The ENDGAME draws near. We are a week out from the start of gameplay. This is a good time to remind ourselves how the game works…

Gameplay
Players will be divided into 3 different teams to start the competition. For each challenge, there will be a rotating Project Manager nominated by the Hosts. The Project Manager’s role is that of team leader. Your style of leadership can vary immensely, and as the game progresses your team’s gameplay style and rapport will become cemented.

Once the projects are submitted, the hosts & judges will provide in-depth and helpful feedback to determine the rankings. This feedback will appear one day following submissions. At this time winning and losing teams will be announced.

Guest Judges are assigned to a specific team. They provide feedback to help their team learn and grow. However, they are not involved in the hosts’ ranking decisions.

The losing team’s Project Manager in most challenges will then nominate two (2) members to enter (along with him or herself) the “Cursed Courtroom” and make their case to the judges for remaining in the hunt. (Additional underperforming players may receive a court summons at the hosts’ discretion.) As the competition progresses, players will be pared down to the finalists who will face off in an epic finale to determine the next “Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”

Vacation Days
Despite our efforts to make each challenge as accessible to contestants as possible, sometimes unavoidable Real World™ obligations can get in the way. For those circumstances, there are Vacation Days.

Every team is able to request 1-3 Vacation Days per round…of course it’s best if you have a valid reason to do this. Only one team can use Vacation Days per challenge, and when a team uses Vacation Days, the due date is extended for all teams. The exact number of Vacation Days granted will be determined later.

More simply put: If you need more time, let us know.

If anyone has further questions on how this will work, now is the time to let us know. It’s better to ask questions now than to wait for the game to start.

Later on we’ll be going over some sample gameplay from last year.

Sample Gameplay

Let’s quickly look at the first Stanza (challenge) from last year. The three teams were tasked with designing a “New Fantasyland” expansion for Disneyland Paris.

------------
In June of 2017, The Walt Disney Company acquired Euro Disney S.C.A, the operating company of the Disneyland Paris Resort, now giving full control over to Disney who pledged to invest billions to strengthen the resort. Recently, Fantasyland expansions have become popular in Disney Parks. In particular with the Enchanted Forest and New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom, the upcoming Fantasyland project at Tokyo Disneyland, and the planned Fantasyland expansion at Hong Kong Disneyland to name a few.

For this challenge, the teams will be designing a 'New Fantasyland Expansion' for Disneyland Paris.

- This proposal may include anything from refurbishments, removals, replacements, and/or other additions.
- It's an open canvas of imagination and creativity!
- One final note, @Disney Dad 3000 has received the first immunity idol in the competition. He is a finalist in the So, You Want To Be An Imagineer Season 16 competition, which is running late and finishing during this project, so he has earned the idol for his commitment to both competitions. This means if Team Brava loses, Disney Dad cannot be nominated to The Board Room. For all future rounds, the immunity idol will be granted to the winning team's Project Manager.

The hosts set up Private Message threads so that each team could privately brainstorm over the 10 days they had available. To help players who might not be familiar with Disneyland Paris, the game’s hosts provided a Program Guide full of research and information.

After 10 days of passionate Imagineering, the teams each posted their completed projects in the main thread. Let’s see what they came up with:

Stanza 1: Pines of Paris
A Team Castle Production

As part of this extensive and grand update of Fantasyland, the expansion will be released in three phases, much like Walt Disney Studios

Phase 1: Fantasmic, the Woods, Dark Ride updates, and Fantasyland Placemaking - 2021
Phase 2: Mary Poppins' Jolly Holiday, Les Contes des Feés de Belle, Cinderella, and Fantasyport placemaking - 2022
Phase 3: Fantasyport completion - 2024

Thank you,
Team Brava

You’ll see a few different presentation styles in these submissions. Team Verde simply posted their content (including images and videos) directly into the Sorcerer’s Apprentice thread. Team Castle provided a link to a team-made Google Doc (an epic 84 page barnburner). And Team Brava linked to a homemade webpage imitating Disney’s.

These are just some of the presentation styles, and players are always inventing new approaches. Each style has its own pluses and minuses, and you’ll find that what works for one challenge might not for another.

With all 3 projects posted, the hosts and guest judges provided prompt feedback. One day later, the final standings for the round were announced.

Stanza I Results

Once again thank you to everyone from all three teams to the individual reviews and all of the judges -- this is not an easy decision by any means as all of these projects have such incredible creativity to them. Nevertheless, there must be a winner, so with that said here we go for the rankings (along with the reasons why)

Team Verde
- While the other teams broke the presentation up into realistic 'phases', this team had everything, multiple E-Tickets, D-Tickets, and all, opening at the same time, which is not realistic in today's world.
- Both Castle and Brava had better teamwork and presentations. There were missed opportunities early on to take an original and dark approach that never got fleshed out while the other teams chatted back and forth passionately for days on end
- While this project had shining moments such as the brilliant artwork, Winnie the Pooh, and Hunchback, we all felt it could have been unified with a purpose. Which very much influenced the rankings as a whole.
- Don't fret! This is a non-elimination round, take everything into consideration, get off to a good start in Stanza II and these standings could easily be flipped

Team Castle
Yes, I'm sure you opened that Team Castle and were probably not satisfied. Use those aggressive feelings...and apply them to not being satisfied with throwing everything into a project making it cumbersome to read.
While you may have blown Team Brava and Verde out of the water in terms of detail, sometimes too much detail saturates the project as a whole, and that was the case here.
- Team Brava had a more unique presentation (basically designing the DLP website from scratch)
- Team Brava emphasized their purpose (30th anniversary) throughout, whereas this felt like a Disney Park fan's blue sky dream but not grounded in reality
Despite all that, if you cut out 20-30% of this project, and made it more cohesive to read...this would have been 1st. But rewarding that will set the precedent that 84 page projects are the key to winning, it isn't. That said -- watch out! - this team is gonna be hungry next round and gunning for the winner which is...

Team Brava
A purpose, an effective goal, a realistic interpretation of a New Fantasyland yet combined with the new ideas that fit specifically DLP. From the more mature Sleeping Beauty attraction, to the indoor climate controlled Winnie the Pooh for snow, even to the use of euros for the budget, all combined with 3D animation models that move, concept art that looks like it's from WDI, and an all around pursuit of the project goal, nets Brava the win.

However...this was not a runaway. Castle was very close, and to be honest Verde was hitting their stride towards the end of Stanza I, imagine them at full strength now for an entire project. Do not rest on your laurels, but for now, enjoy the win!

--------------------
You made it through Stanza I -- it seems like everyone enjoyed themselves and had fun which is what this is all about - so let's move on to Stanza II!

All 3 teams submitted exceptional proposals! In this instance, the hosts decided that no eliminations were necessary. Rather, all 3 teams progressed to Stanza II at full strength.

The idea both then and now is to encourage player growth and creativity. Hopefully this helps clarify any questions you might have about the game. Speaking for all 3 hosts, I am very excited to see what y’all come up with this season!

Remember, the game begins on January 1st!

By the way, when are teams getting announced? Jan 1st? And where do Brava and Verde come from? Isn't it Horizons?
The game will begin January 1st!

Teams (new unique non-Brava teams) will be announced tonight. At midnight WDW time. Along with extensive (and brilliant ;)) story-based preamble.

I’m hoping at least one team this year turns out to be as drunk and rowdy as Brava. :p
