The Passion of The Christ

I agree with you there. I said basically the same thing in my little review (or tried to), but you worded it much better. I saw a good bit of mirroring between Mary and Satan in the movie, in other places as well.

I don't know If I have posted this yet, or no... But I discussed this one with me youth group.

When Satan, and Mary see each other. Satan is holding the demon Imp. Child. The child is looking at Mary and smiling, as is Satan. Which means Satan has got her baby, and Mary's baby is being crucified to death. She's being mocked...Sort of

OK, I *FINALLY* was able to see this movie tonight.

It was even better than I had anticipated. I cried almost throughout its entirety (I kept remembering how I felt as a child at the stations of the cross.. then remembering why after studying religions, mythology, occultism and high magic I came to the conclusion I did a few years ago.. etc. etc.)

........Anyway....

The demon-like child -- I agree with what was just stated, it seemed as if satan was mocking both Mary and Jesus to me.

Anti-semitism -- what? Where? Maybe Anti-phariseeism... but hey, Jesus was all about anti-pharisees so that wasn't surprising. No anti-semitism found in this movie by me.

The latin -- I could understand nearly everything Pilate and his wife said, and the latin Jesus was speaking when he spoke with Pilate, but man... the Latin some of the soldiers were speaking I could barely make out a couple of words. (I am surprised the latin I took years ago actually came back to me!)

The Aramaic -- I don't know what aramaic is really like, but it sounded like Hebrew with arabic words mixed in. Definitly a cool factor for the movie, I am so glad this was done in the languages of the period and location.

Too bad their pronunciation is awful, and that latin was not used for discussion at the time, but only for royal decrees.

:hammer: :hammer: Ok, I'll admit this and show my ignorance....something I didn't realize until yesterday--Satan was played by a woman! This passed right over me! And I will say, she did a very convincing job in her role.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned? hmmm........ :animwink:

I was able to see this on a freebie today. Whilst well made it is a bloody, violent and fairly depressing movie. I too saw no anti-Semitism. The Pharisees come out of it as villains for their religious intolerance and the majority of the Roman soldiers are show as little else but thugs. I now need to do something to cheer myself up. So, I’ll dunk a couple of chocolate biscuits in a mug of tea and see what’s happening on the boards.

This is for ThirdEye for the "Who Killed Jesus" thread. The answer is that the Jews did not kill Jesus. But it was ME who killed Jesus. And all of us on the boards killed Jesus with OUR sins...

My thought of the movie: WOW!!! I think this was by far the BEST movie I have ever seen in my life! I tried to not cry in the beginning of it (since I knew I would be REALLY crying at the end).....but I couldn't hold the tears back. I got to go for free because my bosses had extra tickets. I just, can't say enough about the movie! I have NEVER been so moved in my life before. And I never saw any anti-Semitism. All I know is that it was a very good movie. I was also shocked at how many times I jumped! LOL. Athother than that... :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

*cough cough* must...state....input.... umm, my friend who lived in Isreal for a couple years and actually speaks a couple languages, including Hebrew and Aramaic, said this was all right on... and the whole latin issue. Yes, the Latin vulgate was used for royal decrees, but the tongue WAS spoken...

The only reason I got to see it was because my bosses had the tickets already. And it was a special viewing of it. Saturday morning at 10:30am. So you had to have tickets from one of the stores around here. But, it was packed after 10 minutes of letting people in. And there was another showing right after it. People were lined up behind a rope waiting for the next one. If you don't already have a ticket, go to the special showings, or get to the theater at least 2 hours before, you won't get to see it for another few weeks here. Which is AMAZING. Because people are coming from like 30 miles to come here to see it.

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but it's just such an awesome topic to talk about. Has anybody new recently seen the movie? Just put your input, and opinion. Post away...

Thanks for bumping it! I was too lazy to search for it.

I went to see it this past weekend. I think I started crying when they changed the whip to the one with nails on the end. OUCH. It was very hard to watch, but it helps to realize what He did for us.
The worst part is thinking that it was like that, or even worse... :(

I thought it was a woman from the beginning, but when I learned it was Satan, I stopped thinking it was a woman and assumed it was a guy with no eyebrows!
It sure scared the hell out of me at some point of the movie that I jumped from my seat and screamed... I think I was the only one...
