The Yeti & Stuntshow update

I wasn't able to find any specifics in any other threads that say what I have found out so here it is. The first thing I have found out about the Yeti is that is is being made in the Imagineering facility in California and will then be shipped across the country and assembled. Another thing I have found out about it is that it is not going to just be a large animatronic, but a huge one. I mean that in some sections of the ride when it comes at you it's hand will actuall entirerly engulfe the ride vehicle. It will be the largest animatroic Disney has made to date. The entire ride is actually the most advanced and complex ride, even more than M:S, that Disney has ever made. the update about the stuntshow. When you are on the backlot tour and you see those cars with the wheel in the back windows. Those are only there for when the drivers are practicing(the two wheeling), they will never be there during the show. The hero car has also receltly arived and the stuntrivers have finally maoved into the stage to practice on set and no longer in the parking lot. Recently with the major jump that goes towards the audience, they tested it in the stadium the other day. There was a problem with the rig for the jump and there was an accident. The accident didn't hurt the stage or the driver, there was slight damadge to the car. There was no driver error, but the rig had some malfuction that casued it so they are scrambling to figure out what happened and fix it so they can start actually practicing this crucial jump. One other thing is that large paved area ouside of the stage (Not the one in front but kinda behind and to the left if you are looking straight at the front of the stage). This is going to be the practice area for all the drivers and stuntmen when the show is not going on and the backlot tour is going through the stage. Just some info I have found out from a few of my very reliable sources.

By the look at the way the rebar on the mountain is already almost completed, how would they get this giant figure into it? You'd think that it would almost have to be in there already. If it is as big as they say it's going to be, there must be some sort of giant openning somewhere for them to put it in the mountain later.

Makes me wonder how they installed the sets in Spaceship Earth. . .

More Carnotaur than Kong.

As for getting it in there...c'mon it's not THAT big. There is plenty of access to the bowels of the mountain...so to speak.

One of lifes little mysteries that! I`d love to see some pictures of this operation - nothing could be bigger than the ascent leg (for most of the items) or the descent leg... ship in a bottle!

Happy New Year.

Yeti size

I directly asked the question about size of the Yeti to a show designer Imagineer last Sept. when I did Dine with. He actually is responsible for the conversion of New York Street into Big Cities Streets but one of his Imagineer buddies in Glendale is on the Mt. Everest team and worked on the Yeti character. He said they "borrowed" a lot of organic part features of other animals, (claws, teeth, nose), from nature to come up with the design. According to him the final height would fall between 18 to 20 feet tall. The scary factor for the Yeti at the time was pretty high.

That would make it smaller than the dragon in Fantastmic! but I would think the Yeti would be a true animatronic while the dragon is more of a puppet.

I think we dined with the same Imagineer! I just went looking for the menu with his name on it, but couldn't find it. He was very involved with the Big City Street conversion--said something to the effect of going to work in Chicago one day, and San Francisco the next. He said the same thing about the Yeti being very organic, with the face (especially the nose) being sort of like a primate (if I remember correctly). He didn't say anything about the height that I could remember, though.

I heard some liken the Yeti to the lava creature in JITSOTE in DTS. If that is true then that would be great. I saw a video of the ride and the AA was incredibly fluided in movement. Can't wait to see it.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the name of the Imagineer I dined with. Oh well, he probably knew the one you dined with.
