One Little Spark...
"Note: This is where the track splits, leading to two separate last scenes and two separate unloading areas.
We are now in on top of a mountain at night overlooking a large city, where we hear a choir singing. We take off into the air once more (using the Kuka arms and motion base) and fly over the famous city of Hollywood, in the 1950s. A narrator explains the importance of a story to any movie and that as long as there is imagination left in the world, movies and films will always have a meaning behind them. (This line is inspired by Walt Disney's famous quote). We turn around and see the famous Hollywood sign on a hill behind us, lit up at night."

I'd REALLY like to see this in real life. It sounds like a fantastic indoor vista (and I'm a fan of those).

Music Pieces to help covey our Project …

Team Sea: Challenge 2

To Team Sea, Disney Studios Paris is in need of a lot of help. But, for starters, needs a base to it's recipe before adding other movie accents to make it a spectacular day park.

Today, Team Sea proposes bringing in time period of the Golden Age of Hollywood to anchor the park as a brand new "land", Sunset Way. This will "center" Disney Studios and make it less "Split up" with Animation and Live Action. Sunset Way will also celebrate the top movie genres through attractions, restaurants and shows to produce a one of a kind experience to Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris.

The Location of this amazing overhaul will take place of the Studios Tram tour entrance building, and the entire Production Courtyard. Le Théâtre d'or will be the parks new icon, with the Tram Tour and a new table service restaurant inside. Stitch Live! will be relocated to Toon Studios, as to Playhouse Disney Live on Stage, which will be moved to the Backlot. Many other buildings in the Backlot will also get a retheme, to become better transitions to the area. In it's place will be a spectacular new E-Ticket ride Called Gangsters de Hollywoodland. Celebrating Old Hollywood, Classic Gangster movies and the Wild influence on the 1920s. But to really give this overhaul a reason for guests to stay an entire dayat the Studios, We're giving Walt Disney Studios Paris a brand new nighttime Spectacular.

Sunset Way:
A new land that's fun for all ages!
ScreenShot2014-07-19at35054PM_zps7549668e.png

Horn & Hardart Automat

The buildings of Sunset Way feature many strange oddities indicative of the 1920s. Guests walking through the land will come upon a rather small building with a very large opening to enter. Above this opening hangs a series of metal letters that read “Horn & Hardart.” Entering this building, guests will find a counter service restaurant. This, however, is quite different from the normal Disney counter service. Horn & Hardart’s is an automat.

For those who may or may not know what an automat is, an automat is essentially the precursor to the vending machine. The back wall of the automat would be a series of small cubbies out of which you could pick up any kind of food they were serving. The food would be made on the premises, and placed in their respective cubby in anticipation of hungry customers. Horn & Hardart’s is exactly like this. Guests can go in, grab whatever food they desire, pay for it at a serie of counters, and either eat it there, or take it with them for a quick, mobile meal.

The inside of Horn & Hardart’s is actually quite elegant. The floor has a large checker design, made out of marble, and guests can sit in elegant wooden chairs at just as elegant wooden tables to enjoy their meal. The actual automat is made completely out of metal, with each cubby featuring a shiny brass handle to open and take food from.

Horn & Hardart’s will be an incredibly interesting experience, as automats really haven’t been popular since the ‘40s. They’re a dying breed and it would be great, both from a theming perspective and a historical perspective to open a brand new automat.

Fairbanks’

Fairbanks’ is the main store of Sunset Way. Placed in a rather large building, Fairbanks’ is modelled after some of the richer stores of Hollywood. Inside, guests will find a two floored store. The floor will be made of beautiful, white, black, and turquoise tiles, like a mosaic. In the center of the first floor sits an absolutely stunning multi-tiered fountain, made of sandstone, and done in an art deco style. The second floor only takes up about a quarter of the floorspace, and is placed near the back of the store, looking out onto the front. Wrought iron railings sit at the edge of the second floor, adding to the elegance of the store. Hanging on many of the tan walls are black and white photos from Hollywood’s golden age: behind the scenes photos, drawings of Hollywood, famous actors, and landmarks all hang around the merchandise and check out counters.

Around the store sit merchandise for both WDS, and Sunset Way. Buy pins, Vinylmations, t-shirts, plushes, and toys all for Sunset Way. Once done shopping, guests can head to the back of the store to check out at artfully crafted checkout counters, made of dark wood.

Fairbanks’ will be the shopping hub of Sunset Way, and its elegance shows this off perfectly.

Mugsy’s

Behind Gangsters of Hollywood, sits a rather decrepit-looking shack. Above the doors to it sits a shoddily-made sign reading “Mugsy’s.” Entering, guests find themselves in a black market of sorts, selling all kinds of merchandise for Gangsters of Hollywood. This merchandise is strewn about the small wooden structure, placed on crates and barrels, and hung from shoddily-made hangers. On the walls hang pictures of Mugsy and his various connections. Some pictures see him standing with Mickey Cohen, others show him sitting in a jazz club. Other pictures feature a woman, also curiously named Mugsy with other various gangsters and such. It’s a very strange place. There’s not a whole lot in it other than the merchandise and the pictures. Guests can buy tons of merchandise based off of Gangsters of Hollywood, however. Once done shopping, guests can check out at the back of the store, and continue about their day.

NOTE: The gag of some photos featuring Mugsy as a man and a woman is a reference to the Great Movie Ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In the ride, the ride vehicle is hijacked by a gangster named Mugsy. Sometimes Mugsy is a man, other times Mugsy is a woman. Just figured I’d point that out in case the gag was lost.

Le Théâtre d'or : A Fresh new start to the Studios.

ScreenShot2014-07-23at91442PM_zpscba959b4.png

When your car turns around, the guests will see the inside of some classy buildings, and things start to get a little wild, seeing inside of speakeasies and wild flapper parties and start to go into the Hollywood underbelly. You then see an old cop directing traffic, one car going down one street, another the other way. This is where the car routes split into two, providing two different guest experiences before the finale…

ht_Bar_081027_main.jpg

First Option - The Liquor Switch

A shady gangster nearby "hid some liquor" in the guests ride vehicle, as guests here a "Drive as fast as you can" from the gangster, they start to hear sirens. The gangster laughs in the background and the guests drive down dark roads fast with their car jerking back and fourth, and even encountering a drop, while being chased by cops.

Second Option - The Gangster Getaway

We Start to go deeper into darker areas of hollywood, where we see mobsters meet and sneak around the area. Gangsters have the guests surrounded in the ally as the leader asks for the guests belongings and valuables. With the guests turning the offer down, the car soon takes a personality of it's own, speeding and turning down dark roads and plummeting down darker into the underbelly.

Lookout Gangster: Têtes! Frankie semble que nous avons de la compagnie!

Frankie: Laissez-les en!

(Warehouse Door Opens)

Frankie: Donnez-moi tous vos orchidées et de argent!

(Cars Engine Revs in Reply)

Car gets a personality of its own.

Frankie: Oubliez-les! Apportez Syd à à la endroit.

Finale

Both car options slow down and take a scenic drive, when things get to quiet, guests are thrown into a fight between two rival mobster groups in Hollywood.

gangster-concept-art_0.jpg

Rita: Où est Syd? Frankie.

Syd: Rita!

Frankie: Calmez en bas Syd. Donc Rita comment allez-vous?

(Rita shoots)

(Frankie shoots)

(Shoot out begins)

The guests narrowly escape when they start to see drunk gangsters just shooting inside a warehouse for the fun of it…

Gangster #1: Prenez ça!

(Shoots)

Gangster #2: Vous avez manqué!

(Shoots)

Gangster #1: Vous avez manqué aussi!

(Shoots)

Gusts pass by window and when it thunders it shows Frankie on the floor lifeless.

You turn a corner and exit the warehouse where you see Syd and Rita sitting next to each other on top of a crate. The vehicle stops where Syd and Rita start to speak.

Syd: Vous ne dites rien, vous entendez!

Rita: Pas un mot!

Rita shoots a stop light and Syd and Rita kiss.

As guests are brought back to the load unload station…

Exit Speil –

Syd: Keep yourself in the jalopy till it stops completely.

Rita: Gardez-vous dans le tacot jusqu'à ce qu'il s'arrête complètement.

Hollywood Bowl : A new show building built for a daytime and a nighttime show.

Rising up out of the back of Sunset Way is a Hollywood legend. As one of the most famous buildings in Hollywood lore, and possibly being one of the most famous outdoor theatres, The Hollywood Bowl has welcomed guests such as Monty Python, Simon and Garfunkel, and even President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to its famed stage. Of course, us at Team Sea thought that we couldn’t have a proper Hollywood without one of the real city’s staples. And thus we present to you Walt Disney Studios’ Hollywood Bowl.

This scale recreation of the famed venue sits towards the back of what will become Sunset Way. It will be just a bit smaller than the original, as there really isn’t enough space to facilitate an exact replica of the Hollywood Bowl, seats and all. The theatre will fit about 4,500 guests, all sitting out side, similarly to Fantasmic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The other only real difference would be a very large elevator lift for use during the nighttime show. There will be both a daytime and nighttime show, with the nighttime show finally giving WDS a proper nighttime spectacular.

Mary Poppins : A new Daytime Show
In all of Disneyland Paris, there is no trace of a Mary Poppins attraction or show.

Until now. Sunset Way's Hollywood Bowl will bring a spectacular showing of the classic Mary Poppins film, in a condensed musical of the Broadway version.

Water features, (Similar to World of Color's Just Add Water show during the Day) will act as a "pre-show" of sorts to this event…

City Lights: A New Nighttime show
ScreenShot2014-07-23at91432PM_zps6abdf35d.png

City Lights: The Sounds and Sights of Hollywoodland

City Lights will truly be the most unique nighttime spectacular at any Disney park. Though simple in design compared to other Disney shows, there is one difference that will set this from the rest: The Walt Disney Studios Orchestra.

Yes, a live 50 piece orchestra will play almost nightly to a crowd of 4,500, bringing them on a 17 minute journey through the history of Hollywood. Accompanying the orchestra will be a state of the art lighting system, as well as images projected on water screens similarly to Fantasmic and World of Color. These water screens will come from a rather large pond that sits directly in front of the Bowl, separating the stage from the audience. This pond will also hold a few water fountains as well to be used at certain parts during the show. Anyway, the show!

At 9:00 each night, guests will hear an announcement welcoming them to City Lights. As the lights go down, guests will be able to hear the faint sounds of the orchestra warming up. The sound gets louder as they ascend to the stage by way of the aforementioned elevator system. As the elevator stops, the conductor will raise his/her baton and the music will begin in a flash. A literal flash. Quick bright flash as the water screens rise and the orchestra begins the shows overture, combining multiple movie, and cartoon themes. The first part of the show, lasting about 3 minutes, will show guests a few of the most iconic films of Hollywood’s golden age. For simplicity, here’s a quick rundown of the films and themes featured, in no particular order, other than the first film listed:

.Ben-Hur - 1959

.Gone with the Wind - 1939

.Modern Times - 1936

.Casablanca - 1942

.Citizen Kane - 1940

.Lawrence of Arabia - 1962

Following this, the orchestra will stop, allowing the audience to clap. As they prepare for the next piece, the water screens will change to show the ocean. As this happens, an accordionist will come to the stage, playing “Whale of a Tale” from “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” The ocean is still calm as half of the orchestra joins the accordionist in the jaunty piece. Suddenly, however, there is a rumbling in the water. The Nautilus quickly pops out of the water as the other half of the orchestra orchestra bursts with the main theme of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. That’s right. This is an adventure montage, lasting about 4-5 minutes including the “Whale of a Tale” segment. Again, the track list in no particular order (Not including 20k.)

.Raiders of the Lost Ark - 1981

.The Searchers - 1956

.Star Wars - 1977

.Captain Blood - 1935

.The Goonies - 1985

The Goonies section will end the piece, and the camera will once again dip underwater, from the pirate ship set from The Goonies. The orchestra doesn’t have a chance to stop as immediately following this, Marlin and Dory pop up on the screen, yelling Nemo’s name. The orchestra begins to play music from Finding Nemo, as Marlin and Dory continue to scramble to find Nemo. Suddenly, they are sucked up out of frame, and the orchestra quickly begins to play “Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride” from Lilo and Stitch. As Lilo and Stitch surf, Marlin and Dory can be seen popping up over the waves behind them, trying to grab Lilo and Stitch’s attention as they try to find Nemo. Both Lilo and Stitch surf away, blissfully unaware, and Marlin and Dory are sucked into a pipe. The scene quickly changes again to Beauty and the Beast. The orchestra slows down as they begin to play the film’s eponymous song. As Belle and the Beast waltz through the castle’s gigantic ballroom, Marlin and Dory can be seen, somehow finding themselves in a pitcher of water. The pitcher, of course, is alive standing with Mrs. Potts as she sings “Beauty and the Beast.” Faintly, guests can hear Marlin and Dory call for help, eventually flopping their way out of the pitcher and into Chip, who is now freaking out that he is now carrying two fish. As he stumbles, Mrs. Potts, still singing, notices the commotion and tries to help, now struggling to keep singing. In the struggle, Marlin and Dory are flung from Chip, and out an open window, into a small stream. The screens go black and the music stops. Suddenly, the orchestra, beginning softly, quickly falls into the iconic theme from “Steamboat Willie.” Marlin and Dory yell for help. Mickey, who notices them, comes down from the wheelhouse, and tells the pair of lost fish that he thinks he can help them as he remembers seeing a lost fish not too long ago. Suddenly, guests can hear Nemo as he rushes upstream to Marlin and Dory. Reunited, Mickey laughs and says that he has a treat for all the guests too.

The orchestra quickly shifts to playing the Mickey Mouse Club theme as Mickey, dressed in a tailcoat, comes on stage. Using the relatively new technology to make a character’s mouth move, Mickey informs guests that there is so much more to Hollywood than just the movies. He politely asks the conductor if he can take the podium. Taking the podium, Mickey begins conducting the orchestra in a rendition of “Hooray for Hollywood.” The orchestra starts off very slowly, utilizing mostly woodwinds, as the screen shows stills from Hollywood’s early days: The Hollywoodland sign, some of the early studios, The Chinese Theatre, and even the first Disney Studios. More instruments are added as the music picks up, sending guests on a chronological journey through Hollywood, showing the Mary Poppins premiere, Star Wars premiere, backlots, The Hollywood Brown Derby, visuals from the Academy Awards - just everything that’s indicative of Hollywood. Towards the end of the montage, the music picks up to its full speed as fireworks begin to launch from behind the stage, timing perfectly with the music. These fireworks, coupled with the fountains and projections, create an incredible image. It truly is a sight to behold; a celebration of the films, settings, and people of Hollywood. As the song reaches its climax, the music stops for a second as Mickey turns around and gives his iconic goodbye “See ya real soon.” The orchestra then finishes the song as the stage descends out of view.

City Lights will truly be one of the most unique experiences at any Disney park solely because of its live orchestra. I would also like to note that though the show may seem disjointed, I can assure you that it is intentional. In having a live orchestra, our plan is to make it so portions of the show can be changed on a fairly regular basis. Holiday shows could be done extremely easily, and there would be an incredible amount of variety as well, meaning that you won’t necessarily see the same show each time you go to WDS.

One final note is that there will also be hard ticket events. For a fee, you could join the Walt Disney Studios Orchestra as they play “Fantasia” live, with full lighting, and images projected on the water screens. It would truly be an experience to remember, and an experience that can only be found at the Walt Disney Studios.

Thank you for reading.

As a closing statement, we think Team Sea's proposal for Walt Disney Studios Paris may not be a Marvel or an Oz land to draw guests, or even a Great Movie Ride, but a nice mixture of popular, high grossing films in France and famous film settings to send guests to the Studios Park, while making a heart to the park so future attractions and entertainment can lean on this as a basis. Not only are we making guests stay for shows, rides, and nighttime entertainment, but we're also giving the park a start to a new leaf, with a new park icon and new additions to atmospheres and the classic Studio Tram Tour: Behind the Magic attraction. Just like DCA shot in attendance records during and after it's makeover, this could be the same start for the Walt Disney Studios.

Nous souhaitons les deux équipes bonne chance et ne pouvons pas attendre de voir leur propositions ce soir!

Reading through this right now. Looks great so far!

"To help fill out the area and give guests more to do in this park (which needs rides desperately), our team also created a C-ticket attraction: Laboratoire d'Effets Spéciaux (Special Effects Lab).'

Obviously, we over at Team Air had the same thought with Agents of SHIELD.

"In the theater is a magic show which is performed at different times throughout the day. The show is made up of classic large-scale illusions, and the magician demonstrates how they play a big role in special effects. He/she even shows the audience how to do a few tricks for themselves."

A LIVE magic show!!!!

<claps like an excited little boy>

I really miss the magic shop from Main Street in Magic Kingdom. Still there in Disneyland, as I recall, but seeing those live tricks is just loads of fun.

And finishing out my comments for Team Land before moving on to Team Sea, wow!

First, the food sounds great (yeah, I'm a fatty, and I like food, which is why I like restaurant challenges!)

But, great concept, excellent presentation. It was smooth and easy to read, and I actually read it a few times (this is my third readthrough I'm making these comments during)...

Formatting was good, the pictures worked perfectly, I loved your custom artwork and your map.

GREAT JOB!

The ONLY thing that bothered me was your use of kuka arms...

It sounds more like what you really meant was articulated hydraulic cylinders? The arms would be severaly hampered due to the base of your ride vehicle, and really couldn't be put to good use. I SUPPOSE they could work, but I'm not really sure if the kuka arm is the correct engineering application here.

Or I could be missing something?

Team Sea... wow!

Artwork is beautiful, ride is well thought out, and City Lights sounds EPIC (that might be my favorite part)!

The new park icon looks good too!

I do have one TINY qualm. The challenge was primarily about the E-ticket, and I feel you may have gone too much into detail elsewhere instead of focusing on that. For instance, I don't think a full menu was necessary.

But don't get me wrong, it's really great.
