chester and Hester's you find that the theming is as good and as accurate as any otherplace in the parks.

The problem probably is that most WDW guests have grown up seeing pictures of Main Street and are familiar with its story. Most guests, however have no knowledge of road trips from the thirties, forties and even the fifties when such places existed. They have grown up riding on the interstate system which effectively bypassed
and put the cheap attractions out of business, It's hard to be nostolgic about something you know nothing about.
