Well, this news sucks. Loved to listen to those guys.

Disney seems to be killing off "live entertainment". Who's next???

Sad news. They were my favorite live entertainers at Animal Kingdom and I LOVE the sound of steel drums. On a similar note, I miss the steel drums in Adventureland, as well.

Unfortunately, this doesn't surprise me since many of my favorite World Showcase live entertainers have been cut in the last few years as well :(

It seems like every year there are live entertainment cuts around this time...

It's a shame; to me Disney is totally dumbing-down their entertainment all over the resort.

With the general exception of at Epcot, the removal of live entertainment (and the subsequent dumbing down to foam-head character entertainment only) has been part of the agenda of WDW management for a number of years. It has been the worst at MK, but what makes the DAK cutbacks so terrible is that park is already short on things to do, and it doesn't look like there have been any announcements about replacement acts. All this from the supposed "flagship" resort of the world-reknowned "Disney Parks".

The bottom line is that live entertainers have talent, are unionized, and require more pay than college kids dancing around in character costumes for minimum wage. Apparently Disney thinks they are not "magical" enough to justify the cost. Its a shame, because live music and entertainment can truly take an ordinary setting and make people's experience special. You know, the whole point of Disney parks in the first place.

^ Yep, IMO, this is getting pretty insulting, that they think they can continue to cut this kind of entertainment so frequently while continuing to raise the price. I don't see why Disney can't spare the money for a few live acts at each park - live entertainment is a staple even at hometown parks and parks such as Busch Gardens and Universal. And rubber heads aren't really an adequate replacement...

Why is it the things that have made the most magic during my trips are the things that seem to disappear without great reason? Very sad to hear that they fellas are leaving. I have always made a point to stop and enjoy their music and magic.

Remember when, strolling banjo players where in the (now) Garden Grill? Remember when, while waiting in long lines roaming entertainers would show up and perform? Off topic, remember when every ride/attraction did not exit into a gift shop?
Is Off Kilter next? Three rows of benches were two rows last month!

I remember those guys playing one day when I was on line waiting to get into the theater for Nemo. They were very goood. Sorry to see them go.

New entertainment offering, while waiting for Nemo, take in the sounds and music of LEMON MOUTH!!!!!

Not sure why. Steel drums were invented in Trinidad Tobago in the 1940s so neither African nor Asian so don't see how they fit naturally into the ambiance of AK. Felt out of place to me.

Trinidad & Tobago is populated mostly by descendants of Asian immigrants and African slaves.

One of the things I love about Disneyland is all of the live entertainment. Even at their DTD it is so much better than at WDW. :(
I miss the piano player and singers at Brown Derby to this day.

It is Animal kingdom not "Africa Kingdom".

It dosen't matter who came up with the drums, they sound cool.

I bought a steel drum CD at CBR in 1997.

Saw them last week

We just got back and they were there. There was a little boy (maybe 4/5?) who was just JAMMING OUT to them! Even the guys were all giggling and loving watching this little guy rock out the steel drums. They applauded him at the end of their set.

Bottom line, though, I really like these guys and hope that they stick around indefinitely.
