I do believe that Longbottom is a pureblood, not sure though.

You know, I was thinking about that before I went to bed last night, and I do believe you are right. I think Neville is pureblood...so now, I really have no idea who the Half Blood Prince is... :brick:

I think we're going to see more from Luna Lovegood. The fact that she also heard the voices from behind the curtain and has seen death (but who's we don't know) leads me to believe she's going to play a larger role to come.

I can see the whys and the whynots of Dumbledore dying. Why because they've been slowly making him more and more background and because him dying will put Harry in a place of coming to full terms with himself and the battle ahead. Whynot because Dumbledore hasn't finished being the figurehead that Harry needs and still knows things that haven't been revealed yet.

Rowling has made comments to the effect of she can't believe people don't already know that Ron and Hermionie are getting together. She said it different then that but she basically stated that it was obvious who was going to end up a couple. Seeing as she's made multiple scenes with them embarassed, flushed, and such around each other, clearly, they're destined to be a couple. Harry and Hermi to me, play more like a brother/sister relationship.

An openly discussed theory in my house is that Harry will eventually take the role of the "Defense Against the Dark Arts" position. This is why (IMO) that position has yet to be permanently filled.

Oh I LIKE this idea. I had not thought of that. It also sets Harry up to take over Hogwarts as Headmaster someday in the far future. But would Harry want to be a teacher? I tend to think of Hermione as the one who would become a professor at Hogwarts someday. Food for thought.... I love the suspense of not knowing.

Her mother blew herself up while performing an experiment. Though, rereading the scene, it doesn't explicitly say that's who she saw die. It says that's a person she knew who is dead. I had assumed that the mother was the answer but now I'm less certain.

I've been reading the earlier books to my son--we are in the middle of Chamber of Secrets. And I don't know if this could possibly have any bearing on the resolution of the story, but there's some reference to Ron's nose in every book and Hermione has some business with Harry's glasses in each one (actually, I noticed that one first in the movies).

I'm so obsessed I'll probably start looking for patterns that show Rowling has incorporated all the works of Shakespeare in the text....

I was going to say the same thing...but I wasn't positive I was right about Rowling making those statements...but I remember hearing that too.

Rowling has made multiple scenes w/Ron and Hermoine embarassed, etc and that is especially prevalent in the fourth book. Or if you watch the third movie, you can also see some moments between those two. (I.E. holding hands during the Hippogriff scene and then quickly realizing what they are doing)

I also have to agree with you that Harry and Hermione are like brother and sister. I just don't see a romance between the two of them. (Wouldn't it be funny if Harry ended up with Luna... :lookaroun Just an idea...)

There has to be more to that curtain than we know. I hate that curtain! What a terrible way to die.
I despise that rotten curtain! JK better gives us a darn good explination for that whole ordeal! I still say he's not really dead. ...at least, the way I'm writing it, he's not ;)

As to the party at Books-A-Million.... We had a great time during the last release party. They had fun stuff like potions class, costume contests, trivia. Their were people there of all ages and everyone seemed to being having a good time. However, I do live in a small community and only about 100 people were there. The coffee shop did remain open and it was more like a group slumber party than anything else. Better if you have kids though.
Oh what fun! :D I think I read that the last HP release party at my local BaM had around 500-800 people...and I'm expecting more to be there this time. Hopefully it won't be too crowded, though. I do wish someone would make up a batch of butterbeer and serve it...that would be too cool!

Oh, one of mine and my sister's friends works at Waldenbooks, and she said she was able to thumb through a copy and found out who dies....she said when she found out she thought "JKR, how could you?"...but that's all she said about it. :( I don't think I'm going to like JK very much after this book...but, I also don't think anything could devistate me quite as much as Sirius's "death".

Thanks so much for the spoiler warnings--I haven't looked although I might give in to temptation later :lookaroun (it doesn't count if no one sees you, right?).

From our local paper today:

"Library to host Harry Potter party Friday"

"....The free event will be held from 7 p.m. Friday until midnight Saturday.
Some of the activities include Quidditch, trivia, drinking potions, making edible wands and blowing up Aunt Marge. Two participants will win free copies of the book, which may be picked up at [local book store] after midnight--the bookstore will be open from midnight until the crowds clear....Children can earn other prizes throughout the night by answering trivia questions. At 9:30 p.m., the movie "The Prisoner of Azkaban" will be shown. Participants who cannot stay up until the witching hour may leave at 9 p.m. before the movie begins."

Whee! Not only are we having a party, they have a designated time for little kids to go home!

Ok, I've found the truth. Neville is indeed pureblood. Dumbledore says so at the end of OotP when he is talking to Harry in his office. I just happened to be reading the end and this jumped out at me. Dumbledore points out to Harry that Voldemort chose Harry a Half-Blood like him and not Neville a Pureblood which Voldemort thinks so highly of.

Ordered my copy from Amazon.co.uk. I won't be around when it's delivered, but I have another book to finish first.

I too believe we've not seen the last of Sirius.

I do hope Harry will stop all that teen angst whining from the last book.

As for how quickly the books can be read - a friend managed the last one in three hours twenty minutes. I can't figure out how the brain can take that much information in so quickly and enjoy the timing of the verse. I tend to read dialogue in real time and act it out in my head.

I found this on Mugglenet.com and after reading it, it sure got me psyched to read the HBP! There is definitely some good information. :sohappy:

Random facts about the book

We will learn a lot more about Voldemort in this book.

HBP will be an intense book, but with light-hearted moments.

Harry will leave Privet Drive early again, for a "much pleasanter" reason than in book 5.

The opening chapter of book 6 was originally planned for the early parts of book 1, perhaps we get a more in-depth story of what happened the night Harry's parents died.

Neither Harry or Voldemort (including Tom Riddle) are the Half-Blood Prince

Arthur Weasley will not be the new Minister of Magic

By the ends of books 6 and 7 "you'll have all the back story you'll need", says JK Rowling, and a prequel will not be necessary

There will be a new Minister of Magic, no more Mr. Fudge.

We will find out what happened to Hagrid's half brother Grawp. He will be a bit more controllable in book 6.

The Dursleys are in the next book, but Harry's stay with them will be the shortest yet. In book 5 he stayed for 4 weeks, so we know his stay will be less than 4 weeks.

Cho Chang will not be a romantic interest of Harry in Book 6, however there will be a "little romance" for Harry says JK.

In books 6 and 7 we will find out exactly why JK killed off Sirius.

Harry becomes even more powerful in book 6.

In books 6 and 7 we will find out why Dumbledore trusts Snape.

We will find out what happened to Wormtail AKA Peter Pettigrew

More about the animosity between Snape and Sirius will be revealed in the last 2 books.

JK has said that giving away the form of Snape's boggart and patronus says too much. We'll definitely find out what Snape's worst fear is, and it'll be important.

Hermione and Draco will NOT end up together in book 6 or 7.

We will find out what exactly Dudley saw when he looked at the dementors.

The reason Voldemort and Harry both didn't die when Voldemort tried to kill Harry, will be revealed.

We will see more of Draco's mother, Narcissa Malfoy, now that Lucius is busy.

We'll learn more about Harry's scar in the last 2 books.

Moaning Myrtle will make an appearance again, as will Tonks.

More about Voldemort's birth will be revealed, thus helping us understand why he is so evil.

Muggles begin to notice "more and more odd" occurrences in book 6, says JK.

The wizarding world is really at war in the sixth book.

Harry will tell his dearest friends about the prophesy after it sinks in to him.

We will learn more about Harry's relatives, including his grandparents (though JK says they aren't really important to the story)

We will find out what happened to Sirius's motorbike.

Book 6 will be shorter than the 5th book (or at least JK's 99% sure, but will not swear on her children's lives)

There will be no "new" nationalities of children at Hogwarts. Hogwarts is a British school, and JK says that adding foreigners for the sake of it is not in her plans.

During an interview, when JKR was asked in which Hogwarts room she'd like to be for 1 hour, she said it would be a room in which Harry has been before, but doesn't know its importance. Yet. (this could have happened in book 5, but we're unsure)

It's very important in the plot that Harry has his mother's eyes, and that her wand was very good for charms.

During an interview for Kids BBC, Victor Greensteet (reporter) asked Rowling if Harry would have a dragon for a pet. This is what she replied: "You can't tame a dragon, no matter what Hagrid thinks. It's simply impossible. So no. He has more common sense. He MAY have a different pet in the future, but for now, I won't say anything else". (This could have been buckbeak, but I'm sure we can expect more pets)

In the same interview for Kids BBC, the reporter asked J. K. if Harry had ever used the internet, and this is what she had to say: "No. They (the Dursleys) won't let him go near Dudley's computer, and Dudley is the only one who has a computer. They hit him if he gets too near to the keyboard. So the answer would be No. I use it a lot, but Harry doesn't. Wizards don't really need to go on the web. They have an even better way to find out what's happening in the outside world, which I think is a lot more fun than the Internet, but I'm going to keep quiet on this one."

The choice between what's right and what's easy will be a pillar of the plot in Harry's last 2 years at Hogwarts

Harry's parents' profession will be a big part of the plot.

Something HUGE will be revealed about Lily Potter.
