If that is the case, it was the slowest "knee jerk" that ever existed. They have been planning this probably before Uni started planning HP. It might be a mistake or it might not, time will tell. But, it was hardly an impulse move. DAK needed something and this was the closest that they could do to match the location in any degree. Since none of us have actually seen the final result, I, for one, am going to withhold my opinion until I see what we get.

In true Disney fashion, it's taking them too long to get it rolling, but I just meant they felt like a response to Potter was needed. I disagree that it wasn't at least in part an impulse move. Potter opened the summer before and Disney needed some buzz to get fans excited about what they thought was a hugely successful franchise in Avatar. AK needed something as I said, but I don't think Disney would make it "Avatarland" if they could go back.

Obviously the loss of some rides like World of Motion, AE for Stitch, Mr Toad.

But I'd say for me is the Harry Potter situation/lack of new rides the past few years. I used to spend my entire trip at Disney with a day at most at Universal. Recently it's becoming difficult to decide how to spend the week in Orlando. It's hard to justify spending over a $100 for a park like HS when my AP at Universal was $200.

Disney needs new rides and parks.... That is the bottom line... Not much to do at AK and MGM.... MK is for kids... Epcot needs more.... Disney has become stale and needs a new park and 10 good rides...

I agree with the need for new rides/attractions, but I'm not sure about needing a new park. Studios and Epcot need to get more love (and money) before a new park is built, IMO. Otherwise, you are just stretching things thinner than they already are.

Not having enough benches in the parks.

OHHHH yeah. That's been my complaint for some time. One of the reasons I like HS is that it does have benches here and there where you can rest for a bit and watch the world go by. Walt once said "There will never be sore feet in Disneyland." He'd have kittens if he could see all the footsore guests at WDW.

Don't get me wrong. I would LOVE a new park, especially if they used the resources to launch a new park while adding new attractions to existing parks.

I still think the Dark Kingdoms park rumor (based on villains) was such a cool idea. You could even salvage the Beastly Kingdoms idea and move it into that park, featuring dragon-themed roller coasters and whatnot.

In this one, they get a pass. Doing any kind of work with a licensed property involves an approval process with the IP owner, which can often be lengthy. When you combine that with the fact that James Cameron is something of a perfectionist who takes his darn sweet time on something he feels strongly about (it was 13 years between Titanic and Avatar), then you can't really pin this one on Disney.

I get that, but it's another reason I believe Disney made the wrong choice because the acted too quickly to respond to Potter. I think working with Cameron will prove to be a beating and I'm sure they've already realized that. Speed to market is important and it's a reason I believe they should have gone another route.

Haste makes waste. Dreamworks got Antz out before A Bug's Life, and that's not exactly a film that's resonated throughout the years.

No doubt. I agree with you, but feel Disney needs a significant upgrade to AK and other parks, even if this is on the Horizon. It's just not enough and 2017 feels like forever. Disney could move faster, but they don't have to because they are still dominating. Universal has delivered quality is a much quicker fashion, but still have poor content in my mind.

I think if Disney had bought rights to HP, it would have been housed in EPCOT in England. The entrance would be where the bathrooms are, the courtyard between the shops would be a good place to have the "Respect the spell limits" entrance. We'd get a Potter, Weasley, and Grainger M&G, a Dumbledore/Snape show where the Brit Beat stage is now, the 4-D dark ride-probably replacing Captain EO and have to extend behind the Beach Resort. A few shops would change to fit the criteria. Canada would suffer. The International Gateway would get more traffic. No Monsters University playground, that space used for Potter as well.

The place, the square footage to house the vision/route that Uni has gone, would be Hollywood Studios. Back Lot and Lights, Motor, Action would be plenty of space and fast turn around. Parents would have Star Wars (expanded to Indiana Jones) and the kids would have Potter. Who am I kidding? The Grandparents would have Star Wars, the adults would have Potter, and the kids would have Frozen.

The FP+ doesn't work.

Park feels kinda too much for kids. Needs to appeal to adults in more areas. For example, roller coasters. Please?

Frozen might fail... To be honest.. In 10-20 years they are really gonna regret avatar and frozen stuff.

Yeah because Avatar is completely based on the films story, and you know Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and The Beast are COMPLETELY irrelevant nowadays.

For the parks in Orlando, Bob Iger, a TV and margin guy as CEO.

He's the one that is responsible for most of the complaints mentioned and who let WDW whither away and suck margin instead of investing for the future.
