Business Casual Dresscode for Restaurants Update!!!

Effective July 1, 2007, Disney modified its Business Casual Dress Code at its premier restaurants to include t-shirts. The guidelines, which originally went into effect July 2005, still prohibit hats, swim suits, swim suit coveralls, tank tops, torn clothing or flip-flops. Suggested attire includes dress shorts, pants, jean pants, collared shirts, blouses, sweaters. Restaurants now requiring Business Casual dress include: Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge), California Grill (Contemporary), Citricos and Narcoossee's (Grand Floridian), Jiko (Animal Kingdom Lodge), Flying Fish (Boardwalk), and Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club).

In addition, holidays at Disney's Hollywood Studios will have a special sparkle this year as the park hosts the Harlem Gospel Choir Nov. 30-Dec. 25, 2007

Just for fun! Log into your account at http://www.waltdisneyworld.com When you enter the site, go to My Disney Vacation Home. Click on Back Stage Pass and there is a hide the scenes video of what Cinderella's Castle will look like during December. All I can say is, breathless.

We had planned to start a family tradition of Christmas in WDW next year, but we changed our minds and decided to start this year. So I booked it at the "last minute" (for me, anyway, Miss Type A planner ) at the end of September. I'm planning to call this week to make our final payment... woo-hoo! :xmas:

I got my Magical Express luggage tags & info in the mail today. Yaaayyy!!! I think I'm like 37 days out now. Ooooohhh....I can't wait!!!

How long have I been planning. We made these reservations when we were on our way home from our trip the 1st week of February. Actually, I first made ressies for the Wilderness Lodge. A week later after basking in my memories and daydreaming I switched to the Contemporary in a Bay Lake view. Then a few days later after really thinking on it and the hubby's persistent go-for-its I switched a final time to a Magic Kingdom view. The only way I could get any better is if I went for a suite or concierge but there's really no sense in all that. Lol! I made dining ressies probably around 170 days in advance. We had just done a major move around the 180 day mark and I didn't even realize it was time already. I was going to wait to get to WDW to purchase our Florida resident seasonal passes. During a call to the world and talking to a CM for a loooong time she convinced me to switch to a package w/dining. We have a lot of dining booked so for us it could work out for the better. At first I was really nervous about doing a package but I'm more settled with it now. I know how it works so I think I'll be able to take full advantage of the perks. I still intend to take the 4 1-day MYW tickets to Guest Relations and apply them towards my FL Res. Seasonals. That means I only have to bring about $350 with me for the difference on the passes. I've made my mousekeeping thank-yous. I've come up with my design for our custom vacation shirts. I still need to buy the white t-shirts. The bro-in-law is bringing his shirt press machine from his house over Thanksgiving for me to finish my family shirts. Yaaayyy!!! We've bought new luggage, new camcorder (the old one died), etc. We're sooooo ready for it to be here!!!!

Sorry so long-winded. I can't help it. I get so jazzed!!!:sohappy:

Woo hooo! 46 more days until we get to check in at AKL. It's getting so close. I can't wait. :xmas:

To answer the question. I didn't get started with my reservations and planning until September 15th for the extended part of our yearly trip, so my planning has so far taken just a bit over a month. Originally we were going to stay at Port Orleans Riverside, then I changed my mind after finding a discount code and learning I could get a room at AKL for only a hundred dollars more in total. I've always wanted to stay at the AKL, so has DH, but we've just never done it until this year. I'm just hoping it isn't a let down, or that it doesn't feel like the room is way too small after moving from a week in our timeshare condo. As of right now, all of the ADR's have been made (though I'm still calling periodically in a small hope of maybe snagging a lunch ADR at Le Cellier), the MVMCP tickets have already arrived, Ressies for the Christmas Sleigh rides from WL have been made, packing lists created and the purchase of a small Christmas tree with decorations we are bringing with us are done. Thank you cards for exceptionally magical CM's have been made. I still have to make Mousekeeping envelopes, arrange for DH's surprise gift and also arrange for the surprise, specialty cake for him and of course pack. I also still have a few things to do for the week at the condo prior to our arrival at AKL. I think I've been concentrating too much on the Disney side and have left the rest to the last minute, which I hate doing.

Now that I look at it, I thought I had more accomplished than I actually do.

Hey all you Decemberists. I might possibly add my name to the December trip list. Found out last night that my folks have decided to go down for the weekend of the 30th of November to the 3rd of December and I may go along. Woot!:xmas:

So as far as the how long do you usually plan question goes, This would be a little more than 1 month.

HI ALL,

Well, i started planning for this holiday trip last Jan 07 . i had planned for us all to stay at the AKL, but between the construction and the fact that we are bringing my Father, I ended upgrading to conteporary. (The monorail wil be easier with a scooter than the Buses right? :p)
Over this last year, i have purchased new backpacks for my family to use in the parks, new luggage for my DS's family, made our ADR's, even booked a tour for my DD and Myself (epcot seas aqua tour), I even reserved a photo shoot session at the GF for the family. which i am really looking forward too.
We are starting to make our mousekeeping evelopes this week.!
Everyday i run to the computer and sit there with my family and check out the news for WDW! ( I NEED TO GO!!!!!!)

SO now that my morning rant is completed, Have a great day all!

Very cool! I booked a shoot for my family in the MK our first morning there. We've been needing family portraits really bad (haven't done them for about 5 years). I figured what better time and place? Did you plan to wear coordinating clothes or anything? I bought us all white button-up oxfords from the Polo Outlet that I plan to pair with dark blue jeans, brown belts, and brown shoes. It'll be nice but casual, too. I'll probably iron everyone's shirts before bed the night before (which to be honest, sucks). I wonder if I shipped my shirts down a day a few days early could they have them back from the cleaners all pressed when we check in. I'm hoping and praying the weather will be pretty for us. I hope your shoot goes smooth and the pics are the bestest ever!

You guys are going to absolutly love AKL - and even more so during the Christmas Season. It really is a sight to behold.

We stayed there two years ago in July and had a two bedroom/two bathroom "suite" w/consrg level - that was nice. The room was very nice...and the main bathroom was HUGE. The other bathroom was just a standard bathroom. We felt a little cramped (but then we had a few too many people in there too - 5 adults and 3 kids) Sis/husband in one bed, mom/2 girls in the other, Myself/signfgnt other and nephew on the pull out (and even that wouldn't have been so bad if my nephew hadn't of been a hot box and all arms and legs/being that he was 8).

If you get the chance - YOU MUST EAT at Jiko - it's FABULOUS! (more for the adults of the group)
The morning breakfast buffet at The Mara is a GREAT way to start the day! I almost made myself sick one of the days we ate there - I ate way way to much - it was soooo good.

I started planning in January! I haven't planned this far ahead ever. I am so glad I found this forum to help the long wait be more bearable! I made my DD reservations around 150 days ahead ( I forgot it was 180 :brick:) The only thing I haven't been able to get is Chef MIckeys for dinner, I have breakfast but would like dinner instead. I just got my tickets for MVMCP and have also made plans for Bibbidi boutique. I printed out my mousekeeping and am now working on a journal and an autograph book for my daughter. I also want to make her a shirt saying something about going to Disney today to wear the day we leave...not sure what I am going to write yet, any ideas??

Got my DME tags today! :sohappy: I am all in the "ones" today--ONE month, ONE week and ONE day until we are there! (I am ONE happy girl! :D)

BTW--Sweetpee, this is JUST too weird...we originally booked at WL as well before switching to the CR! Are you SURE we aren't twins, clones or possibly even the same person?? Only thing is, we haven't upgraded to the MK view. DH really WANTS me to do so, but I am such a penny pincher that I just...can't...do...it!

(Oh, and Sweetpee, I'll be in touch again soon, okay? Sorry, things have been nutty here lately!)

I second the Must eat at Jiko comment! We love Jiko. It definitely is a more adult atmosphere, but if you take your kids it's no problem. Our kids go with us when we eat there and they love it too. The breakfast buffet is at Boma and it is delicious :slurp: Mara is the marketplace, where you can get things like pre made sandwiches and the ever popular Zebra Domes :slurp::slurp:. I haven't been in Mara since 2004, I vaguely remember there being a spot in there where you could short order things like grilled cheeses and burgers and such.

PlutoInAtlanta & TwoTigersMom, thank you for the suggestion of Jiko. I'd given it a thought when scheduling all of my ADR's, but somehow in my frenzy to get all of those secured the way I wanted them I left Jiko out (partly due to DH hounding me to make sure we definitely get YSH and CG which are musts for us when we visit, yes I'm blaming it on him..because well it is his fault. :lookaroun). With both stellar recommendations by the both of you, I'll definitely see if I can snag us an ADR for the prior week when we are off-site. And that way I have a reason to by-pass DH's idea that we aren't going to visit WDW at all the week we are in the condo. :goodnevil Little does he know I'm in charge of making the ressies and he has to eat, so it will be where I choose. :D

Oh... and TwoTigersMom, looks like you and I will be checking in and neighbors during the same time. I hope your Christmas trip is a Merry and Happy one!

And finally only 45 more days!!! :sohappy:

Hey sweetpee, How did you book for Magic Kingdom? it was my understanding that it was ony being done at the GF? please let me know, so i can look into it. Since we are staying at CR, my family wondered about doing photos at GF? I was thinking that the holliday decorations would be a nice back drop for family pictures. ANY suggestions? And We didn't plan on wearing matching outfits but we do have matching disney t shirts for a day when we go to Ohana at poly.

I contacted the Disney Photographic Services. The number I have for them is (407)827-5099. Ask to speak to Scarlett. I still have the pricing sheet for ordering the photos in my documents as a Word file. I can email you that if you want to send me a private message here at WDWMagic with your email. I could also scan and send you the other info sheets I have as well. I don't think you have to have any certain "in" to get the Magic Kingdom session. It's listed on the info sheet in the location options. If you talk to Scarlett, she will email you everything I have. I'd check with her for availability, too.

I planned out the matching outfits because Scarlett had sent me a link to a website that had a bunch of sample pics (so you can see what to expect). Also, one of their tips was for everyone to wear either the same color or complimenting colors. Looking at their samples I narrowed it down to all in white shirts or navy blue. I was up in the air over khaki pants. I finally decided to go with jeans because it's more like us as we normally are but dresses up a bit with the nicer shirts.

My hubby stressed a little over the thought that we'd be spending all this money and they'd come out like PhotoPass pics. I talked with Scarlett quite a bit about this and she assured me that this was NOT the case. She said they would be beautiful family portraits with one heck of a background. :)

Let me know how it goes!

OMG! That is sooo freaky! I'll chalk our likeness up to 'Great Minds'. LOL! We rock. 'Nuff said. :D

I was so iffy on making that jump from Bay Lake to MK view because of the $$. I still look at the travel budget on this one and my heart skips a beat. I've never ever done this before. The hubby kept saying to do it because if I didn't I'd probably want to go back again to do what I really wanted in the first place. Then my Gramma was telling me about when she "splurged" for a trip she took with my Grampa many many years ago. They spent a whopping $850 to stay in the Polynesian, have a 4 day pass, and dining included. At the time that was considered big bucks and she has always been an oober-frugal gal. She told me that it was totally worth it, that the memories were worth so much more than the dollars spent. Her memories of their adventures are worth more now than ever since my Grampa passed a few years ago. So I sucked it up, said a little prayer for my Grampa to come smile on me, and made the leap. No regrets. I'm so jazzed. On the other hand, if you don't go with MK View you can always bring your bunch to come watch the fireworks from our balcony with us. LOL! Right????

(We'll be in touch soon. Life's been a zoo here as well. Don't stress on it. Too much other stuff for us to stress over right now....)
