The water is *COLDER*

We were at TL the other day, and the water is notably cooler. Then we went to the pool at SSR and it had dropped a few degrees in a couple days.

I was given the name of the supervisor to talk to about it, though I doubt it would have an affect.

Sure it's not just that the weather is finally starting to cool down a smidge around here? Generally, it's a feel-like of well over 100F in the summer outside, and this week, with the temps being only in the low 80's the feels-like outdoor temp is as much as 15 - 20 degrees less. That can really impact the feel of water.

*shrugs*

Also, keep in mind that open-air water will change in relation to the air temp itself. Without a covering, pools and such get VERY hot in the summer and VERY cold when the weather shifts. It's why so many pools are screened-in here in Florida. It's easier to regulate the temp.

I don't get how the heaters/pools work either. They seem very peculiar in the winter months.

For example, last winter at Yacht Club, the larger pool of Stormalong Bay was quite chilly, yet the water temp of the lazy river-esque side of the pool was hot tub like. A HUGE difference that was very noticeable by both lifeguards and Guests.

At Typhoon Lagoon, Mayday Falls was super warm, but Storm Slides were cold.

Yet all signs (at our Resort and TL) stated that the water was maintained at 82 degrees. Not quite....

The heaters may break... or be the same size... one for a larger area... one for a smaller area...

Sometimes its hard to make them work too....

I was also told they were all 82 degrees.

Just a cool thing to mention about that. When I was married in Feb. 1993 we stayed at Port Orleans (now POFQ). We arrived at about 12:30 at night and it was extremely chilly out and because of that there was about 2 feet of fog all over the pool. If you have never been to POFQ, it has a giant sea serpent in the pool. It was an extremely erie site, especially because there was not a sole around.

Heading for the great escape.
When the wind gets up its cold enough to make a brass monkey loose its bearings, despite the pool being tub hot. Summit Plummet never again in Nov.

That was my thought when I saw the thread title as well.... :lookaroun

Wouldn't you rather have it a little cool that too hot? I prefer not to sweat coming out of the water, when not in a hot tub.

Guess being a northeasterner, if the temp is over 65 its good to go...

yeh, living in the south..... the pools can get a little warm in the middle of the summer if they dont pump some fresh water in. I remember one time in college, we were sitting at the pool, about 20-30 people were there and nobody was in the water because the water temp was so warm it was kind of nasty feeling

or was it that it reminded me of a baby pool? :lookaroun

Just got back (Time to plan next year's trip :)).

I looked at my dive watch (it keeps a memory of the water temps).

Day 1 - At the hotel pool the water was 88 degrees (SSR).
Day 3 - At TL the water was 83 degrees. Shark Reef was 78 degrees.
I commented to a lifeguard that I thought the water was
colder than normal, she said that it had just been turned
down.

Day 3 - At the hotel pool the water was 85 degrees (SSR).
I commented again that it was cooler, the lifeguard
agreed. She had just rescued a child at the slide.

Day 5 - Blizzard beach. Water was 84 degrees on the slides.
The kids pool was 86 degrees, the river was 86.

Day 7 - Blizzard beach, temps were down one more degree.

I compared these to the temps that I had from last year, and the water was 3 to 4 degrees cooler. For my kids it was too cool at the water parks after a while, they needed to get out to warm up. Now we live in the Pacific Northwest where the water is really cold, so we aren't wimps. And the lifeguards confirmed that the water temps have been reduced.

This wasn't a major downer for the trip, but it did take my satisfaction level down a notch or two.

That episode was on last night. Too funny.

At BW last March, both quiet pools were warm, but the main pool was ice. It was probably a temporary heating problem. Over the years, I've found them to be quite consistent, although one year at the DXL it was like soup.

I agree ! As a northerner who moved to the greater Daytona area for several years before returning to Ohio, I loved going to the beach on Christmas day. There we would be, splashing happily in the breakers while the native Floridians were shivering in their coats !! Just a matter of perspective, I guess.
