On behalf of @IDInstitute, here's Recondite Adventure!
-=+=-
The seas have been a mystery since the beginning. Man has told stories, created legends, and always dreamed about what could lie beneath the waters. Throughout many advancements and discoveries of the lands of the planet, and even into outer space, one place that we still remains a mystery is what the seas truly hold. Maybe someday, man will explore to find this. Maybe...
tomorrow...

Episode 7 Immunity Challenge-
Submarine Sacrifice
@IDInstitute Presents:
Recondite Adventure
When Submarine Voyage closed forever on September 9th, 1998, Tony Baxter was quoted in saying, "This is one of the worst days of my life". And, he was not alone in this feeling. Many die-hard Disney fans who have experienced Submarine Voyage were crushed that such an amazing, classic attraction was to be discontinued.
Its eventual replacement kept the die-hard's emotions in sight, but Finding Nemo Submarine voyage just was not the same. Like we fear Disney is doing with all new attractions these days, it simply forced a character tie-in when it did not help the attraction at all.
Now, a new attraction is called for. Saving both the future of Disneyland, as well as faith in the die-hards of what Disney still can do, a new classic is going to be designed for this plot. While it doesn't use the same technology or track as the former attractions, it still keeps the theme of exploring the seas, which is too valuable to pass up. This new ride is...The Recondite Adventure.
Backstory
The name recondite adventure means an adventure to someplace little known and mysterious. As the sea always remains mysterious to many, this is the name of an organization formed in 1971 by Captain Bruce and a few other nautical friends, wanting to see what is out there. This caught on by many. Funding for a way to explore was provided as "seas-fever" spread across the world. Suddenly, everyone was curious about what secrets can be explored at the depths of the oceans. Finally, after years of preparation and planning, the adventure was ready. However, the mission team includes you.
Location
This attraction only takes up the same former plot of Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.
Facade/Building
Because this ride relies more on show scenes than the submarine aspect, the mountain structure (show building) is extended farther out than how far it currently lies.
This extended part of the show building is themed to sea-side rocks like the current structure. Along the outside of it, in the area between the guests walkway and rock building, will have water filled into it to theme it to the ocean. A a simple Imagineering trick of darkening the floor of the area will make it seem like the water is much deeper than it actually is.
The last part of the facade is the entrance. Like the current one, it is not very grand, but it will have theming that crosses nautical with Tomorrowland futuristic, to really set up the mission. The monorail line will cleverly act as the archway.
Queue
As there isn't very much space in this location, the queue will be rather simple, but will make good use of what space is there, and greatly improve the current queue.
While currently it is a simple, concrete, back-and-forth line, this replacement will try to fix that. First, the boring concrete will be replaced with "aged" wood, to theme the area and make it look like an old dock. Also, simple chain lines will be replaced with more permanent looking (and better themed) poles and handles.
That is just the first part of the queue however. After a walk along the dock, before loading, you enter a room. It is like a marina shop and office, except holding much more technologically advanced tools. Different things can be seen such as compasses and maps, however also different equipment that guests don't quite understand their purpose, but are interesting. This room is not very large, but it is that last part of the queue before entering into the loading area.
The loading area is just outside the building, back on the dock. A Cast Member instructs you to enter your vehicle, and keep your hands, arms, feet, and legs inside at all times, and wishes you good luck on the pilgrimage.
Vehicles
The ride vehicles, called SeaDrivers, here resemble a cross between the submarines and Spiderman-style ride vehicles.
They fit 12 people, 4 per row, and have a very unique feature. During the departure scene (read below for more details), when the vehicles "dive underwater", a glass roof slides out from the back over the guests to give the submarine sensation, but with a more unique ride technology. This retractable roof and scene will be explained more as you read on. Lastly, while they are not boats, their design makes it appear that they are floating on the water in some scenes rather than a track.

Ride Experience
Scene 1- The Departure: As guests board their SeaDrivers, their vehicle seems to be floating in the bay. As they continue down a quick path on the sea, they reach a cave. This is when the retractable, glass roof expands and closes over the riders, covering the vehicle, and it dives down into the water (really just a dip in the track, with a mist and waterfall effect to make it seem as if they are diving into the ocean). To help this effect, it is dark so they cannot fully make out the outside beyond the water rushing past the glass covering of the vehicle, and audio effects play water and bubble sounds. In reality, they are hardly moving down at all.
Image from original Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. This dive into the cave and water will be similar to the departure in Scene 1.
Inside the SeaDriver, guests hear through radio Captain Bruce (think in an Australian accent) communicating to the guests about the mission.
"Ah, hello there fellow sea adventurers! I'm glad you could make it to this journey, it's going to be incredible what we'll see! All of the mysteries will be solved, and we will see the majesty, danger, and everything in between first hand! Right now, we are diving hundreds of miles per hour down to the depths of the sea! At the bottom, you're SeaDrivers will make it to us at a research facility set up, where we can explore and study the sea! We'll see you soon!"
Scene 2- The Bottom: Soon after the audio message finishes, the diving simulation comes to a stop. A screen in front of each row gives statistics of how deep they are and their geographical location. At the bottom, lights on the show set flash, and you can now make out what looks like an underwater research facility. Doors open, and your vehicle rides through into a draining room, where water appears to drain away. The second pair of doors then open, into the facility.
Scene 3- The Research Facility: Entering into the room, the retractable roof now releases, and you are out in "fresh air" again. However, you are really very deep into the ocean. You see a few animatronic scientists to the side working. Different equipment and work tools lie are seen in the room. The biggest draw however is a giant glass window that looks out into the ocean. Different mystical-looking fish can be seen swimming about, using similar screen technology that enables guests to see the Finding Nemo characters in Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, as well as The Seas With Nemo and Friends. In addition, out there is different types of undersea plant life, coral, and rock formations. Soon, the audio starts up again.
"Welcome, adventurers! I'm glad you can make it down! I'm sure you are wondering how we got here in the first place though. As a matter of fact, this facility was set up above ground and set here, so we still have a lot of exploring to do! Keep going, and take a look around the bottom of the sea. As you can tell, it sure looks different down here. It's majestic and beautiful...but also dangerous"
Scene 4- The Sea: This scene is very similar to the previous. Here, you enter a separate, darker room, and the vehicles turn towards the glass walls, where you can look out towards the ocean to look at all of the different life forms and natural formations are out there. Many are similar to the picture above. However, many of them have some different fish animatronics and projections, as well as differently colored coral, rocks, and plants that make it look very mystical. This is a very beautiful show scene, and one that really makes the ride incredible and fun for the family.
Scene 5- The Expedition: The audio returns on towards the end of scene four:
"Well, what do you think? The sea is a real beauty, eh? Well, we here know there is still so much more out there than just what we observed here. So, here's the mission. Your SeaDriver is about to go out into the waters. It will be dark out there, and we don't know what dangers await you. So, we have the vehicles
equipped to prepare, but be careful. A sea camera will be recording everything in light, and it should be auto piloted. So, your only job is to man the ship and help defend for trouble. Good luck...Off you go!"
This is when guests enter another room. It is dark, and has a door that looks like the initial set of doors guests traveled through to enter. The retractable glass roof covers the vehicle and travelers again, and the doors open. Suddenly, a water effect rushes over the vehicles, the water and bubbles audio plays again, and it's time to explore the sea.
Scene 6- Out in the Sea: This scene is almost completely dark in the ocean. Guests can make out faint figures of coral, rocks, plant, and fish, but not much. The vehicle starts going faster through the waters, and to simulate a crazier adventure, there are mini hills in the track to add to bumpy and roughness (However, not so much like in DINOSAUR, but so like in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh to make it more family-friendly).
The radio comes on again.
"Are you guys doing well? What is the report?"
Guests can make out that there are other sounds coming from the line, but the radio starts getting very statically. Soon, only static sounds can be heard, before the radio completely shuts off leaving guests to themselves.
As the SeaDriver keeps traveling forward, more light starts to emit into the area, and guests can make out a creature up ahead.
At first, it looks like a shark, but it turns out to be something else. Some type of...monster...nothing that ever even seemed to be recorded by humans before. It looks threatening, and it starts to come near the vehicle. Alerts in the vehicle start going off, "Abort Mission!", but there is no radio and no way to contact the facility.
The monster, which is really a large, advanced animatronic knocks the vehicle around, and as it got darker, it's hard to tell what is going on. The vehicle then says "Activating Final Weapon", and suddenly, all that is seen from around you is smoke and mist effects, and the sound of a screeching monster.
Scene 7- The Return: After the smoke and mist dissipates, guests find that they have made it back to the facility.
"Wow! That was quite incredible! And, a very close call. Well, what can I tell ya', we had no idea what we'd be faced with on this adventure, as all beauty comes with danger. However, despite that, this footage obtained is going to be groundbreaking in terms of understanding the seas, and it was thanks to you! Great job on our mission! You will now be sent back up to the surface, and thank you for your help!"
Finally, guests travel up a small incline and out through another hole in the cave, using similar effects as the first time. However, on the way, the video screens in front of guests show images and video of the adventure that was recorded by them, as well as an "on-ride" photo.
The SeaDrivers go to the unload dock, and that concludes the ride.
In sum, this new, incredible experience is going to be a new classic, which all generations can truly enjoy together, instead of targeting one demographic. Recondite Adventure has the thrills and "edu-tainment" that is thrived for in a ride, in a very "Living Seas"-esque manner. Thank you for reading my proposal, and never stop wanting to explore!
