The "No Fastpass, Many Meet 'N' Greets, Wait, What Happened to the Plan?" First TR!

AKA: BALD-LEG AND BURNT-KNEE GO TO WALT DISNEY WORLD!

Ok, so it has been a couple of weeks since my trip to the World, settled in with my fiance's family up in SC, so it's time to start the Trip Report!

WHO:
72005_10151149904367198_1400752944_n.jpg

ME- Emma (AKA Burnt-Knee). Musical Theatre Nerd. Uni Student. Lover of Disney Princesses (Especially Snow White!) and Winnie The Pooh.

35498_10151149904837198_1763012806_n.jpg

My Fiance- Shane (AKA Bald-Leg). Harry Potter nerd. Soon-to-be Uni Student. Lover of Jack Sparrow, The Lion King, Peter Pan and all things Pixar.

Shane and I have been involved in a long distance relationship for almost two years now. I am British and he is American. We are engaged and hope be married within the next two years. This trip to Disney marked our first vacation together, the first week of my six week visit to the States. I am very much the Disney fanatic of the outfit, my favourite vacation was Disney World at aged 12 and the movies were my childhood. Shane, not so much, he had been to Disney before, but had never seen fireworks or even been to Epcot! The boy needed some educating and it was up to me to do it!

WHEN: 21st-28th May 2013. I would say that crowds were fairly moderate, probably slightly better then expected given all the events that were going on and Memorial Day Weekend.

WHERE: Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying at Disney on a budget. The rooms are lovely, any problems we had were solved very efficiently. The best perk of this hotel is definitely the buses. They run two buses every half an hour. One route covers Epcot and Hollywood Studios, the other Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Granted, they are not as frequent as Disney Resort buses, but we never waited more than 10-15 minutes for a bus, except for one occassion.

Now let's see what we got up to!

Day 1- Travelling

(I have some pictures from this day but they are on my English cell phone so i can't get them online until I get home.)

My day started at 5:30am, today was the day! I got ready, packed the final things in my luggage, and said goodbye to my kitty for the next six weeks. Around 7:15, I left for the airport with my parents, and made it around 8am. Checked in, and then sat down for a last full english with my parents. Then, it was time for the big goodbye, my parents. I am an only child, and very close to my parents, and this was my first time flying alone, the furthest I have traveled alone and the longest time I have been away from home. So it was really hard to say goodbye.

I made it through security, to find out my flight had been delayed an hour, great. So I browsed the duty free shops, picked up some chewy sweets to help with the ear pain that take off and landing cause, settle in and text Shane, who was driving down from South Carolina. he was making good progress, and finally the time came around to board. As it turned out, I got the bulkhead seat, giving me a good amount of legroom.

We took off just before 1pm, and so began what felt like the longest 8 1/2 hours of my life. XD We landed at MCO around 4:25pm, in the rain. Good old Florida weather. I got through immigration with a lovely lady officer to remarked I told how long I was here for, "Girl, you must have something special here!" Too right I do, lady. XD

I hopped aboard the non-Disney monorail and set about finding my fiance. Eventually I got to him, turns out he had arrived about four hours before me. That boy is fast. I was so excited to see him again, especially knowing I had so much time with him this trip. He had already checked into our room so we drove to the hotel, stopping off at Walgreens to pick up a couple more essentials. I loved our room as soon as I saw it. Two queen beds, big TV, beautiful view of Hotel Plaza. I was finally in Florida!!

We had intended to go to Downtown Disney this evening, but we were both so exhausted from the traveling we decided to eat at the Pizza Hut Express Station (the chicken alfredo pasta is to die for!) and then turn in. The fun would really start in the morning!

You were there the same time as us! We were at WDW from May 22nd-29th and I agree, besides DHS, the crowds were not as bad as we expected them to be. Can't wait to read more! :D

Day 2, Part 1- Epcot AKA "The Day of Many Meet n Greets."

My day started at 4am, when I woke up for no good reason. Oh wait, my body seemed to think it was 9am. Jet lag is a beautiful thing. I watched the world go by from the window until I finally felt like I could lay down, and napped until I was re-awoken by the alarm and Shane at 7.

We got ready, making sure to apply a liberal dose of suncream, because Shane is fair-skinned and I am English. XD It turns out that this super-strong 100 SPF sunblock could give Nair a run for its money. As Shane was applying it to his leg, it was taking off his hair, leaving a bald patch. And thus the nickname Bald-leg was born.

All ready!!

Did I mention we are at DISNEY WORLD!? HAPPY DAYS!!

.
Complimentary continental breakfast was included in our stay, so we chowed down to set us up for the day. They had a pretty good variety of things and we were stuffed by the time we got to the bus stop about 10 :30 (yeah we took our time..).

Behind us is one of the Downtown Disney Resort buses. It is fairly standard to the buses serving that route, they ran from an hour before the parks open until an hour and a half after park close. They even ran all night for the MK 24 hour opening. They were an absolute God-send and saved us a lot money on gas and parking.

As we were waiting for our bus, we encountered our first of many animal friends of this trip.

984021_4244265123214_1925543260_n.jpg

This squirrel was absolutely not afraid of humans. Another girl at the bus stop kept giving him pieces of her pastry and he came right up to her, no hesitance whatsoever. He didn't even run as we took pictures. Sadly though, we had to goodbye to our furry friend, it was time for EPCOT!!

I was so excited to finally be back in The World, I was squealing, and Shane was looking at me like I had two heads. XD We were heading for Spaceship Earth, when we spotted Goofy and Daisy Duck Meet 'n' Greeting, so we hopped in line for Goofy.

Queue boredom...

947339_4244267443272_1560950681_n.jpg

But before we knew it Goofy was in front of us!

263262_4244268283293_150522871_n.jpg

Straight after that, we hopped in line for Daisy Duck. Her line was considerably longer, which led to more queue boredom...

942304_4244277163515_1370635427_n.jpg

Shane likes to take photos of me mid-sentence, pictures like that are the very attractive result. XD Whilst we were waiting in line, we had more fun with Goofy. He returned from his break, parting the line so he could get past. So I jokingly called him a diva, to which turned to me, struck a diva pose and carried on walking. Really wish I caught it on camera it was a brilliant moment.

Meanwhile, Shane was hungry for plants....

Then it was time to meet Daisy Duck!

936798_4244277443522_755841318_n.jpg

Having covered the first two of what would prove to be many meet and greets of this trip, we headed over to our first ride: Spaceship Earth! I always knew that this would be our first ride in Epcot, but I was doubly happy it was our first ride of the trip, as it is a favourite of my family's, and the first one I rode on our last Florida vacation. It was just as awesome as I remember, the section where you look back at earth from space is possibly one of my favourite things in the entirety of Walt Disney World. Plus, the knew interactive additions are a lot of fun. Shane and I designed our eco-friendly home of the future. The faces we chose to pull in the pictures made the result even funnier.

970605_4244277883533_88829889_n.jpg

After admiring our wonderful house we headed over to innoventions and checked out Vision's house of the future, which, honestly, comes off as an 18 minute sales pitch for the sponsor's products. But we did do the quiz about making your home green, with a perfect score, like the awesome eco-warriors we are.

942842_4244278603551_1416722631_n.jpg

After that, we wandered into mouse gears, as I had, had designs on getting ears on my first day for a long time. Shane, being the pirate lover that he is, chose the pirate mickey ears, and I couldn't resist the sparkly minnie ears. By the time we paid for our purchases our stomach were rumbling again. Time for lunch! We headed into Electric Umbrella and both got ourselves the meatball sub. And here is the only food picture I remembered to take the entire trip. XD

485422_4244279043562_1904841598_n.jpg

It was very tasty, but too big for me, I probably managed about 3/4 before I had to admit defeat. Satisfied, we hopped over to the Epcot Character Spot, there was a big cheese we had to meet...

I was there for a short time May 23rd-25th for the All-Nighter...so I'm in for this TR! Maybe it'll encourage me to do my TR!!

Haha, I'm squeezing mine in between experiencing SC right now, and we are off to NYC in a couple of days, so once I get back to England I will have more time to post things up! Sounds like you were navigating the crowd at the same time we were, can't wait to hear about your trip!

Loving your trip report!! :)

MICKEY!

He kept kissing my hand, I think it was because of my Minnie ears. Shane was quick to remind him that I was "His Minnie" and that we were engaged. As we walked away, he pointed at the two of us and gave a thumbs up! You know you're a good match when you have the Mickey Mouse seal of approval!

Next up was Pluto, we had a lot of fun dancing with him.

Then we hopped over to see Minnie Mouse. Just before our turn she had to go powder her nose. Fair enough, girl has to look her best, so I was getting down to the funky tunes while we waited.

I know. I'm so fly, yo.

Then at last, the lady of the moment returned!

Upon exiting the Character Spot, Shane decided he wanted to get some pictures of me in front of the Fountain of Nations.

969944_4244283283668_1292133428_n.jpg

We wandered through Future World, trying to decide on what ride to do next. Then we spotted Chip and Dale meet and greeting. Shane all but ran into the queue. Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers was his childhood, and he had already told me how much he wanted to meet them. So of course we waited, and Shane got hungry AGAIN.

312124_4244283643677_690091705_n.jpg

Honestly, you can't take him anywhere! About halfway through the line, it started to rain. The CMs in charge handled this very efficiently, walking us still in line to the rainy day M&G spot and continuing right where we left off. Then came our turn!

Getting the love! They like my engagement ring.

Shane got some love too!

Can't get enough Chipmunk cuddles!

Bye Bye Chip and Dale!

292964_4244296804006_1179864151_n.jpg

I think this was probably one of our favorite M&Gs of the entire trip, they were so cheeky! They kept hugging us and checking out my ring. They even decided Shane's ears meant he was a pirate, which made his day.

Up next: Nemo shows us some fish!

We discovered that the seas with nemo and friends only had a 10 minute wait, so we hopped on that and discovered a "Big Blue World." Shane's favorite part was the section with the jellyfish.

Shane is a shark fan, so he had to take the Shark quiz in this area. He was sad not to earn the title of Great White! But he did awesome! We wandered over to say hi to some fish.

And Shane's favorite, the Shark!

And last but not least, the Ray!

1011768_4343366440685_94410915_n.jpg

After that we started to wander into World Showcase, but we both realized that we were still tired from the day before, and I was still adjusting to the timezone. It was time to bid Epcot a farewell until the next day. Some of you might be surprised that we only did two rides, but Shane had told me he wanted to do as many M&Gs as we could this trip, and I was all for it. I was just happy to be in Disney, whatever we were doing.

We made it back to our bus stop having just missed the last bus, and had to wait another half an hour without cover for the next one. I will say again this is the only time we had to wait this long for a bus the entire trip. So of course this would be when the heavens chose to open on us in classic Florida Style. We rushed over to the bus stop across from our's, which was covered, and waited it out over there. Though we still both ended up soaked. Then, I have no idea why, I started to cry. I think the fact that I was tired, with sore feet wet, cold and unable to get out of it, I just got overwhelmed. meltdown #1.

Shane managed to cheer me up by pointing out that my knees were bright red. Out of all the places I could have got sunburn, it had to be on my knees. And so is the story of how Emma earnt the name Burnt-Knee.

Finally a bus showed up, we ran through the storm to get on it. The bus driver took one look at us and pulled out a roll of kitchen towel, telling us "Y'all look like you need it." Thanks.
