The two very different fantasyland's

There has been a lot of talk latley about the disapointment of taking snow white out of fantasyland and putting in a meet n greet when the seven drawfs mine opens. first of all i think this is quite smart, but also leads to a totally different concept.

For example:
your opening a snow white ride that will reach a much broader audience.
yes i'm a Disney purest as well, and love dark rides, but can they promote Scary adventures...they sure as heck can do it to the new one.
Its another reason to go to disneyland, Mr Toads, Snow white, Pinocchio, Alice, peter pan(which obv we have) in fact after this whole deal is done, it will be two completely different fantasylands. in Disneyland you have the classic, mostly dark ride fantasyland with a giant small world and the above mentioned attractions, as well as the Matterhorn. An in WDW you have the new age fantasyland, with e-tickets, meet and greets. if i'm disney i'm thinking, i'm offering something completely different on both my west coast and east coast kingdoms

Other things to think about this move
the amount of money they make on autograph books/pens/photopass is crazy
Fantasyland has very few meet and greet areas

WDW's Fantasyland doesn't have any E ticket attractions. The Little Mermaid is apparently a D ticket attraction. The Dwarf Mine Train has been confirmed by insiders such as Lee also as being a D ticket. Matterhorn is apparently the only E ticket ride at any Fantasyland around the world.

Meet n Greets aren't what i'd call a competent and substantial replacement for a ride.

Nice analogy.

The rumor is that the m&g's going into the SW dark ride are only placeholders until they move into a more permanent setting. If you think about carefully enough I think you will be able to understand the ultimate destination for every princess at the MK.

Haunted Mansion can be found in Tokyo Disneyland's Fantasyland.

I always forget that. Though it's still true that WDW's Fantasyland has no E tickets and likely won't be getting any.

I have heard some fan speculation to that effect. Until anything is actually greenlit though, i'm not going to jump to any happy conclusions on the matter. I understand the destinations the princesses are intended to have, their own unique areas or whatever is going on. That doesn't quell worries about the empty building being squandered for who knows how long. Not saying anything is permanent, but wasted space at WDW is nothing new. The top floor of Imagination and the entirety of Wonders of Life come to mind.

Yep, It's A Small World was an E-Ticket, as was 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, when it was still around.

If The Little Mermaid is anything on par with The Haunted Mansion, then I think it might be an E-Ticket. Can't wait to see!!

Agreed. The rumor came from a person who has been exactly right about how all the M&G's were moved around over the last year or so. I can't remember who it was but they presented the information as a riddle and people were able to decipher it and so far everything has happened.

Now I am not into M&G's personally but I certainly understand that many guests are. Especially as part of an immersive experience as the Belle attraction will be. If they decided to have such an attraction for every princess somewhere at the MK it would be a huge hit I think. And I know how they could do it but I am waiting for the first phase of the FLE to say. Hopefully my hunch is right.

I haven't ridden Mermaid, but based on the video's of the one at DCA it doesn't look on par with Haunted Mansion, but it does look like a nice ride. I sort of thing of it as an updated version of the Fantasyland dark rides like Snow White and Pooh, but not in the same class as HM.

Having ridden the DLR version, I personally don't think it's anything close to the experience of the Haunted Mansion.

Although it is a nice ride, and I've heard a few people argue that it is an E-ticket.

But not in my book. Not even close.

It does. Small World is an E-Ticket. Really.

Mermaid is a D in the 'barely' category. It's very underwhelming in Anaheim.

I hate to contradict my BFF Lee, but I don't see the Mine Train as more than a C at best. It's short ... very few show scenes ... and not big on thrills. Slightly better than Barnstormer.

Oh, and Pooh's Hunny Hunt in TDR is most definitely an E ... and the Golden Mickeys stage show in HKDL would qualify as well ... as would each park's Small World attractions ... oh, and Mansion is in F-land in TDL too and that certainly is an E. So ... they do exist!

Meet n Greets aren't what i'd call a competent and substantial replacement for a ride.

I agree ... but we don't make those decisions. And they are VERY, VERY cheap.

WDW's Fantasyland opened with 3 E-Tickets. One (Small World) still exists, one was downgraded to a D before closing (Mickey Mouse Revue which until recently was still in TDL) and one (20K) was in the spot where two smaller rides will be soon.

I don't really care what fake "ticket" level a ride is considered as long as it's good and lives up to its expectation. Philharmagic to me is more of an "E" Ticket than MK's Space Mountain for example, but that's just me.

Bummer, I was hoping for a little more. All the previews and state of the art animatronics made it seem really cool. Is it a shorter ride than the Haunted Mansion?

Oh well, I'm sure it will be a nice ride nonetheless. Thanks for the info. We are going to try to get to Disneyland next Sep after all the new DCA stuff opens.

Right now, the biggest draw in Fantasyland for me is Mickey's PhilharMagic. I don't think I'm alone in saying that it should be regarded as a D-Ticket at best. D-Ticket doesn't mean an attraction is bad, plenty of great attractions can be classified as D-Tickets. You're allowed to refer to an attraction as a D-Ticket and not mean it as a negative thing. Dare I say, you're even allowed to have fun on a D-Ticket attraction.

As for WDW1974's opinion on Mermaid, I think he's being too harsh on it. I view it as a step up from Pooh and Pan (which I consider C-Tickets). When it opens in Fantasyland, it will be my favorite ride in that section of the park. That doesn't mean that it's also an E-Ticket like "it's a small world", it just means that the scope of the attraction isn't as grand as some of those classic big budget rides.

Having said all that, the actual budget of Mermaid is that of an E-Ticket, and judged solely by that budget, the attraction is underwhelming. But to judge it on the most important aspect - the ride is enjoyable and is a welcome addition to Fantasyland.

Whatever... the point is they are 2 totally different Fantasylands and I think the original post is right on!
