The last time I ate at Bennigans (I believe that's the correct spelling) we gave our waitress a $150 tip because she was awesome. Our bill was $400 so it's only a 38% tip, but it was insane to see that on the bill. It was a "welcome home" gift for my younger brother's best friend's brother who just came back from serving in Iraq (101st airborn).

Last night my girlfriend and I and several other people ate at The Machine Shed (it's a Midwest thing I guess) and our waitress was excellent. She actually cared about us, answered everything we asked, even went up to other guests to see if they liked certain things that we asked about. I guess if they take the time to make the meal fun and keep us entertained, along with good food quality and service of the place overall, they get a really nice tip. Otherwise, they get the typical 15% tip from me.

At waffle house on one occasion, the service was horrible! The waitress brought me a waffle with a roach poking out of it!!!! I sent it back and she came off as if I were taking up to much of her time. Throughout that particular meal, other stuff happened like waiting 15 minutes for utensils, coffee not ever being refilled even after the request. A total ngihtmare and the place wasn't even at capacity, with other waitresses there working. When we left, we didn't leave a tip and she also came out into the parking lot to ask for her tip. I reminded her that "TIP" means To Insure Prompt Service, something we were denied that day. I didn't go back to eat there for over a year.
At Disney world, we ate at the brown derby one night and the wait staff was horrible! At the time, my hubby and I were in our very early twenties and our son had not been born yet. We went to Disney for a wedding weekend and had decided to stay on a few more days. Anyway, by the time we made it to the Brown Derby, we had the appearance of anyone on vacation for a few days not caring what they looked like. To be quite honest, we looked scruffy:) We walked into the BD and asked if any tables were available. The hostess said right this way but acted cold and aloof. Not a big deal except we watched her bring families into the restuarant and she was very talkative, explaining the toons and history of the place, telling others to watch their step and such. Okay, maybe we caught her after she broke up with her boyfriend or something. But, then there was the waiter! He came off the same way. We watched him with other tables acting very freindly yet when he was at our table he was rude, it bothered him to answer our questions, he didn't refill our drinks, or offer desert, in fact he was litterally trying to take our plates while we were still eating!!!! Huge Jerk! I left him a penny for his service. I have found that leaving change is more insulting than leaving nothing. The bad thing is that we are really easy to wait on. We ate at Cinderella's royal table for dinner that night and tipped the waitress %100 of the bill just for being nice and refilling our drinks. She was really happy and I'm glad we were able to do that because she earned it! We gave her the extra money we had by not tipping the other guy. During that time in our lives we were both bartenders on Bourbon street and understood the value of a tip and always tipped more than we needed to. To bad for the guy at BD.

100% tip, huh? Cool. The highest I've done is 50% of the bill which came to a $20 tip for the server I mentioned in an earlier post. Such a sweetie, that one. Even my wife loved her and agreed that she deserved the tip and that I should try to get her as my server from now on(hence the becoming one of her regulars remark).

Ashley, I would have left about the same tip! When I go into a restaurant, the server starts off at 15%. They can go up or down from there. It's all up to the server.

When I was in college, there was a diner right across the street. Sometimes my friends and I would treat ourselves and go there for a nice lunch. There was this really nasty waitress there, about our age, who preferred to wait on the guys rather than the girls. Subsequently as a girl, you would wind up with poor service. One time, all of the orders came out wrong and she gave us a hard time about it. We left her a tip though...a quarter in the bottom of a water glass!

WOW! This brings back bad memories! I went to Joe's Crab Shack in Mobile, AL. We had horrible service and even worse food. It was an awful experience. It is now closed so we were obviously not the only ones who didn't like it. I've only had bad service once in WDW and of all places, it was at Cinderellas Royal Table (one of our favs). I complained considerably!

I've had a waiter chase us down in the parking lot to ask for a tip. It was at Don Pablo's in Mobile. This guy was AWFUL!!!! He screwed up our drink orders....finally got them fixed and then NEVER refilled them, even after I asked him several times. I finally had to get a manager to refill them. He screwed up our food order and when we finally got the right food, it was cold. We asked for the check and he just told us the amount and didn't want to bring the actual check. He did after I complained. I even complained to the manager. He didn't even offer to comp the meal or even provide a discount or anything. So the guy got nothing! He comes running out of the restaurant screaming, "What did I do? Why didn't I get a tip?" SO I procede to tell him everything he did wrong. Then he asked, "Well, do I get a tip?" I just laughed at him, got in my car and drove away. The idiocy of some people never ceases to amaze me!!!

BTW....Don Pablo's closed shortly after that.

on our trip before last to disney, we did the character breakfast at the grand floridian, Park Fare. The characters would not come into the middle where we were seated. They stayed in the back. We told the manager and he rounded up all of the characters and told them they had to visit the middle section too. Well 30 minutes went by and still no characters. the manager dragged pooh over by his hands and pooh hugged my little cousin, walked over to the table across from us, tapped a 6 year old on the head, ignored the 2 year old and walked back to the back where all the characters had been the whole time. the 2 year old was left crying pooh doesn't like me. The waitress got a wonderful tip, the characters got a nasty email.

That is soo sad:cry: I know that sometimes the character people can't see everything, but it is a shame no one noticed that this poor little kid was so upset over the situation. I'm realy suprised that the waitstaff didn't bring pooh back to cheer the child up.
