The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Good point on HK

In regards to Tokyo get them wanting to move away from the copy cat park identity especially if they re that limited in expansion space. It’s just unfortunate IMO when that change = a huge loss of water, trees and foliage. That’s the kind of place making that contributes greatly to the Disney difference.

I wonder what locals in Tokyo would bring their pitchforks out for?
The younger generation might be different, but as far as I'm aware the Japanese aren't a culture known for speaking out against changes to locales like Americans are, maybe something of cultural significance like a temple or something but not a theme park. They are known to be more reserved in that regard.

Yeesh, the foaming-at-the-mouth outrage of that NY Post article! As though written by someone who has never been outside ever. Someone give them a hug and take them to a park.

You'd be surprised at how little water there is at TDL. It really is mostly just the river, which is shunted off to the side and cut off by the railroad, so you're largely unaware of it unless you're in Critter Country or going out of your way to visit the tiny portion of Westernland that actually borders the river.

Just oceans and oceans of ugly multicolored slurry walkways.

I mean, they waited like seven hours for the very last Mickey meet and greet to have the old, pre-Shanghai character heads. I don't know if they bring out the pitchforks per se, but boy are they willing to wait eons to say goodbye.

Honestly, I see them being more upset about Splash than literally anything else on entire western side of the park-hence why so much of it is up in the air now, future-wise. It was/is easily the most popular attraction from the US at the park. I'm not even sure what number two would be TBH.

The logical inference of the sign removal would be that they're moving closer towards ride removal, but I don't know, there's a part of me that still isn't quite convinced it's imminent.

Who knows for how much longer, they just removed their Zip goodbye sign a couple days ago, making all references to it now gone from all Disney Parks.

So clearly OLC is not as nostalgic as some would hope, and would guess that even Splash's days at TDL might be numbered.

Last Spring my cruise was play off twice (once in Tokyo and once in a southern port) by highschool bands playing Zip. I’m not getting strong tea leaves from a sponsorship exit sign.

Maybe, but a band playing off guests from a cruise ship almost a year ago isn’t indication of it staying either.

Also wasn’t there a HS band that played Zip in WDW last year also. So in both cases that could be examples of HS band directors doing something that wasn’t Disney (or OLC in your case) sanctioned and not indication of anything else.

It was just an interesting amount of cultural cache to me.

The externalized domestic pressure to convert seems less relevant by the day the longer they don’t. If they’ve moved away from the River towards Jungle cruise as their next major project site, that also seem to lessen the imminent probability.

Again maybe, I just think it’s days are numbered and on borrowed time until OLC find a project they want to use to replace it.

Sure, but it’s days were supposedly numbered almost 6 years ago. This signage change was driven by a sponsorship change.

Ocam’s Razor and all that. I’m not saying it’s improbable, I’m just saying this isn’t “the sign” I’m looking for.

Except isn’t the sponsor still sponsoring other things in the Resort like TSMM and some hand washing stations? And so why drop just this attraction if you’re still sponsoring other things? You know Ocam’s Razor also would say if you’re just removing a sponsor you don’t get rid of the whole “Have a Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Day” message. So while it might not be “the” sign, it might be “a” sign of things to come.

If it remains unsponsored, yes that’s a good sign.

Looks like it's a cold and rainy day in SoCal today. As per usual, Knott's Berry Farm and Magic Mountain closed entirely, even though it's President's Day and was supposed to be a busy day.

Looking at the Disneyland wait times, it's dead there too even though the park is open until Midnight tonight. It's 51 degrees and steady rain at 3:30pm in Anaheim. 💧🥶

I saw bonkers lines to get into the park but evidently they sorted themselves out? I too was surprised at the very reasonable wait times I saw when I looked.
