The Skyliner needs paint.

I agree that they should be a different color than what they are. I understand paint on galvanized steel doesn't work, but they could've used a different material. The color could have been picked to match the background. Disney normally does a very good job of this. I'm surprised they left these 'unfinished'.

Gold and Radium (one shiny in the daylight, the other glows at night. "Unfinished"? No, just not with a finish that you can identify or want.

"El Gran Magnifico"

No. Cause if they paint them, my AP goes up $30. I'll take the industrial steel look. Wonder why they didn't go with "Disney Go Away Green" though.

Just thinking that if they were painted, many of the ones that are in the open areas like across the water would stand out much more. One of the complaints that was brought up when they started building the towers was how much they stood out of place and were eyesores. I agree those in the resort areas where it is themed, might fit better esthetically dressed up.

A few things....

All things being equal, Disney had two options. (They might not have had any as this is an off the shelf system) Galvanized or some form of paint.

Paint would look better to start, but there would be a near-endless cycle of repainting to not only keep the appearance up but to keep the supports from corroding. Given that parts of these towers are mechanical systems that you most like don't want to indiscriminately hit with a paint sprayer and that a number of them are located in less than ideal locations for regular access, regularly painting them would be a daunting task.

There is also the issue of when you paint. Painting outside at night in Florida when dew is settling on ever surface the moment the temperature begins to drop is doable, but not exactly ideal. That potentially forces you to paint during the day which means downtime for a system that needs to be up and running 365 days a year.

Being galvanized is largely a one and done deal where you only really have to repair physical damage to the coating.

Given those two options, I would lean towards galvanization as the better one.

If you are going to do any type of work in a body of water in the state of Florida, it is preferable to work during the day. The reason is you can see the 🐊🐊🐊 alligators swim around you and you can see it approach. At night, you just barely see his beady eyes only before he strikes at you and you become his midnight snack.

The "go away gray" paint makes it look like there are no support poles at all.......who needs support poles in Disney?

not these Skyliners

From the ground they blend in with the sky better than paint and at night, well it's night. As far as native ivy on the towers kudzo comes to mind. (hope I spelled it right)

What a beyond bizarre thing to write.
And you posted this even though there were already two other posters who echoed the comment.

They don't paint the monorail pylons and I have never heard anyone complain about that....
Logic - the remedy for vapid negativity.

They're galvanized and they don't need paint. You might want paint but that is another issue.
I doubt PP even "wanted" paint; more likely PP just want to complain about something.

Just an imaginative thought on my end. Would these look good with Ivy or some sort of other native plant growing off of them? Would this even be possible? I'm sure there is some sort of feasibility and added cost issue associated with it. But just a thought.
Even if there was a way, I would guess that certain people would condemn the decision citing how that compromises the integrity of the poles long-term, etc. Some are always ready with a second-guessing criticism regardless of the situation.

I have a feeling that after people go back home they’ll totally forget about the galvanized towers.
I have a feeling that the vast majority of people never had a second-thought about the galvanized towers in the first place.

Find something new to complain about.
Or don't. Challenge yourself to adopt a new attitude, one within which you are not continually seeking something to second-guess. Reserve complaining for things that (a) no one else likes, either; and (b) other destinations do much better.

Watch you shine.

This is why American didn't paint their MD80s. It saves on weight, saves on maintenance and just works better.

Leave them bare. Find something new to complain about.

The polished aluminum looked better, too.

They also didn't update the MD-80 livery with the rest of the fleet in 2013, because the AA Group knew they were going to be putting them to pasture in a few years. As much as I disliked AA's Super 80, it was a treat seeing them in the old, iconic livery when the rest of fleet had the uninspired, updated livery. 🤩
