On the movies side - I think this has been a really great year for films, maybe it's just me?

I caught up on a bunch over the last few days - Ad Astra I caught on a plane, really enjoyed it. The Irishman was great, and just watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - that was fantastic!

Plus Joker earlier this fall, Endgame, etc

Hopefully Rise of Skywalker finishes the year off well - though I'm tempting expectations

There have been some solid movies this year.

My personal favorites of the year are The Lighthouse and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Plus I thoroughly enjoyed Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, Endgame, Far From Home, and tons of others

And that just goes to show how much I haven't seen! Will probably wait for Toy Story 4 on Disney+ at this point, Frozen 2 haven't seen yet either.

My favorite movies this year include Parasite, The Lighthouse, Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood, and the delightful horror-comedy Ready or Not. I have not yet seen The Irishman or Uncut Gems, both of which I expect to love, or Frozen 2, which I expect to sit all the way through.

As for the best experiences I’ve had at the movies this year:
  • Opening night midnight screening of Endgame with everyone going berserk
  • An all-night horror movie marathon held at Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema in LA
  • Seeing a Bollywood movie (Pagal Panti) in the gorgeous Raj Mandir Theater in Jaipur, India

Those sound like amazing experiences!

The Lighthouse is now on my list - have read good things and now have two recommendations for it! Also wanted to see Us (that was this year!)

The Lighthouse is also VERY high on my list. Currently I have Parasite as my number one of the year (and a STRONG contender for my favorite film of the decade) then Marriage Story in the number two spot for just how well written and acted that film is, but after those two The Lighthouse is probably a very solid number three favorite. The experimental nature of the narrative mixed with the wonderfully surreal cinematography definitely left me with one of the most unique film experiences I've had in years, and had me randomly asking people why they had to go and spill their beans for weeks on end :p

A Disney Debate is happening on my channel at the top of the hour, and it'd be cool if ya'll could watch live and comment on who you think the winner is each round. Ya know, if ya feel like it...

Very sorry to have been so inactive this year, generally speaking. I've been incredibly busy with the podcast and my job and haven't had time for much of anything else between those two things in the last few months. I definitely want to try and follow Sorcerer's Apprentice from a spectators point of view, but most importantly just don't want to loose touch with this community. Without getting into personal details, let's just say I'm not the biggest fan of a couple members of my family right now and it's making me appreciate my online friends all the more. I think it's great that this community is still active enough to put stuff like this on in the wake of most forums dying out as social media and reddit dominate the internet landscape. Good on ya'll for keeping up a great thing! :D

I thought Us was good. Not as good as Get Out but a solid sophomore effort from Jordan Peele.

As for The Lighthouse, it was really a film I didn’t expect to adore as much as I did. It’s shot, acted, and directed so uniquely that it was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Definitely worth the watch

I think it's a shame that people aren't talking about the sound design of The Lighthouse more. From the ever present fog-horn that just chips away at your sanity just like it does the main characters, to the seagulls, wind, waves crashing...it's an utter symphony of memorable sounds and is one of the main reasons the film hit me as hard as it did. Especially that foghorn, man!

The sound mixing in this film was amazing!

For anyone curious who wants to read a non-spoiler review of The Lighthouse, here’s my review that I wrote for Letterboxd

Does nothing stay dead anymore!?
I’m guessing by your sad response @D Hindley that you have not seen The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance yet (it was a quote from the last episode in case anyone was wondering). But if I were to be serious, I would say that I was beginning to worry that you had up and left this forum; and by extent, imagineering; because of how inactive you were over these last couple of months.

Debate starting imminently. The questions are past, present, and future themed in the SPIRIT of a certain holiday classic.

Yeah, I haven't seen that yet. My sad response was meant mostly in jest. And while I haven't left this forum, up until a week ago I had left the country once again (been doing that a lot lately) for over a month in India with a brief week in Turkey on the way out. It was hugely worthwhile; a great chance to clear the head. Glad to be back, buddy!

This is all good to hear. I highly recommend watching the series if you get a chance; especially if you love fantasy or puppetry; and I hope to see what you cook up; for both the competition and solo projects like DisneySKY 2.0.

I'm soo far behind. I loved Endgame, but can't wait for Skywalker on saturday.

Besides that I have been really behind. I'm hoping I can catch a few on my flight to Korea.
