Pre-Trip The wait, who is coming and where are we staying PTR

Hello, hello!
Well, Disney sucked me in again and we are heading back to the World! Its funny how it started off with just my Mom and I being addicted and now the bug has hit my whole family :)

I usually break my introductions down into little sections, but planning this trip was so chaotic I think it deserves to be told as a whole story :) Put your seatbelt on, this is going to be a long ride!

Way back when in March (before our last trip) I was picking my vacations and decided to pick my time off to match the time of the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Jill and I always wanted to do that race so thought during my residency would be the best time to do it. So, the day came for sign ups and we both decided hey why not register? We can always defer a year if it doesn't work out
I raced home from work and before heading to my afternoon clinic spent a stressful 20 minutes registering for the half. This screen is so stressful! (Also, it says 9:03 am but I believe it was at 12).
IMG_1590.jpg

We knew my Mom would want to do it too so we signed her up, without telling her (aka the root of my stress, registering on 3 different computers for 2 spots haha). Jill and I fought over who had to tell her in case she would be mad (not sure why we thought that haha) and Jill lost so she told her and my Mom was thrilled! Woohoo this was going to be a great trip! We had so many options of where to stay and we planned on getting Annual Passes in May when we went so we would be all set!

Ok, fast forward a little bit and my sister Betta (Elizabeth is her real name) decided she could not miss another trip and she wanted to bring my nephew along too, but did not think her fiancé Ron could come. Yay! The baby is coming (oh and Betta too haha). For several reasons I wont get into we decided we would all stay in the same room and my Dad would join us.
Before telling my Dad the plan my Mom and I were in the car talking about how we would stay anywhere that was NOT Art of Animation. We just didn’t like that hotel for some reason. We were racking our brains where we could stay as a party of 6 and my Mom came up with Fort Wilderness. Great idea! This hotel holds sentimental value for us as it is the place we stayed for all of our early trips in the 90’s. Everyone was happy. So, we sat my Dad down at dinner and told him our plan and we may or may not have pushed him into saying yes :p
Here we are in the Fort Wilderness Pool in 1992

And outside our cabin in 1997
IMG_20160725_0005_NEW.jpg
IMG_20160725_0006_NEW.jpg

Then one night I was thinking about it and I realized Fort Wilderness doesn't have an actual food court for us to eat breakfast/lunch at and we won’t have a car. We considered maybe getting a grocery drop off or a golf cart but this didn’t make sense to us. I reluctantly suggested Art of Animation because this would mean two bathrooms, a food court and it was a bit cheaper. Everyone agreed to that so I canceled Fort Wilderness and booked Art of Animation. Everything was set! We went on our last trip, I booked the dining reservations during the trip (for 5 adults and an infant) and everything was great. Then, like two weeks after we got home my sister lets me know her fiancé is coming…..

Ok well, major change in plans, but its OK I can handle it! The first step was finding a hotel for four of us (Jill, my Mom, my Dad and me). The one problem was it’s a race weekend and there was barely anything available. Betta, Ron and Max decided to come down Monday and skip the race weekend. They found a reservation at POFQ starting Monday so I looked and I found one as well. I made sure my Dad wanted to come on the trip since we kind of forced his hand originally and he said of course he did not want to miss a vacation! So I booked POFQ from Monday November 7-Saturday November 12.
Heres a throwback picture of us visiting POFQ in 1997 :) Found it when I was looking through the old pictures (thats my cousin Jenny in the back, with Betta and I).
IMG_20160725_0008.jpg

I searched and searched the website for something race weekend and everything was so expensive I didn’t know what to do. Finally I found a semi-decent price on Orbitz for a hotel that my Mom suggested and Jill really wanted to stay at: The Polynesian!!!! It will only be from Saturday November 5th – Monday the 7th but it’s a dream come true for us!
Here we are at the Polynesian in 1997
IMG_20160725_0002.jpg

Everything seemed great until I started looking at flights. They were insanely expensive to fly out on Saturday but Jill has to work on Friday no exceptions so we couldn’t leave earlier. I am, however, on vacation the whole week before and my Mom is off on the Thursday and Friday before so we checked out flights and the vacation creep hit us hard…haha. It was actually cheaper for my Mom and I to fly out Friday and stay at a value resort than to fly on Saturday. I looked again and it was still cheaper to fly out Thursday and stay at a value so we added two extra days. We picked All Star Sports since it was the cheapest. We have stayed at the All Stars (Movies) before but not since the early 2000’s!
Here are some All Star Movies throwback pictures

For everyone who tells me I look like I'm 17 thats what I actually looked like at 17 :D

Well, there you have it! I got a total of 5 booklets in the mail from Disney...sorry Disney haha

Next up: a summary of the blurb above

Quite a story and great to read :) Thanks for sharing an funny too see such older pictures... with a competely different way of clothes...although the resorts are quite easy to recognize!

Haha the clothes are ridiculous! I always ask my Mom if the Winnie the Pooh shirt was the only thing I ever wore because its in all the pictures. Now I pack at least 2 outfits a day :p

I LOVE all the old pictures! We used to stay in Fort Wilderness too!
So jealous about the Polynesian! That is my dream resort :)
And our trips will overlap again! Getting in Friday the 11th and leaving Monday the 14th. So maybe this time we'll run into each other :)

Wasn't Fort Wilderness so fun?! I remember that hotel more than any other because we spent so much time there. My Mom always says "back then" we didn't go to the parks as much because there wasn't as much to do so we spent a lot of time at the hotel. I hope we run into each other!!!!

Those old pictures are great! I know I have some of me at Dixie Landings. I should dig them out! LOL.
This sounds like it's going to be a great trip! Can't wait to read more.

You should!!! I love seeing old pictures! I thought these would liven up my ridiculous long story :)

Ok! Here is an overview of all the words above :)

Who:
You probably remember these characters below: Left to right - My Mom (Mary), My Dad (Jeff), Me (Megan) and my sister Jill
PhotoPass_Visiting_Disneys_Hollywood_Studios_7676529810.jpg

You may remember my sister Betta from my PHM TR; with her fiancé Ron (my nephew is hiding in this picture)
This is Ron's first real trip to Disney! He has only been one time as a kid for a day
13166096_10156781187800005_7014453542706639626_n.jpg

And Max! My nephew! He is 11 months old, will be a little over 14 months on the trip! His first trip!
I bought him these ears before we knew if he was a boy or girl :)

Being the youngest in my family I have never traveled with a baby before! I am a little nervous, but have been doing tons of research! Any suggestions of anything having to do with traveling with kiddos would be great :) We have already been looking up stroller rentals and such, but not sure which type of stroller to chose  So many options!

When?
My Mom and I from November 3 - November 12
My Dad and Jill from November 5 - November 12
Betta, Ron and Max from November 7 - November 12

Where?
All Star Sports November 3-5 (just my Mom and I)
Polynesian!!!!!!! Nov 5-7 (Mom, Dad, Jill, me)
POFQ Nov 7-12 (all of us!)
I have never resort hopped before and of course we are doing it twice. I am really nervous about this after seeing all these luggage woes lately, I will probably have a lot of questions before we leave!

Why?
Wine and Dine Half Marathon! Woohoo! This will be our second Run Disney event! I am really hoping we have good weather and some time to meet a character or two this time around!

Next up: In-training

We took Harper when she was 15 months on her first trip and it was a great time. Make sure they utilize the baby stations! They are great. Nice and quiet, with quiet space, and changing tables.

Renting a stroller has been a godsend for us!! We get the City Mini because of it's amazing sunshade. That baby really covers them up and keeps them out of the heat. It also folds in one fell swoop when you pull a little handle. Our last trip we went through kingdom strollers and they were great. Only like $80 for the whole week, but make sure they get the insurance!!! It's only like $15 but covers it if something should happen to it.

We never needed to go back to the room for naps as Harper would nap in that stroller for 2 hours every day (the back reclines almost the whole way back) and she was fine! Just make sure they have plenty of snacks, sippy cups, and child size silverware if he uses them. That was also sometime I was so glad I had!

I fly in on Nov. 3 too! We are doing MK on 11/3, then going on the Dream, then one day at Epcot 11/7.

Also can I just add how jealous I am that you get to go so often?? I think I still need to catch up on some of your reports! I've fallen way behind! (I'm also terrible at commenting!)

Megan! You get to stay at the POLY!!!!!!:inlove::joyfull: YAY!!! I am so excited for you! I think you will love it. I found it to be very relaxing. Splitting up the stay at 3 resorts would stress me out, but in some ways it also seems like fun.
It will be fun to have 2 newbies on the trip. I hope Ron enjoys Disney as much as the rest of you. I hope Max enjoys the characters. My kids were okay with the princesses and face characters like Mary Poppins, but did not like the other characters until they were much older. I think it is because they seem soooooo big. On our first trip when our daughter was 4 she was dying to visit Minnie's house in Toon Town Fair, but was terrified that Minnie would be home and she did NOT want to meet her! Luckily, we were able to tour the house without meeting Minnie.
Jealous that you get to do another runDisney race! My sister and I want to do another one and we might have my daughter convinced as well. I just read that they now give out metal medals for all distances. No more rubber medals for the 5k so I won't even have to increase my distance to get a nicer medal :inlove:!
I will of course be following along. Hope you are able to meet some other forum members while you are there. It sounds like lots of people will be there then!

THIS WAS SO HELPFUL! Thank you so much! The stroller especially. I kept looking at them thinking what the heck I don't know they all look the same haha (esp since I don't have kids). I'm reserving the stroller as we speak :)
Max isn't big into naps so hopefully he can nap in the stroller when he does need one! That would nice :)
I did not even think about child size silverware! Thanks for all the tips!

Oh really?! Maybe we will run into each other! I'm sure we will be in the MK on 11/3! I can't wait to do a cruise someday :) Thanks for reading!

I was sad to finish your last TR but now I can enjoy this one! You have a beautiful family and I love reading your adventures together!

ditto! Can't wait to hear about your family adventures as well! Love reading your TRs!

We are so thrilled to be staying at the Polynesian! I feel like I copy your reports :) First you wrote about the WL and I stayed there then I stayed there and now the Poly :) I hope Max likes the characters too. I'm a bit nervous about that! I literally can not believe all races give metal medals now! I wish I knew that, I would have done the 5K to 10K LOL!!! JK prob not but I literally run for the medals :)

So glad I could help! And trust me, he will sleep in Disney! There is so much stimulation! I have the child that DOES NOT NAP. I thought she'd never nap in Disney, and was so so worried. The first day she didn't fall asleep until 3pm (wayyyyyy past nap time) and we were actually heading to leave when I looked down and saw her out and I couldn't believe it. I was shocked! She slept for 2 hours every day! I was so so glad we had the stroller!

Well I know I said I would talk about training next, but I remembered I never talked about our loose plans/dining reservations :)

November 3

We leave Buffalo at 8 am and land around 10:30 am. We plan on going to Epcot for some Food and Wine fun.
EPCOT_ECENTR1_7520426887.jpeg

We had a great time last year at the Festival and can't wait to try some new things! We have already been stalking the menus!
We have dinner reservations at 5:45 at the California Grill! Its so funny my Mom and I figured we would not make it to California Grill this trip, but when we were looking into going earlier price wise I happened to find a CG reservation for Thursday and that solidified going earlier than Saturday for us! Its our first night tradition! We may pop into MK after dinner :)

November 4
I think we may head back to Epcot again this day :) Hoping for Frozen or Soarin' FPs
May try and make it to the Race Expo at some point
We have dinner reservations at 8:20 for 'Ohana. I really want to try dinner here so I am excited! The only way we won't go to this is if the AK hours change drastically and I would miss R of L on our AK day. With @prfctlyximprct on this one...wish they would solidify the hours :)

November 5
MOVING TO THE POLYNESIAN!

Jill and my Dad leave Buffalo at 8:05 am and arrive at 10:40 am
Not sure what my Mom and I will be doing in the morning, but we will be heading to the race expo to pick up our packets when Jill and my Dad get there
IMG_1371.JPG

Can't wait to look at all the merchandise!
We may head to the MK for the afternoon and for dinner we are planning on eating at Captain Cook's :)

November 6
RACE DAY!

Up early and run a race.....just 13 miles haha
I am anxiously awaiting the course map because we have no idea what this course is going to be now that its a morning race and half of HS is closed
Just my Mom, Jill and I will be running...maybe my Dad will meet us in the end !
Here we are at our first Run Disney event in Feb 2015!
IMG_0226.jpg

After the race we will be relaxing and maybe popping over to the MK for a bit!
We plan on stopping at Trader Sam's in the evening then heading over to Epcot for the post-race party. I got my Dad a ticket so he can join us! It looks cool with bands and some of the rides being open during the party :)

November 7
Move to POFQ!

Betta, Max and Ron arrive around 11:30 am. Plan is for Epcot since this is probably the only day Betta, Max and Ron will get there
We have dinner reservations at Via Napoli at 4:40 pm for all of us (actually for 6 of us...I figured Max doesn't count too much..haha I made this reservation before I knew Ron was coming)

November 8
MK Day, hoping to sleep in a little because we will have a late night :)
1900 Park Fare 11:30 am for brunch
CHRISTMAS PARTY! WooHoo! I am excited for everyone to see this :) My Mom and I went before and we will definitely wear different shoes this time so we can enjoy it more haha. Hoping to get a better view of the parade this year
Also hoping to meet a few more characters

November 9
Hollywood Studios Day! Ron is a huge Star Wars fan so I am excited for him to see the Launch Bay and whatever else is around! Hoping they have Star Wars fireworks this night. I purposely picked Wednesday since they historically are on Wednesdays :)
Dinner at Mama Melroses for My Dad, Mom, Jill and I at 4:05
CAN NOT WAIT TO EAT THAT STEAK AGAIN!
And see my main man...
IMG_1224.JPG

November 10
AK Day!!
Really wondering if Rivers of Light will be open, and what time!
For my Birthday Jill surprised me with a dinner reservation for Sanaa!!!! I am so excited!!!! We have reservations at 6:45 pm (for now, possible adjustment needed if R of L is open). Betta, Ron and Max have reservations for Morimoto Asia at 7-ish. My parents are planning on doing something at Disney Springs

November 11
Back to MK!
My parents, Jill and I have dinner reservations at Be Our Guest at 7:25 pm! I am pretty proud of getting this reservation. I looked constantly for it after Jill said she really wanted to try dinner there :)
PhotoPass_Visiting_MK_7684917442.jpeg

November 12:
LAST DAY :(
Betta, Max and Ron leave very early in the morning. The rest of us leave at 2:30. Not sure what we plan on doing yet :)

Well, all in all considering I canceled almost every reservation I made at the 180 day mark (because of Ron coming on the trip) I am pretty pleased with how many reservations I managed to get. Just goes to show 180 days is less stressful but doesn't make it impossible to get things like BOG and 'Ohana !

Next up: In training for real this time !

We will be in Hollywood studios the same day! I hope I run into you!! Ahhhhh :)

And I thought planning my trip was hard, you put the icing on the cake for that one :)

Can't wait to hear about the POLYNESIAN! I am so jealous. Ya wanna trade places for a little bit?

I can't believe our trips are soooo soon!

YES! We have to try and find each other. I should get your number or something before we leave :) I'm a real person I promise haha
I have a fear my trip chaos planning isn't over yet either....possibly more changes to come!
I'm very excited to stay at the Poly! I would like to really see Riverside at some point. We can trade...haha jk I don't think my family would appreciate it!

I am a real person too! And I feel you on the constant trip planning... if anything switches with the Star Wars fireworks or AK night time or even the possibility of ROL, my plans will all be shifted again! LOL

And we can pull off a Mary-Kate and Ashley style switcharoo.. just throw on some ears! :)

BTW, I love you Christmas party outfits! Does everyone dress up! This is something I must look into!

ROL is really a bummer on my plans right now. I wish I knew what the park hours were and what time it would be at so I can adjust my schedule haha
Hahah Mary-Kate and Ashley style. It would totally work :)
We dressed up for the Christmas party and a LOT of people at least had Christmas shirts on. But, plenty of people had festive bottoms on too. Obv a ton of kids were dressed, but adults too! I thought I would feel weird wearing a sparkle skirt (I use them for running), but we got a ton of compliments on our outfits from CMs so I don't think it was frowned upon haha
