The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

In-n-Out is without a doubt one of the most overrated fast food restaurants. Tastes so bland and menu is too small.
Thank you! I don’t mind the simple menu—it’s their trademark—but I find the burgers and fries so bland that now I just get the grilled cheese when I’m there (the rest of my family loves In n’ Out).

I’m starting to think it’s a taste-buds thing, the same way some people can’t stand Hershey chocolate (I’m NOT in the anti-Hershey group). My mouth just isn’t wired for In n’ Out.

I do, however, always enjoy the lively atmosphere and courteous staff.

I would also think its regional too. If you grew up on In-n-Out, its probably in your taste palate. But if you grew up on FatBurger, Checkers, or any other regional burger joint you might not like In-n-Out as much.

And—my taste buds aside—I’ll also give major points to In n’ Out for consistent high-quality experience. While I’d actually choose a well-run Jack-In-The-Box or Taco Bell over In n’ Out, the “well-run” is the difference between delicious and never-again. In n’ Outs are always well-run.

I'll grant you that In-N-Out isn't the most jaw-droppingly delicious burger out there... but for me it's tied to so many great memories outside of just food. It's an atmosphere place with quality food, relatively well-priced, and consistent from restaurant to restaurant. And I don't care what anyone else says, nothing beats a fresh double double and animal fries after you've been out of CA on a trip somewhere.

Bonus tip: take the food home, add sriracha and avocado and you'll never look back.

A double-double with no tomato, with pickles, raw onions, and extra spread with animal fries and a coke is one of the most delicious meals on earth. Ya’ll trippin.’

Jack-in-the-Box and Taco Bell over In-N-Out? Nah, fam.

In-N-Out over Jack or Taco Bell any day. My go to right now is a double double, no onions, no tomato, add ketchup and add pickles. Every once in a while I start altering it since I probably eat there 1-2x a week because my son is picky and it’s one of the few things he eats no fuss.

Well said. In-N-Out is a cultural institution out here. It’s not that it’s the best burger ever. It’s just quality, cheap, convenient and fresh. Great customer service too.

Objectively do I think five guys has a better burger? Yes. But they don’t have a drive thru on every corner and are a lot heavier. In-N-Out also has more repeatability because of how light it is.

I think I've eaten at Five Guys less than a handful of times. Whenever I pass the one in town, I just think, eh, maybe next time. I do remember the heaviness though. I can eat In-N-Out on the go, but after Five Guys, I need a nap.

Five Guys is awesome! The key is to get the little burger and one order of fries per family (they will fill the bag anyway). It's less of a gut bomb that way. And... free peanuts! :D

I prefer the Habit. Five Guys and Smashburger is gross. Their salads are pretty good too.

Five Guys is delicious but it's pretty expensive. First time I went I ordered a burger and didn't know they did two patties standard for whatever I ordered online so I added another patty for a double but ended up with a triple. It tasted good but the cross section looked like meat loaf in a bun and I was so freaking full after but it was worth it. If I ever want a quick cheap burger In-N-Out is my go to, way better than any other fast food restaurant. Plus two semesters ago I had a Biology night class and on lab nights me and my two friends in the class got out at 9:30-10:00 PM so every other restaurant near us was closed so we would all go get In-N-Out since we were hungry after a 4-5 hour lecture / lab block.
