the old Snow White ride?

Indeed. Disneyland's facade was updated nicely (and that could have easily been done to WDW's as well like they have done with Pooh), but the core ride behind Toad at Magic Kingdom was much better. One of those few shining moments where WDW got something a bit more special that was brought over from Disneyland (basically when MK was treated as its own unique entity and a worthy park in of itself). Even though it was an old fashioned ride with a bunch of cutout props, it just had a lot of heart and was incredibly entertaining.

I don't have much against the Pooh ride in of itself, well with the exception being that it's a damn shame we didn't get the awesome trackless version from Tokyo. I actually love Winnie the Pooh and would have loved a ride to be made out of it. My problem is that this could have gone elsewhere without having to do away with Toad in the first place. They had plenty of space and we'd have had an addition instead of simply a replacement.

Sad to say that this is largely the situation behind the Fantasyland expansion. They're "new" attractions technically, but they're generally replacement for something that was torn down, they're not additions to a pre-existing roster of rides. We got Mermaid and 7 Dwarf coaster but at the expense of Snow White and (even though it has been gone for a long time now) 20k Leagues.

Exactly to everything above, totally agree,,,,and lokheed Im looking forward to your book.

Hi lokheed, I read part of your blog (I've got to run to to work will finish later). It's amazing. My son's favorite is the monorail.

But Mr Toad was one of my favorites as a child and now as an adult. I always loved the train heading towards us in the dark.
I can so vividly remember this as a boy of 5 or so.... I too miss it. I remember riding it shortly before it diappeared wondering what was so exciting about it!!! But yes, a vivid memory!!

As much as I'm sad that SWSA is gone, it is justified. It would be kinda weird having two Snow White themed attractions right next to each other. I just wish they were putting something worthwhile in there and not a meet and greet. They should have put a new dark ride there with a theme of a different Disney Classic.

Disneyland has two different Alice-themed rides right next to each other, as well as two different Dumbo-themed rides right next to each other. It works and it definitely would have worked with Snow White and the Mine Train. Oh well.

Wow. You're right. I feel like an idiot now, considering I got to DL at least once a year. That is embarrassing.

Was putting Mr.Toad's Wild Ride in the old SWSA building even considered in blue sky or was it always going to be princess fairy tale hall from the getgo? And by getgo I mean the revisions done to it led by Staggs in 2011. If so, they missed out on a heck of an opportunity here.

No Mr. Toad coming back was never on the table sadly. It was fairytale hall from the getgo, snow white was never suppose to have closed in the original new fantasyland before the revisions.

I knew Snow White was never supposed to close before the revisions. This just proves what has been a sway in marketing these parks: "add more M&G's to personalize our guests experiences and not build new attractions so we can make little kids happy to see their favorite characters and from a financial standpoint reduce our costs on attractions". Sickening esp.coming from TWDC since in the past they would spend no matter what $ value to make their products as eye appealing and enjoyable to everyone. I will always and still miss those days when characters would just roam the parks freely w/o having a designated area to meet them as they would walk up to you and just make you laugh and be happy. Now that was a personalized experience.

I met with the Imagineer in charge of that section. They closed it because, well, SWSA just wasn't as popular. M&G requirement came from above, so they couldn't do anything about it except find a space and make it look pretty.

I just would have better themed the existing Town Square Theatre space and built a different ride instead.

I agree. Or the area where they are building the Tangled "Reststop", could have easily been the new meetngreet area instead of using a perfectly good ride real estate show building. I am looking forward to the new mine coaster, but the little classic dark rides are what made Disney and the Magic Kingdom so,,,well Disney. The out with the old in with the new continues.

True, they dont, but then half of them dont belong in Norway's Akershus either! Thanks to the $$$ sign they didnt care.

True.

Though I suppose a "Royal Banquet Hall" makes more sense than a Town Hall. And Norway does have royalty, so there, theming problems totally solved! :p

He's doing well. We were at the park just yesterday, and although he asked about Snow White he did not get upset or spend any time walking the construction wall where the ride used to be. It took a solid six months for him to get over it. If you are interested, I have written a book about his entire experience - it will be available at the beginning of March, I'll post links here when it is out.
Can't wait for the book..your family ties to this ride touched all of us in my house...
