The next generation of Fastpass?

Interestingly enough, each of these patents has the following as a part of it.

[0037] The invention is further described in relation to the "Fastpass" (Trademark, Disney Enterprises, Inc.) system of achieving line management. For ease of reference the trademark Fastpass is used herein. It is however not the only system of line or queue management covered by this invention. The invention generally covers different priority systems operable conjunctively with the first-in first-out system.

It looks as if Fastpass is covered under these patents.

I know there's been some talk the last year or so about the Pal Mickey 2.0 including things like being able to notify you of PS reservations, specific scheduled bookings (like tours or whatnot) and related. And allowing for such things to even call or page you as well. Perhaps it's inclusive of the Fastpass tickets as well....? Same basic idea, but new ways of handling the notification, time flow and having a dynamic time frame to actually alter based on line movement.

Interesting though either way.

Is this company an actuall company, or a front for Disney?
That, I do not know. However, I noticed that the 'inventors' were all from the areas surrounding WDW, and the 'company' was in California... sounds Disney related to me. But *shrug*

Greg Hale is one of the two names on the original Fastpass patent. (Bruce Laval is the other.)

They've already experimented with sending text messages to phones over in Disneyland. They called it "DisneyTXT".

That would make obtaining FP's easier, or more complicated. I mean using your phone to get a FP to IJA while in line for the HM would be great. However if there are any tech problems the whole system could crash, or be jumbled up. I would like to see it put into action with hopes it is successful.

Hmm, let's hack into the system and get free fast passes for umm, like everything. LOL
I'm sure Disney would use a very hi-tech security system to proect itself from hackers. And how do you hack a computer system with a cell phone??? :veryconfu

Even though it IS 2004, there are still people who don't have a cell phone. Would this mean they would not be able to use the system? Kinda defeats the fact that it's something that anyone visiting the park can use.

You could hack into the wireless system with a laptop!! All you would need is the server address and the port numbers they use for sending/receiving communication. You'd also have to be an experienced hacker!

Wasn't Disney testing out PDA wireless technology and how it could profitably be integrated at WDW for guest use (to enhance serivce) or something...perhaps this possible enhancement to the Fast Pass system is linked to that research...

I would imagine renting out PDAs or Cellphones would yield some extra money...expecially if tied to a better version of the current Fast Pass system...

Just some thoughts...

I've seen (and played) with the equipment that Disney had, and the fact is that untill cheap screens and other hardware can be produced (as in a few bucks a pop for a unit) we won't see a PDA style device anytime soon. Not only that, but the PDA alone market is dying, with it rising up as phone/pda combos.

As for text messaging, it was probably a test, but I have a feeling that Disney won't go this route. People still can't take a ticket and place it into a box to get a FastPass, what makes you think they can properly send a text message to a central unit? Logistics would be a nightmare.

This system doesn't only work through a cell phone. Around line 148 of the invention description, it says that people could pre-reserve fastpasses from their home computer or a Disney kiosk. It also talks about using printed fastpasses, as well having hotel guests order them from their in-room TV's. This eliminates the problem of people not having a cell phone or PDA.

Personally, I think it looks really cool.

So, when its time for you to return for your turn at fastpass or priority seating, would a peice of paper be printed out from Mickey's, well, uh, his, um, his mouse behind?????
