Uh...do you live at the movies?

My top ten.

1. The Departed
2. Cars (tie with Rocky)
3. Rocky Balboa (tie with Cars)
4. Casino Royale
5. Superman Returns
6. X-Men 3
7. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
8. Eight Below
9. Snakes on a Plane
10. Hostel

I did see The Good Shepherd and thought it was a borefest. Great cinematography (if it doesn't win I'll be shocked) and great acting...but the story really doesn't go anywhere.

I don't see that many movies, so here's my top five:

1. Apocalypto ( one of the best films I've ever seen period )

2. Pirates of the Caribean Dead Man's Chest ( an amazing action adventure movie that's fun to watch )

3. Flags of our Fathers ( amazing war film. Not as good as Saving Private Ryan, but all around a great movie )

4. Cars ( Pixar can do no wrong! )

5. X3 ( some didn't like it, but I thought it was a worthy predesessor to the other movies )

I really need to get out and see more movies. Maybe I'll do that next year!

2006 was overall a great year for movies. I care not for what the critics say. I don't think I've seen this many good movies in one year.

For me:

1. Cars - This is my favorite animated movie period. Yeah I can't belive I said that either, especially since I don't care for cars and I hate NASCAR. But the heart and humor of this movie was off the charts. Nobody makes me cry like Pixar and this one really tugs on the heartstrings.

2. Talladega Nights - Not quite as good or funny as Anchorman, but what is? I swear I hate NASCAR, but my top two movies feature car racing. Of course, I didn't care what this Ferrell/McKay movie was about as long as it was that same type of humor as Anchorman.

3. POTC: Dead Man's Chest - I don't get all the negative publicity about this movie. I am glad this was a very different from the first film and the ending was PERFECT.

4. Click - Call me crazy, but I enjoyed this movie as much as any other Sandler film. I love his style of humor and I love his formula. Also the emotional scenes really hit me hard. There's one scene here that might be the saddest thing I've seen in a movie, much less coming from a Sandler comedy.

5. Superman Returns - An excellent follow up to the original film. Singer is gold when it comes to comic book movies and after watching X3, you could tell how much he ment to that series. I mean X3 was ok, but I think this movie was brilliant.

6. Borat - Not quite as good as the skits from Da Ali G Show, but still a hillarious romp. I love this character.

7. V For Vendetta - I thought the style and story for V was extremely solid and it seems to get better on repeat viewings.

8. The Break Up - Talk about a surprise. I'm not a fan of romantic comedies, so that is probably why I fell in love with this movie. This is truely the anti-romantic comedy, even though it wasn't marketed that way. Vince Vaughn has NEVER been better than he was here and Aniston contines to prove she's more than just a pretty face.

9. United 93 - Excellent film that was difficult to watch. However, the acting was unreal coming from mostly non-actors. This felt like a documentary.

10. Snakes on a Plane - Perfect blend of campy horror and comedy. I was laughing out loud constantly and enjoyed the whole ride.

I'm just going from memory here, but I think this is basically accurate. I still have yet to see some of the movies on the critic's lists, so consider that list very incomplete. I don't go to the theater much because of prices and obnoxious people, so I usually wait for DVD unless it is an event movie I want to see immediately.

Thanks for posting that list, NemoRocks. Geez, another crappy year at the movies. At least there weren't as many political flicks this year as last year. I'll have to give a top 10 list some thought. "Rocky Balboa," "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Thank You For Not Smoking" will be on it. I want to see "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Apocolypto," but haven't had a chance. I think I'd have an easier time coming up with a list of 10 movies I hated. Maybe later...

There were a bunch that I wanted to see, but life got in the way.
These are the ones that I did see:

1. Casino Royale (I've only seen it twice and both times I enjoyed myself immensely...smiling the entire time)
2. Talladega Nights (I hate Nascar, I guess that's why this movie is soooooo funny to me)
3. V for Vendetta (A very pleasant surprise)
4. Superman Returns (I don't know much about Superman, but I LOVE the new wave of Superhero movies. They are very well done)
5. PotC: Dead Man's Chest (A good movie, not great, but good.)
6. Underworld: Evolution (Kate Beckinsale is HOTT and the movie is ultra cool)

My top ten:

1. Deja Vu - I had been looking forward to this movie for a while (Tony Scott fan) and I was incredibly glad that it turned out to be very good. The movie didn't do too well in the box office, but I thought it was the best movie all around that came out this year. It had lots of great action and style, and Denzel Washington was awesome in it.
2. Snakes on a Plane - This is a very, very close second. Most people seemed to think SoaP was really bad, but I think that's what made it good. It didn't lie to you. It delivered on what it promised. Movies don't have to be Oscar winners to be good movies, that's what makes me hate most snobby movie critics and viewers. Sure, the movie's premise was pretty out there, but it was extremely entertaining.
3. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - Definitely the funniest movie of the year. Sasha Baron Cohen wasn't afraid to make a completely politically incorrect movie, which is definitely my kind of humor.
4. V for Vendetta - I could've sworn this came out last year until I looked it up. A very good action movie with some insightful thought into the power of government and why we as citizens shouldn't let the government have too much control over our "safety."
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - I think it speaks for itself, especially on these forums. Very good installment to the Pirate series. Looking forward to the conclusion.
6. Children of Men - Just saw this yesterday, and it's a very good movie. The cinematography was what really stood out to me. It's very gritty and realistic in texture, which makes it so much more suspenseful and awesome in my book. Unfortunately it's not showing in my area right now (Don't ask how I saw it :lookaroun ), but I am looking forward to seeing it on the big screen in the near future (let's hope).
7. Inside Man - Second Clive Owen movie in a row, eh? Inside Man puts a really awesome twist on the normal heist movie. The movie jumps right into the action and doesn't let up. Very good.
8. Casino Royale - The movie was very entertaining and full of action, which I usually looks for in movies, but the movie just didn't feel like a Bond movie. The story wasn't explain as thoroughly as I'd like it to be. Most of the time I was asking myself why they were doing what they were. Don't get me wrong though, it's still a good, entertaining movie, which is why it is where it is on the list.
9. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby - Obviously not as funny as Borat, but still a decent comedy for the year.
10. The Departed - A very good movie with amazing actors. I'm sure someone will criticize me for having it below so many others, but I just couldn't help but enjoy other action movies like Deja Vu a lot more than The Departed.

Honorable Mentions: Click, Cars, Silent Hill (Hey, I liked it!)

That's my list for now, but I know I'm forgetting some movies...
