Those don't even exist anymore. I would say your argument is completely backwards. Historically, Reddit was intellectually diverse. Now, it's entirely one sided. Go to r/all and find one right wing post. Anything that doesn't fit the narrative of Reddit moderators and admins (side note, did you know Ghislaine Maxwell, wife of Jeffrey Epstein, was a Reddit admin?) is banned and scrubbed and removed from the site.

The point is moreso is that those factions haven’t gone away. Voat failed, Truth Social is whatever, 4chan isn’t as big as it once was, and Twitter is… Twitter. They’re still on Reddit.

I don’t doubt that a lot of the Reddit admin leans left, but I think they’re more interested in the almighty dollar like our pals at Disney. Also I do remember the Maxwell stuff, she may have been a mod, which is whatever. Being an admin would have been kinda crazy.

Having been alive but possessing no recollection of the day, I found it a very informative and well done museum.

I remember the day like it was 2 weeks ago. I had taken that entire week off to do some stuff around the house and then was going to La Jolla for a long weekend. On Tuesday, 9/11... Turning on the radio at 7:30ish am and hearing odd commentary instead of music.... Wandering out to the living room and turning on the TV after the second plane had hit the second tower and falling back onto the couch. Then to hear the Pentagon had been hit, all planes were grounded nationwide, and the President was aboard Air Force One but not yet headed to DC because DC may be hit by.... something.

The rest of the morning and afternoon were a blur, but the TV was still on. About 4pm I went down the hill to the Ralph's Fresh Fare to get some groceries. They'd turned off the Muzak, and the store was quiet but still open. I saw a few familiar neighborhood faces and we smiled tightly at each other, but no one talked. But oddly, the fact that Ralph's was open was comforting.

I was worried about the entire country for weeks. Michael Eisner gave a nice speech a few days later on Disneyland's Town Square. Memorably, about a month later, Haunted Mansion Holiday opened for the first time. And it was a HUGE hit, and the lines were long, and people smiled, and it seemed like America would survive. But it was a very rough couple of weeks.

My pain and turmoil was very minor, but still memorable. I don't know that I need to visit a museum to see the immense pain so many of my fellow Americans went through that day at the hands of Islamic terrorists. The office secretaries that burned to death at their desks. The stewardesses who had their throats slit in the galleys of jetliners to bleed out alone. The passengers sending short texts to loved ones on 2001 flip phones before their plane exploded into the ground. The terrified payroll managers that jumped to their death from the 90th floors of their offices to avoid a worse fate via fire. Etc., etc.

It's not something I would want to pair with a fun vacation weekend, I'm afraid.

The like I gave your post is because I feel the same way as you. It was a horrible day (and days after). I think it is wonderful that there is a museum and memorials built for people to honor and remember the innocents of that day and to learn about the event but I think it would be tough to see. Someday I will probably go but I will need to be in the correct headspace for it. And someone earlier mentioned the price and I don't think $30 is too much for the museum, seems pretty on par with other museums that aren't the Smithsonian.

I’d been looking forward to the reveal of the Wizard of Oz land at Australia’s Movie World park. YouTube walk-throughs of the newly opened area have hit and…. I really encourage everyone to check one or two out, because it will really make you appreciate Universal and Disney (and Knott’s and Sea World and Busch Gardens and Lego Land) all the more. Yikes. I don’t remember Oz ever looking so warehouse-y and visible-office-car-parking-right-there-y (though to be fair, that bit is in “Kansas”.) And y’know what can really spoil the magic of the Yellow Brick Road? Big honkin’ concrete Superman coaster support footers on it—Literally ON the Yellow Brick Road.

There are nice bits here and there: Oz’s throne room is kinda cool, the indoor queues for the 2 coasters are excellent, the photo-op actors are giving it their all, and… the paint colors are on-point.

But I had my expectations set waaaay too high for this.

The Wizard of Oz has so much theme park potential it's a shame the only good representation it's ever received is in the Great Movie Ride.

It's a shame the Wonderful World of Oz park was never built. Could have been an incredible theme park in Middle America.

Alright, I got way too gloomy with that 9/11 post this week. Sorry, gang, I don't know where my Christmas cheer went to.

Once the Christmas spirit hits me in mid December, I have a couple of cherished traditions I do as I decorate and/or cook and/or get ready to host. One is to watch the 1968 Dean Martin Christmas Special, and another is to watch the 1986 Pee Wee Herman Christmas Special. The 2 minute opening number to the Pee Wee special alone is a masterpiece of good cheer, rivaled only in my opinion by the Viva Navidad! show at DCA that TDA so wisely cut down to weekends only now. This show also featured Annette Funicello during her mid 1980's career comeback!

Wherever this holiday season finds you, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and that we can all find laughter and loved ones surrounding us! Pee Wee and I, plus a musically talented platoon of US Marines and a gaggle of fabulous celebrity guests, would have it no other way!

So we are 2 weeks away from Believe’s run coming to an end. The schedule weekends in January only has “Fire of the Rising Moons” as the firework show, it’s starting to give me hope that Mickey’s Mix Tragic will not be the show in the rest of the park. Anyone know if my hopes should be crushed, or is it too much to ask for a proper show for this winter. I assume Wonderous Journeys won’t start till the 70th, but could they maybe do Disneyland Forever or Together Forever instead?

The Enchant MK's are a pretty good value but the blackouts during the holidays are rough. We've only been to the parks twice in the last 90 days and both times were in November, one in the little off week between Halloween and Christmas. Guess we're not so unfavorable after all Hahah.

I'll probably stick with the Enchant MK though. The blackouts were exacerbated by the fact that my wife and I both started new jobs in September so we weren't really in a place to take weekdays off to go to Disneyland.

Likely not renewing our Magic Keys. Hadn't had them since covid so was fun to get them
again and definitely went a lot this last year but we will just visit during christmas time and use the key money for a hotel instead.

Yes! on your Christmas special suggestions. I rewatched "A Muppet Family Christmas" for the first time probably since 1987 and recommend highly for anyone looking for holiday cheer! I also had a DVD of the Judy Garland Christmas Show I had never watched - definitely a different time (1963) but worth a watch if you can find it.

We think the value is still good as we get a lot of use out of ours - mostly from January to May but were a little on the fence as the prices have gone up and the blackouts have gotten worse. The 70th was kind of the tie breaker. 2026 though we may take a year off and allocate those funds towards a WDW trip.

Have you ever done a Disney cruise (or any other cruise)? You might want to take the kids on one down to Mexico for 3-4 days. The food on a Disney cruise has been the best so far. However the service has been better on Royal Caribbean and there is more to do on a Carnival cruise. Disney has less shipboard activities that you just show up for creating long lines.

For us the value isnt bad looking at one day prices, when I look at multiday prices or the now yearly year round "3 day ticket deals" it became a bit murky for us.

Hope the 70th is a good time, I feel the celebration will be somewhat subdued for the 75th in 5 years.

Variety is key, I’ve never kept my Magic Key (or AP) more than a year. I prefer to do a three year rotation between Universal Orlando, WDW and DLR. Covid messed that up (I owned a WDW pass for 3.5 years, UOAP 2.5 years) but after my UOAP expires next month I’m going back to just owning one of those a year.
