Oh man, I love me some fried okra

I'm pretty fond of Shiner Bock, too, but have never seen the other two Shiners. Maybe I gotta get back down to Texas...


I've never seen a three bean salad without green beans (and TBH I normally skip it), but would definitely try a cannellini-kidney-chickpea version...thanks for the recipe!

For Christmas this year two different people gave me a Shiner variety box, it had 12 different types of Shiner in it. Some are a miss for me because they are dark and flavored, like there was a S'mores one, but overall good beer! Maybe someplace in your area is selling it.

Too funny, regarding the fried okra, considering the food pic I just posted earlier…!!!!!
Carolyn called me last night on her way home from picking Matt up from work, and asked what I wanted from Dickey’s. I originally wanted a sliced smoked brisket sandwich, but they were all outta’ brisket for the day. So then I decided on the smoked pork ribs, and the okra was already gonna’ happen either way…!!!

My Mom’s hometown is Shiner, Texas…!!!
All Shiner beer is still brewed there at the Spoetzl Brewery, est. 1909. I remember when the only beer they brewed there was Shiner Premium, now I can’t even keep up with all the various beers and ales.
Also, does anyone else here remember these type of bottles from back in the day…?!!!



As far as the three bean salad recipe goes, you’re very welcome, but, as I posted earlier, I just grabbed it off the internet because the dressing sounded right…!!!
Three bean salad is one of those dishes where I’m definitely goin’ back for seconds…!!!!!

Yep, they brew so many varieties now that there’s no way I’ve tried nearly all of them. But, yes, of the ones I have tried, there are ones I much prefer to others.
But, ultimately, this beer/ale guy will try all of it, and I have yet to meet any I couldn’t stomach or spat out…!!!!!

From a road trip to Houston to visit MIL, BIL and niece, in May of 2019, a coupla’ years before MIL moved in with us in Austin…!!!

This place has amazing BBQ, so we stopped for breakfast on the way to Houston, and then again for dinner on the way back (we had lunch meat sandwiches for lunch at their home in Houston).
Southside has many varieties of amazing BBQ and sides, of course, but I can never resist their scrumptious smoked brisket sandwiches…!!!!!

Yea, I’m a big okra fan, obviously, as well…fried okra, okra gumbo, pickled okra, etc.
I’ve been known to eat a whole jar of pickled okra in one sitting…!!!!!

How they work the cooking/smoking. They burn the mesquite wood, then the coals drop to the ground below, which are then scooped up with a shovel and fed into the smoker…!!!
