The Tiki Room and the Future of our WDW Community: Where will we travel?

There's a reason why the original Tiki Room has a loyal, devoted and vocal (size is up for debate) fan base and nobody defends Under New Management.

You know better than to say stupid things like that! You're wrong and you know that you're wrong, you stupid dunce!

As the great Enderikari once said, "Do not speak ex cathedra from your belly button"!

Around 40 posts on a refurbished Tiki Room and I didn't see where anyone mentioned the "S" word. You know, Stitch!

Simple solution, bring back the original show for a year long celebration of the 40th. This rumor has been around for a couple years and it does make sense.

Then, after the crowds begin to thin again bring in the Stitch show.

Now if I were making the decision I would not remove the old show. Instead I would have an attraction that can run in two modes. Either the original or Stitch mode to keep everyone happy and the attraction fresh for many more years. It would also allow them to close the Stitch show in Tomorrowland and install something fitting. Wall-E?

So simple.

Why does Stitch have to destroy every attraction? The only way I would be happy with Stitch in the Tiki room is if they returned Alien encounter to it's former glory.

I loathe everything about Stitch. I consider the entire property beneath Disney's capabilities. I wish they would sell off the entire franchise to the highest bidder. Yet for some inexplicable reason the thought of Stitch creating havoc in the Tiki room appeals to me. It works in some bizarre way.

Mostly though Stitch should be purged from Tomorrowland. :hurl:

Just wanted to toss this out there as more evidence that the original show is coming back and going to be promoted to some extent. If anyone is familiar with Olszewski who does the Gallery of Lights for Disney as well as creates all those faboulous miniatures of Main Street and attractions, well this Saturday he had a signing. Heres the piece of interest from it:

"Only one bit of news in the Gallery of Light series. A Tiki Room piece was done in 2008, but it was a limited edition of 500, which has since sold out. Disney has asked for a re-release of the piece."

And just to toss is out there for you Star Wars fans, a new Gallery of Light coming soon:

I think if their going to bring back the original show, they should make it more along the lines of COP, where in the beginning they talk about how it was one of Walts original ideas and the history behind it. Its dated and looks very dated and its going to be hard to ever bring it up to the level of todays attractions, so if their going to keep it, just make it more like a history piece in the parks. Add a Walt inspired intro, freshen everything up and change the entrance so people can find it. Done and done!

Maybe because the Stitch that lives in a Pacific Islands setting (because there is an Okinawan-set anime now) generally isn't the one that Disney marketing executives turn into a Poochie?

I agree, this would be a great extra new touch, and especially with the 40th a nice way to aknowledge how the original came about with Walt. But will they? Probably not as it would be one more feature they would have to work on and implement and TDO as we know does as little as possible, the MK could use another nod to Walt himself, at least for the anniversary. I mean would it hurt them? :brick:

No worries... Stitch won't be making any appearances in Adventureland any time soon. ;)

Thank goodness! :)

100% in favor of the ORIGINAL show for the Tiki Room :sohappy: Duckberg :D

Yeah, if the rumors are true it is going to be one great summer ahead!

Entrance...I agree 100%!!!

As for the Intro like COP.... Ya know THAT would be an incredibly AWESOME idea actually... they could have a video screen out in the preshow that runs for a a few minutes before the actual pre-show begins...

Why is there so much hate for Lilo & Stitch? I thought the first film was fantastic and the only one worth seeing in the '00 years (that is excluding The Princess and the Frog, which was released in '09). It still remains as one of my favorite animated Disney films. That's not to say that its sequels and television series were fantastic, though. They went overboard with it in that respect.

Sure, Stitch's Great Escape! isn't exactly a highlight in the Magic Kingdom, but I thought it was all right. In my opinion, it could have been much worse. Then again, I never had the chance to experience Alien Encounter while it was still operating (too frightened/young), so perhaps I can't voice a sound opinion.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, by no means do I think Stitch should take over the Enchanted Tiki Room. Although he comes from Hawaii, which I suppose could fit into the tropical/jungle/whatever theme of Adventureland, I see no coherent connection he could possibly make with the singing birds.

I don't think he ever took over any other attraction aside from Alien Encounters (do inform me if I'm incorrect), so I don't understand why people say, "Why does he ruin every attraction he's featured in?"

It's not the film, but the over-commercialization of the character.

Much like they have done with Toy Story, etc.

When you start to see a character show up in 1,000 different places at once for no good reason other than to push the brand, it gets very annoying to many.

It doesn't help that Alien Encounter (an amazing attraction, IMO) was replaced by something less than stellar, featuring Stitch. And then there was Stitch's Supersonic Celebration. It's like he's WDI's fallguy.

 I agree!

Lilo & Stitch is a great movie (makes me tear up!), but I do feel like Stitch has been "over-marketed", just like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, etc. He invades attractions, merchandise, and even the monorail loop (at one point). There's no escape!

Ah. I can sympathize with that, then. I do see an unnecessary abundance of Stitch in the parks, although I can't really say I feel the same with Finding Nemo or Toy Story. Nemo pretty much revived our Living Seas and Disneyland's abandoned 20K attraction, and it added something to do in Animal Kingdom (I find the show rather impressive!). It would be nice if Space Ranger Spin lived up to the standards of the new and shiny Midway Mania, though...
