I think a Classic Disney channel would be great! They could show a lot of the "classic" cartoons and also all the old live action shows too, like Davey Crockett, Zorro and all the nature series.

no crap, how much does vh1classic cost to put on the air -- peanuts -- or less.

I don't think Mickey needs additional film credits to keep his position. It may be subtle, but you can't be near any Disney park without constant subtle reminders. All those hidden Mickeys and not hidden Mickey logos, you still don't see Stitch waving goodnight :lookaroun.

As for film and John Lassiter...I find it funny that with all this talk of CA and 3D that he is enamoured with 2D. I would expect a major 2D release from him within 18 months...

There are multiple collections of Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Chip and Dale, etc. shorts now available on DVD, and Toon Disney still airs House of Mouse. Mickey is also highly visible in just about every aspect of products and services, from TV and video to coloring books, toys, games and everything in between. The only reason a child wouldn't know who Mickey is would be a result of how much he or she is exposed to by his or her parents. The OP has nothing to worry about, and if you want to share more Mickey with your little ones, it's entirely up to you.
No need to panic.
I wouldn't expect any new hand-drawn animated features in a theatrical release from Disney in less than 3-5 years, which is the average length of production for that kind of a film. John Lasseter could certainly greenlight a 2-D production within a year, but even his magical powers are subject to the realities of time and space.

I was just reading the 2005 annual report magazine (has Pirates 2 on the cover), and it says that one of the shows in production for 2006 is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Are you a stockholder? Did you just receive the annual report? I haven't gotten mine yet.

I think House of Mouse is a great show. I always thought they should make a Fantasmic like movie with a bunch of the characters from all the movies in one show. That would be pretty awesome.

I'm not worried that kids won't know who Mickey is. I don't think it'll ever get to that point. I DO wish the Disney Channel would have more Mickey though and bring back some of the awesome old shows Duck Tales, Tale Spin, Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck. It makes me sad they aren't around anymore and you can't get them on DVD. Speaking of which, does anyone have videos or pictures of the old show where Mickey's Toontown Fair used to be that had all these characters on one stage show. I remember someone getting locked in a vault or safe and Launchpad, Scrooge and others were trying to get them out. It was my favorite show! What was it called?

What about the old show Ink & Paint Club? (I know Cartoon network had a similar one on a few years back so I sometimes confused the names.. Late Night Black & White)

I LOVED watching both shows for the old cartoons. It's a big peeve of mine that Disney Channel is now the Tween channel 90% of the time with the exception of Playhouse Disney. LOL I have no problem with Playhouse Disney. If i'm awake late enough into the early morning, I've been known to watch Bear in the Big Blue House :lookaroun .

I really think Disney needs to create Disney Channel Classic (VH1 did it!) and run the old cartoons & programs on there.

personally, I would have to agree. Mickey is the reason I feel so good when I go to disneyworld. When I THINK about Disneyworld. When you see those mouse ears. When you hear his voice again for the first time in a while. If kids dont even know who is talking, I pray for them.

They did. Then they just killed everything on it and now play Recess and Brandy & Mr. Whiskers reruns. (coughToonDisneycough)

I think a major step forward is with the new DVD sets (the single DVDs, not the 'Classic Tins'). I only have 'Chip and Dale' right now, but they truly typify what makes these characters so special.

On a side note, after eating a huge dinner at Boma, I sat down in the AKL lobby to see a cartoon I hadn't seen since i was maybe 8. It was the gang on a beach 'picnic' of sorts, and I can tell you I will never forget that night. It was the metaphorical 'icing'.
