I’m very pleased with Pixar’s decision to focus more on human Joe rather than little blue Joe. It’s not often that we get an African American lead in a Pixar film and I didn’t want him to spend the entire runtime as a little blob.
Also, 22’s character arc was fantastic. At first, the idea that she’s had all these mentors tell her that she’s not fit to be on Earth played out as a joke but ended up becoming a powerful aspect of her insecurities.
Joe’s character was amazing as well and has lead to his character being one of my favorite Pixar leads. I assumed this movie would be “follow your dreams” but ended up being something way more powerful and touching. I’ve seen people talk about Joe going back to Earth but I feel like he genuinely earned it and the most important part of his decision was to accept his fate in the first place.
Also, I genuinely hope that the account ends up counting as a Pixar villain because they were hilarious!
