I expected to hear nothing.

I’m content.
Exactly, anyone expecting some major project to have been announced today was setting themselves up for big disappointments.

Outside of a handful of "cloned" projects like MMRR for DL there haven't been really many major projects announced (if any) at Destination D23. So all one had to do is look at the track record of the venue to know that there wasn't likely very many if any new announcements to happen.

Look I would have LOVED a new major project announcement to have occurred today, especially for DLR. But I knew going in that it wasn't likely going to happen so I didn't set myself up for disappointment. I'm just happy that they confirmed that the Avengers E-Ticket is still happening.

I learned a LONG time ago I have to temper my expectations when it comes to things surrounding Disney.

You call it accepting lower levels of mediocrity, I call it not having high expectations and then being broken-hearted and disappointed when those high expectations aren't met.

I don’t think we can take anything as “confirmation” anymore with the rate that they ve been cancelling projects. It’s just fanfare.

They teased us with Moana/ Zootopia for AK last year and this year it turned into Indy/ Encanto (which I think is a better idea). What will it be next year?

On another I had pitched a South America version of Fantasy Springs for Disneyland Forward which included UP, Saludos Amigos and Encanto attractions. You’re Welcome Disney. Jk haha. I bet we can thank Bruce Vaughn for thwarting the Zootopia stuff.

Right. Either that or they just wanted another opportunity to complain. I can bet most of us weren’t actually expecting any big news, including the complainers.

As my mom says, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I mean sure nothing is really truly confirmed until there are shovels in the ground, even then its not 100%.

But those "Blue sky" concepts from last year were just that, Blue sky. They were never real project announcements, just a peek into things they were thinking about, again like today. So anyone expecting those wouldn't change is again setting themselves up for disappointment.

Zootopia coming to US Parks is still not out of the realm of possibilities I would say. If its a smash hit in SDL and Zootopia 2 is a success at theaters you can bet they'll look to try and bring it to the US Parks in some way.

I doubt anyone on this coast was expecting big announcements for DLR today. But at WDW there were folks there expecting those types of announcements for the WDW parks that desperately need them. And instead they got a short list of deferred maintenance items at WDW that Josh is going to get around to in 2024. Maybe '25.

Here's what I said last night that would be the best case Anaheim scenario for today's announcements...

I think the best we can hope for out of tomorrow's little show is an announcement about a new night parade for DCA or Disneyland, and/or a new stage show for DCA's Hyperion.

But Josh couldn't do that. He's got nothing big approved for either coast, and nothing is currently under construction.

The next three or four years are going to be very, very boring for Disney theme parks in America. 😴

Come on now, you’re exaggerating.

If you were to poll Disney theme park fans coast to coast, they would all have at the top of their priority list:

- Update “problematic” songs in the Country Bear Jamboree

Again its called knowing the venue. Major new project announcements don't really happen at this event, for any Disney Park, those happen at D23 Expo now called D23 The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

So wait until next summer, if there isn't a major project announced for either US Resort next year then maybe one can say they are "lost" as you said. Or like I said maybe don't go in expecting anything so you aren't disappointed to begin with.

It's only funny because it's so sad.

And I'm really going to miss that ladder joke. :(

Id be a lot more understanding about these things if the driver was to increase attendance or if they came from imagineering and not the DEI department.

Don’t worry, once 2023 WDI and DEI get hold of it, it will be a HUGE improvement!

Sensing “momma don’t whoop Little Buford, we think you should shoot him instead” is causing scandalous pearl clutching at TDO and will be replaced by a much more “progressive” message.

And certainly Big Al and Trixie will need to be presented in a much more “body positive” way.

And the three cute, clearly female gender identifying bears, singing about “all the guys who turn them on, turn them down” is not the female empowerment message we need to be sending to young girls today.

The update is going to be fantastic!
Just another reason to go to Universal instead.

I can't say I was expecting anything, it feels like the last time they announced something big at one of these fan events for Disneyland was D23 2017 six years ago.

How did they frame todays AKs announcement? They didn’t call it Blue Sky but they didn’t confirm anything. So I guess that’s a step in the right direction? Did they even say “Indiana Jones or Encanto?” They re obviously being very careful about how they present these things. Last year it was “Blue Sky.” This year we showed new concept art with different attractions, still didn’t confirm anything but we didn’t say Blue Sky so we swear it’s more real this time.

It was framed as "Blue Sky stuff we're thinking about" again, no actual firm project announcement.

And yes they used the actual term Blue Sky when talking about these projects.

I hate the format they’ve been presenting these ideas in so much. It’s awkward and stupidly misleading if ideas change or don’t get built.

I will say though, I do appreciate that they prefaced this segment a LOT better than they did at the Expo. It’s still strange, but at least the concepts were spoken about in better context and understanding of the development stage.

Worse than I thought. I didn’t realize they referred to todays AK stuff as Blue Sky too.
This why anyone reading too much into these things was setting themselves up for disappointment. They were never real announcements, just a sneak peek into the Blue Sky concepts they are thinking about.

And yes they talked about Encanto and Indy as part of the Blue Sky concepts.

I agree, however I would say that its on the fandom for reading too much into something that is specifically presented as "Blue Sky". But the fandom and internet being what is it, Disney could literally say "hey here is concept art for a project that will never actually happen but we wanted to show you anyways" and some vlogger somewhere will say Disney confirms x coming to Disney Parks.
