The Thing thats just sooooo different about being in Magic Kingdom

Yes, the MK is the fairest of them all. There's something special about that place. It has never failed to move me if I enter that park.

But EPCOT is awesome too. Sadly, EPCOT's great entry has been sold for a quick buck when they removed it for the LAL war memorial.

DHS I find almost perfect too. Yes, the entrance of 'square -> retro-street -> hub with castle' is a blatant rip-off of the MK, but bravo for that! Love it! Alas, nowadays you look at the silly hat instead of a majestic theater castle. Thank God the BAH is only temporary to celebrate Walt's 100th birthday of a hundred and twelve years ago!

DAK I like. It's entrance works differently. DAK is a park that wants to reward (and so entice) exploration. This begins at the entrance. I enjoy how I first have to find my way along the paths of the Oasis for the big reveal. What a beautiful view it is! The bridge, the tree, the river, it looks great.

Hmmm...I must say, WDW does dramatic entrances very well. Even if two have been hopelessly vandalised. We just can't have nice things at WDW.

The thing that is sooo different about MK... is that it is almost always an absolute madhouse, even when all the other Orlando parks are calm. I don't see how anyone could see it as relaxing. By far the least possible park to "relax" in in Orlando.

Magic Kingdom has, not to be corny or melodramatic, the "disney magic" to it. The characters and stories all come to life there, while the other parks (with their sprinkle of Mickey, Minnie, etc here and there) just don't quite have that "return to childhood" feel to it that MK has. Epcot and AK seem to have a consistency to their theming (even if some of Future World's offerings are in serious need of change), and DHS just seems like an inconsistent mish-mash of attractions.

Entering the Magic Kingdom was designed to be a journey. A magical journy into another world. It was designed to start when you leave your car in the parking lot. It haschanged some since most people dont go to the main parking lot when going to the Magic kingdom now. but it is still a special journey. The castle was built at its current height so it could be seen from across the Seven seas lagoon. so as u entered the ferry boat or monorail u get very excited about the journey to the Magic Kingdom as u see the castle. It is amazing what all happens as you eventually get closer and finally enter the park going under a tunnel and emerging in a new world. No great planning was spent on the other parks as far as making them have a great entry. Disney seems to have lost what made them special, the ability to make special areas and attractions. I take that back, they dont spend money in American parks to make them special any more. So the great entry into the Magic Kingdom is one of the most important things to me about what is special about the magic Kingdom.

for me magic kingdom is special but oddly enough it doesn't work alone, for me it actually begins at the airport. without fail there will be a kid on the plane, (actually a bunch) but one kid seems to always get off the plane into the airport and go "wow! so this is disney!" thinking what reaction that's kids going to have when they REALLY see Disney, thats the part that makes me smile because on my first trip I did the exact same as a kid.

We often speak of the magic bubble...well, I think if there were strength zones to that bubble, said bubble would be at its strongest in MK. I swear, to me it's like a force field goes up once I've entered through those gates... probably b/c there are so few reminders of the outside world. Still, I don't feel like I'm at WDW until I've been to MK ... and even after I've been to MK, I sometimes feel the urge to drop visits to other parks in favor of a return to MK.

I think that all of them have a special feeling when you enter...except DHS. Entering DHS is no different to me than entering any amusement park. Epcot is the most uplifting and AK is the loveliest.

But the MK is totally the most magical. :)

I agree with your comment, especially on DHS. Doesn't have that same feel for me.

This! It also feels very corporate magic. I still love walking down Main Street at night, but Disneyland has more of that special feel. So does Sunset Blvd and Avenue of the Planets at night.

Definitely agree. I never really felt that MK seemed "corporate" until I finally got to visit Disneyland. Disneyland's charm and magic blows MK's out of the water. For people who have only ever been to WDW, its hard to describe how MK feels "corporate" and Disneyland doesn't, but Disneyland manages to feel like a more traditional park just done very, very well.

That's not to say that MK isn't a great park. It is, its impressive, has rich history, and is very beautiful, but it actually kind of sad to me how many people visit Orlando and only ever experience MK, and only ever experience it when its super chaotic (which is most of the time.)

A late Spring, early Summer or mid to late Fall evening walking down Main St., USA, the lights are coming on, the smell of fresh popcorn is in the air, the crowds have mostly moved further on into the park, there's some music playing somewhere that is just ever so slightly at a distance, you're with the one or ones that you love and who love you . . .

Anybody with me on this?

Theres just something thats soooo different being in Magic Kingdom, walking onto Main St that just isnt there with the rest of the parks. That feeling that you get that you just don't get at the others. OR maybe you get that same feeling about the other parks. For me no feeling like entereing the MK. For us we have to make it our first stop. It IS Disney! That feeling that comes over you of just pure relaxation. That feeling of " we are back, we are home" This is the first park we brought our kids way back in 1986 and just brings back such wonderful memories and warm feelings. Not that the others dont but no where near as much as magic Kingdom

Quite right. Universal is an amazing place overall, and it's currently out-"plussing" WDW, but there is nothing like walking down Main Street and seeing the Castle at the end of it. Pure joy. Pure Disney.

Main Street at the Magic Kingdom is still a treat after countless visits. The music, the scents, the lights, the performers, the horse and trolly, the window decorations, the Castle at the end. It's just vintage Disney, and a great feast for the senses. One thing though...too many tourists. Perhaps I should call someone to see if they can do something about that for me...

I agree 1000% about that feeling when you arrive at the Magic Kingdom. No matter what form of transportation you take, you're a good distance from the castle and every step you take towards the park entrance, the anxiety and anticipation grows and then, when you walk under the Disney World railroad station and finally see the tall castle up close, you know you're in a different world. I can't help but stare in amazement at how everything is big, bright, colorful and vibrant. No matter how many times I go, the emotions I go through are probably what every young child goes through when they see the Magic Kingdom for the first time.

MK always is our first park as well.. Its the opening show.. Its that first walk down Main St where you can see your first glimpse of the castle, the CMs with Mickey Hands waiving and telling you good morning! Its the cheerful music being played on Main St.. I could just go on and on..
