I may or may not be a Lego collector of sorts and have more Lego sets than I have room to display in my house. (I’m still rebuilding sets from my move a year ago)

Because Lego sells. For the last three years it’s been the largest toy company in the world. It sells. It sells so well that until this year Lego couldn’t manufacture the amount of toys ppl wanted and their was a shortage on many set

If you have the choice of selling games were your IPs and seeking maybe a couple million copies or working and branding with Lego and selling a couple dozen million copies which option are you going to chose.
I bought that game and and even got the collectible green arrow figure. The LEGO games are among the few games with simple mechanics, enjoyable stories, and cuteness. We typically buy the new game whenever they come out (I haven’t played much of the marvel superheroes 2, but I have it! :) ), because everyone in my family enjoys playing them. You don’t have to spend hours to get into them and learn the controls. They are just - fun.

Because the game marketed itself as this giant celebration of Lego, but that's not the case when 13 out of your 30 properties are not Lego.

When I was rather little, and had just gotten back from my one and only trip across the country to Disneyland, I used my random Lego sets to recreate a lot of my favorite rides. Of course, the next logical step was for Lego Spongebob, Lego Red Power Ranger, and Lego Yoda to go on adventures through Disneyland fighting an evil giant monster Batman made of an action figure with Lego armor.

To me, "toss everything together and go crazy" is the spirit at the heart of Lego. And I don't think anything captures that as well as The Lego Movie and Lego Dimensions.
