Trip Report The Rain Never Bothered Us Anyway - June 2024

Hi! We're back and I'm sort of settled back into our routine, so I thought I would try to get started on this report. There were lots of ups and downs, but we had a good trip! And as my title suggests, the torrential rain and flooding they were calling for did not happen and we were not bothered by the rain that did happen! I'm going to start with some general thoughts in this first post before jumping into the actual trip, so please bear with me.

I really struggled this trip, and not just the way you would think I would and definitely not just the way I thought I would. It was definitely hard going back without Lily, but I really struggled physically this time too. I've always been blessed with a good metabolism and have stayed pretty much the same weight I was in high school (things just shifted a little after having kids), but I'm going to be honest here and tell you all that I've been pretty lazy and sedentary since Lily's accident and we haven't had the best eating habits. Combine that with the hormone changes that happened almost like a light switch went off when I turned 50, and I'm carrying 15 more pounds than I am used to. My legs and feet hurt like they never have before on a Disney trip! By the end of our 5th day, my left ankle and foot were swollen and the top of my foot looked like I was getting the "Disney crud" on it. I wore the same shoes on our first day that I have always worn on Disney trips and that I wore all weekend in Des Moines and have never had any issues with, but I had pretty bad blisters on my left foot by the end of our first day. Luckily, I had plenty of blister band aids and such and was able to treat them and not have them give me much issue. I was just not able to tolerate the heat like I used to be able too either! All of this was very frustrating to me.

My heart was literally breaking the first day watching Owen struggle. He and Lily were so close, and he thought he would be ok, but he really wasn't. He was almost crying in the lobby of CBR first thing when we got there. Then later that day, as we talked about the schedule for the week, he commented that he wasn't planning on swimming when we were at Typhoon Lagoon. He and Lily always hung out together in the wave pool and lazy river at the water parks. I asked before scheduling the After Hours at TL and he was excited about it. Just not when it came right down to it. He did end up enjoying his time there with Logan, but, man, it was hard watching him work through it.

But you know what was the hardest part? I never would have thought of this ahead of time, but the first time they asked how many in our party and I had to stop myself from saying 5 and say 4. It hurt every single time I had to say that.

Not gonna lie, I did cry a little on the plane on the way down, but once I got myself under control again, there was a rainbow outside the window. It was hard to catch with the camera, but it was definitely there! It made me stop and smile.

Our original plan was to leave the room about 6:00 to head to TL, but it rained from about 4:30 on, so we decided to wait a little longer. We finally left about 7:00 because the rain had mostly stopped. However, this was the view from the bus to Disney Springs:

It wasn't looking promising! It continued to rain as we transferred to the TL bus at DS, but it stopped just as we were arriving at Typhoon Lagoon and stayed clear the rest of the evening!

We stopped here to pick up towels and ended up making a couple of purchases as well.

We went to the far side of the wave pool and found chairs to claim for the evening.

I was worried that Owen wasn't going to enjoy this evening after he said he wasn't going to swim, but he and Logan went off together to ride the slides and ended up in the wave pool and the lazy river. They met back up with me and Brian periodically throughout the night. I feel like it was really good for them to have the time alone together and brought them closer together. Brian was in the wave pool initially while I walked around getting pictures.

Here was the clear sky once we got settled in our seats:

I was so grateful the rain cleared off. We would have done it in the rain, but it was much better without it! Then I started wandering.

At some point, I returned to the chairs and Brian joined me in my tour around the park taking pics.

I liked the special floats they had in the lazy river. They also had a Kevin one, sparkly ones, and multiple other characters.

Brian and I made one loop around the lazy river, but didn't do any of the slides. I never had any intention to and Brian just wanted Logan and Owen to continue to bond. I sent Brian to get snacks for us.

Logan and Owen showed up right as Brian came back with the ice cream, so they went to get some themselves. Then they went to get popcorn and drinks. Then I think they went back for more ice cream! Then they went off on their own again for a little while. We rounded them up about 10:30 so we could try to beat the crowds to the busses and miss the post drone show rush at Disney Springs.

We accomplished both and were back at CBR in no time flat. The only thing that bothered me was that once we got to DS, they made us go all the way around the barrier thing to then head back to the busses. You would think that they could have made an opening for us to head directly to the busses knowing we were coming from Typhoon Lagoon. Oh well, just a minor annoyance! I definitely think this event was worth the money even though Brian and I didn't really partake in many of the attractions.

Those are cute! (It's been years since I've been to Typhoon Lagoon, and I recall that the floats were all the basic same color, back then.) Wondering if these more decorative floats are standard now, or if they were only brought out for after hours parties, special events, etc.

June 15 - Epcot

I wasn't originally planning to purchase Genie + for this day, but then they announced the closure of Test Track and I wanted us to be sure to get one last ride in since we would be there, so I caved and purchased it. I was quicker for the VQ this morning.

Then I got a LL for Test Track and an ILL for Guardians for around the same time. It just so happened that our boarding group got called at that time as well, so we did all 3 in one shot mid-morning. We had a quick snacky type breakfast in the room prior to leaving.

I love the convenience of the skyliner to Epcot! We had no line at CBR to get on and hardly a line at IG to get in.

Not too bad for position in line.

The line started moving a little bit early and it was literally a rat race getting there. I don't know why everyone can't just move in an orderly fashion!! And lots of shoving to park strollers and then get back in line with the family.

It was a cute ride! I'm pretty sure we missed a chunk of it though because we sat in a little nook looking at a blank wall for awhile! I asked if the boys wanted me to ask about it, but they said no and that they didn't need to ride it again.
