OK so me and a few friends from class go out and hang out since we no longer have class anymore. We went to Joes Crab Shack, I have never been so I was like OK cool a new place to go. Well we got lousy service the whole time so when we paid our bill, in cash, we left no tip. We then left and as me and my friend were waiting for the car to come around here comes our waiter ASKING for a TIP!!!!! :fork: He goes ladies you know waiters make $2.13 an hour could I have a tip. :zipit: :fork: I told him back at yeah I know how much you make I was once a waitress as well so yeah I know and then I got in the car. Has anyone else been asked for a tip at any resturant they went to, my friends and I are thinking about writing a letter saying how rude it was for that employee to ask for a tip....I'll never eat there again

WOW! Sorry to hear that Atta! THe Joes crab shack here in Wickliffe, Ohio all the waiters/waitresses are so nice! One time I had lousy service at The Outback . I was so furious that I did talk to the manager and all I left the woman was a penny!

LOL- that is pretty amazing. Did you tell him why he didn't get a tip?

And I am surprised. I have eaten at Joe's in most of their locations across America and never once have I had bad food or slow service. No matter how packed they are they always seem to keep things moving. And the place is fun too.

Yeah, I ate at the Joe's in Orlando and really liked it. I remember once at Applebee's we had a waitress who was making fun of one of my friends and then started cursing while she was talking to another employee standing right behind our table. No tip that night.

At Bennegans (sp?) on I-Drive, our waiter got fired during the course of our meal. (so no, he didn't get a tip :D )

You're right, what nerve of the waiter to come out and ask for a tip. Never had a waiter/waitress ask for it...I'm like you, if the service is bad the server receives no tip.

I had a friend that would always leave a tip no matter how bad the service...oh sure, it was usually a penny when the service was bad, but his motto was to always tip  .

I always leave a tip, but I rate it based on the service. I have left downright crap tips before(not a penny, but maybe a dollar for a meal totalling over $50.) And I have left spectacular tips(one server that I am turning into a regular for at a nearby restaurant gets very, very good tips from me because of how nice and attentive she is). But never have I had one come up to me asking for a tip. The tip is how I comment to the waiter on their service, or lack thereof.

That is how I am,
But if a waiter/waitress gives me terrible service they get a penny from me!
A waiter friend of mine once told tme that leaving a penny is the ultimate slap in the face, so that is what I do. If a waiter/waitress gives me normal service I give them 20%, but if the server is giving me outstanding service I give them more then that.

I do the same, but here, I make sure he knows I didn´t like the service even before tipping time, that way he has a chance to fix the way he serves us. If he doesn´t, then it will show in the tip. In Paris we had a very 'french' (sorry for the generalization! ;) ) waiter and we made sure we didn´t leave anything for him. Of course, we weren´t even sure if he had already spitted in our food... On the 'contraire' we had an extremely nice french waiter serving us another night and he got a very good tip from us - even posed for pictures...and gave me a surprise kiss on the cheek - he was cute, so it didn´t matter!

A waitress at Applebees was an alright waitress to me and my friend. I had some crappy meal and he had worse. So when we got the check we both payed for what we got. No big deal. We were gonna work it out at home when we both had exact change to ive each other. So he pays for the lunch, I pay when we're at the movies. After an overview of how much change the waitress gives us, we notice she cheaped us out. How much you ask? A whopping 20 cents! Actually I'm not sure, but I know it's under 50 cents. So what did we leave her? The change she gave us. She made 23 cents in tips from the 2 of us.

I've also left a penny for really bad service, but I have left more than 20% for exceptional service also. I have noticed a big difference in the way I am treated when I'm out alone (usually well) or when I have the kids with me (not always the greatest  )

I have never had a waiter come out after us, but thats really rude. I would definatly let the manager know about the poor service and the waiter's actions.

Try to remember we all have bad days...maybe this was his?
Give them another chance, especially if you enjoy the food/atmosphere.

on our last trip to Disney, on the way home we were in a hurry so we decided to stop at shoney's for dinner. We wanted just the soup and salad bar and I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich. well they told us the bar was $5.99. They waited until the rest of the family got their food and then came back and said its after 5, you have to pay for the whole bar. Then they couldn't get the grilled cheese right. I asked for two pieces of bread and a slice of american cheese. They brought back two pieces of bread, slice of american cheese, and some clear jelly stuff stuffed in between the two pieces of bread. I sent it back and they still didn't get it right. Then when we complained to the manager, she basically told us to get the **** out of the restaurant. I wrote them a pretty nasty letter but have not gotten a reply back. Its been 3 months. Never stop at the shoney's in Selma, NC off of I-95. BAD SERVICE by the way, she got no tip

Yeah that reminds me of the time we went to Benigans(sp) here. We ordered our drinks and meal at the same time. Well when we got our food my dads sandwich had the wrong meat, my moms chicken salad was missing the chicken, my meal didnt even come, and the only thing they got right was the drinks and my bros grilled cheese. Well we talked to the girl she said sorry, and then she was like o yeah forgot to put your daughters order down..sorry..... Well that didnt make mommy very happy...we talked to a manager who said we didnt have to pay for the meal but we had to pay for our drinks (which were barley touched)....yeah we dont eat there anymore...cause i went there a year or two ago and ordered cheese sticks and they were still frozen in the middle ewwww...

lol... nobody knows how to spell it!

We weren't impressed (obviously) last time, which was a shame as when we first came to Florida in 1991 we loved Benigans (using Atta's spelling! :D ). I remember getting a free watch that you slapped at your wrist and the strap curled round... fantastic! :king:

wow i cant believe all the rotten luck at bennigan's!! I love it at ours...the only thing they are REALLY bad at is they need to learn that appetizers come BEFORE the meal not WITH

We were at Dennys a couple of months ago and we ordered our drinks...15 MINUTES LATER the waitress came back to get our order...then someone else brought our FREEZING COLD food (after such a long long long wait) I complained to the manager and he took 10% off our check (FOUR DOLLARS??!!) I was so mad I told him I would never be back and that B got a dime for a tip!

Now, if I sense bad service I just inform them that I will not be eating there and I leave. We were at Friendly's a couple of weeks ago and they sat us right away but we were sitting for 10 or 15 minutes and still no one had greeted us. I told Joel Im not waiting any longer and I brought the menu's up to the front and said I dont think you want our business and I left.

I just remembered! TGIF, a place I love and frequent A LOT here... I had three bad services in a row -the worse of them being with my whole family and my dad paying (he rarely complains of anything but his daughter has worked in the service industry and she DOES! hehe).
When I got home, two days later and calmed down, I went on their website and wrote an honest and polite letter to the manager (which knew my face from being a costumer, but not my name yet) and told him of each of my experiences, two in the restaurant and one on their delivery service -which I also used a lot-. He gave me a call and sent me my money back and a complimentary meal. I was happy, he made up for it, and I keep on going there a lot.
Now they know my name and recetly, I got a frequent costumer card for free that gives me a 10% off :D

Worst meal I had was at a now (unsurprisingly) out of business restaurant in Bath. The food was dreadful and the service insipid. It was a christmas meal for which we had paid the deposit. We refused to pay the balance of the meal (as is our legal right). The manager showed no emotion up to the point he realised he was not going to get paid, then he tried to throw us out - which is difficult as we were already half way out of the door
