Trip Report The Rain Never Bothered Us Anyway - June 2024

Hi! We're back and I'm sort of settled back into our routine, so I thought I would try to get started on this report. There were lots of ups and downs, but we had a good trip! And as my title suggests, the torrential rain and flooding they were calling for did not happen and we were not bothered by the rain that did happen! I'm going to start with some general thoughts in this first post before jumping into the actual trip, so please bear with me.

I really struggled this trip, and not just the way you would think I would and definitely not just the way I thought I would. It was definitely hard going back without Lily, but I really struggled physically this time too. I've always been blessed with a good metabolism and have stayed pretty much the same weight I was in high school (things just shifted a little after having kids), but I'm going to be honest here and tell you all that I've been pretty lazy and sedentary since Lily's accident and we haven't had the best eating habits. Combine that with the hormone changes that happened almost like a light switch went off when I turned 50, and I'm carrying 15 more pounds than I am used to. My legs and feet hurt like they never have before on a Disney trip! By the end of our 5th day, my left ankle and foot were swollen and the top of my foot looked like I was getting the "Disney crud" on it. I wore the same shoes on our first day that I have always worn on Disney trips and that I wore all weekend in Des Moines and have never had any issues with, but I had pretty bad blisters on my left foot by the end of our first day. Luckily, I had plenty of blister band aids and such and was able to treat them and not have them give me much issue. I was just not able to tolerate the heat like I used to be able too either! All of this was very frustrating to me.

My heart was literally breaking the first day watching Owen struggle. He and Lily were so close, and he thought he would be ok, but he really wasn't. He was almost crying in the lobby of CBR first thing when we got there. Then later that day, as we talked about the schedule for the week, he commented that he wasn't planning on swimming when we were at Typhoon Lagoon. He and Lily always hung out together in the wave pool and lazy river at the water parks. I asked before scheduling the After Hours at TL and he was excited about it. Just not when it came right down to it. He did end up enjoying his time there with Logan, but, man, it was hard watching him work through it.

But you know what was the hardest part? I never would have thought of this ahead of time, but the first time they asked how many in our party and I had to stop myself from saying 5 and say 4. It hurt every single time I had to say that.

Not gonna lie, I did cry a little on the plane on the way down, but once I got myself under control again, there was a rainbow outside the window. It was hard to catch with the camera, but it was definitely there! It made me stop and smile.

As we got close to our stop, we realized there was a bus already there, so we mustered the energy to jog/fast walk to be sure we made it on. We did! And still had to wait a few minutes before leaving.

I must have been truly done since I didn't take any pics once we got back to CBR. I know we filled our mugs and everyone else napped while I read for a little while. Our boarding group was finally called at 2:00 which was not too long after we got back to the rooms, but no one was upset at that point. Later, I decided to see what would happen if I cancelled our BG. I was then able to join the 1:00pm VQ which was still open. We got group 189, I believe, at that point.

We had a 5:15 ADR at 'Ohana with Kelly(used to be on the boards here) and Tracey Sutton. We left the room at about 3:45 and the skies were not looking pretty. We took a bus to MK and then monorailed to the Polynesian.

I loved this bus:

I was so busy chick chatting with Kelly that I didn't take any pics of the restaurant or most of the food! The bartender made me an Island Sunset even though they are no longer on the menu and it was delicious!!
IMG_4806.JPG

And I managed to get a blurry pic of dessert!
IMG_4807.JPG

I have read multiple bad reviews of 'Ohana lately, but our meal was fantastic. Other than the meat not being on skewers, all of the food was prepared perfectly. The seasoning on the steak and chicken was fantastic, the noodles tasted like I remember from the good ol' days, and Owen got a second skillet of the dumplings and inhaled them! The price is kind of tough to swallow, but I really had no complaints this time!

We had been watching the radar, as some severe storms were supposed to be hitting the area at the time of our dinner. We did get a little rain, but nothing significant and it was done by the time we left. The outdoor rides at MK were closed and hadn't opened yet when we first returned to MK.

Oh, Mary! I'm so sorry for the loss of your Lily. I had no idea, but thank you for sharing. I have thought about getting a lily to have in pictures. I've looked on Etsy and found some cute crocheted ones as well, but haven't decided on anything yet. For now, I have a pendant with some of her ashes and one with her thumbprint on it that I wear at all times unless I am sleeping, showering, or swimming and Brian and the boys have bracelets with her ashes and rings with her thumb prints so she can always be with us. We jumped the first hurdle by getting the pics done at Disney, but I think this holiday season is going to be the worst because my parents always want a full family photo done. We all skipped last year, but I think they'll want one again this year and I'm afraid my SIL is going to be very dramatic about Lily not being there and make it worse for us. Maybe a stand in flower would make it better for her too. Definitely something to think about.
I crochet, and I would be glad to make a Lily for you. Both of you. I think it's a beautiful idea

Slightly blurry pic because I had to take it around a PP photographer.

This little guy set off Logan's Magicband+, so he stopped to interact for a moment.

I couldn't con any of them into getting an actual picture with the purple wall, so just a quick pic in passing.

We jumped in line for the Peoplemover.

But it soon stopped and didn't start up very quickly, so we jumped ship and went to our Space LL.

When we exited, there was a light rain happening, so no pictures on the way to our Peter Pan LL. Sorry for the blurry pic, it was that time of night where the light was just low enough that I had to completely stop for the pictures to turn out.

The outdoor rides were finally open, so we headed to redeem our LL for Jungle Cruise. Our skipper was Rylee and she was awesome!

We then headed back over to Tomorrowland for our Tron ILL and to find a check in location for the After Hours. We finally found a check in location near Stitch's Great Escape and got our wrist bands. We then headed to Tron to meet back up with Kelly and Tracey. They were super excited to be riding with us for our first experience.

We had just a few minutes until both sets of our ILLs were ready to be used. Kelly was so excited that we all enjoyed it!

As we were waiting for our ILL time, our VQ boarding group got called. So after our first ride, we said our goodbyes to Kelly and Tracey, and I took Logan and Owen for our VQ. Brian had enjoyed the ride, but didn't want to experience it again right away.

As we were exiting, the fireworks were happening. Ideally, we would have been in front of the castle, but the boys had said earlier that they weren't really interested, so I put aside my wants and just followed along.

We stopped and got some drinks, then decided to ride SDMT again. The wait said 45 minutes, but it was only 15, if that. Brian sat this one out too.

Owen wanted to ride Buzz Lightyear again, so we started walking that way. We passed Pooh with zero wait and decided to hop on for a quick spin. Sorry for the bad pic, but I wasn't good at taking notes at that point and wanted to remember our timeline.
IMG_4876.JPG

As we were exiting, more fireworks were going off. They were from the special AH show that, once again, the boys didn't care about, so I just took a few pics and we moved on.

Then we made it to Buzz. I lost again, but I did better than my first round, so at least that's something. This was also a walk on.

Tron had a 25 minute wait posted, so we headed over for one more ride. By the time we got there, it had jumped to 30 minutes, then 40 minutes very quickly. Brian never intended to ride, and Owen decided he didn't want to stand in line that long and ended up sitting with Brian to wait for us. It ended up being about a 30 minute wait.

It's fun, but I'm not sure I would wait much more than 30 minutes for it in the future!

We all had hit a wall and were just done, so we headed to the hub for a few last pics before heading back to CBR.

I love the way your pictures take us on a journey from place to place! And I've been trying to figure out what to do with my 3 trash bags of t-shirts that have logos on them from places I've been, that I just don't want to give up. Usually, quilts are what people suggest, but I live in SW Florida where I don't really need one, but seeing yours is making me rethink the situation 🤔 Can't wait for more trip report!

Another option that you can do is actually frame some of your favorite shirts. We did that at work with an important commemorative shirt that had meaning to our office. There's a couple of shirts that my husband has from important bike races he's done that we want to do that with at our next house. We ran out of wall space here :) I also cut out the front of the virtual runDisney cardboard boxes that were mailed and framed them and incorporated into the Disney wall decor in our upstairs loft.

June 14 - Typhoon Lagoon After Hours

We had no plans this morning, so we all slept in a little (and the boys slept in a lot!!) Brian went to Centertown to pick up breakfast for us. I wanted a Mickey waffle and Spyglass Grill does not have them. I got the bounty platter and Brian got a ham and cheese omelet. Nothing spectacular, but exactly what I was craving!

We got the boys up and moving so we could make it to our 12:30 ADR at Whispering Canyon. I offered multiple transportation options and Owen chose the skyliner to DHS and a bus to Wilderness Lodge which was perfect since that's what I wanted to do too!

The boys ordered milkshakes and water to drink. Our server asked if they were really going to drink the water. She liked Logan's answer and brought him a full glass of water, but she didn't believe Owen when he said he would drink the water and only brought him half a glass of water!
IMG_4950.JPG

IMG_4951.JPG

Brian and Logan both ordered the bison burger.
IMG_4953.JPG

Owen got the Heritage skillet (breakfast foods).
IMG_4954.JPG

And I got the carnivore skillet with cornbread.
IMG_4955.JPG

Everyone enjoyed their food and our server was great. She provided just the right amount of entertainment without being overwhelming. Logan and Owen loved it when she yelled across the room for "Amy's kids" when she had a question for them.
