When Mary Tyler Moore passed away, I was seriously considering a sudden weekend trip to see her hat throwing statue and Phyllis Lindstrom's house and the office building that WJM was in and that fancy atrium restaurant that she was having lunch in during the opening credits.

I forget why I talked myself out of it, but now I kind of wished I'd done it.

I used to change planes in Minneapolis when Northwest Orient was often my airline of choice, but I never made it into the actual city.
You could still visit. A friend and I ate at the Mary Tyler Moore table one afternoon. We wanted to pretend we were having a mid-century ladies power lunch. Unfortunately, the restaurant has since been replaced and renovated so the exact table is gone.

You often speak of your Swedish heritage -- perhaps a visit to the American Swedish Institute museum would also be in order. It has a lovely cafe where you could have coffee and a dessert. Then you could hop on a Delta flight and head over to Stockholm!

I was in Minneapolis on business yesterday so before my flight home, I checked out the Mall of America. They have ride there called Flying Over America. It's pretty much a flying theater just like Soarin' over California. They have two movies. America and Hawaii. I did the America one. It follows beat for beat Soarin' over California. A lot of scenes were copies from California like the fighter jets flying over the desert and the city fly throughs. They even did the skier jumping and flying over the Golden Gate Bridge. The movie is much better than Soarin' over the World since there isn't much CG. The ride mechanism has you walk up stairs to the upper levels. The the chairs move out about ten feet into the screen. The benches are just like DCAs. It was fun ride for a ripoff.

We have one in Vancouver also!

I hope you got to see more of Minneapolis than MoA!

Was the ride worth it? I haven't been on it yet, but I've been tempted.
I enjoyed it, though I have to say I preferred the Hawaii film to the America one (you can sample both with a combo pass. I liked that I didn't even have to leave my seat-they just let us stay in the theater while they changed over to the second film!)
The Nick Universe was pretty cool. The ips were really old things like Fairly Odd Parents, Last Airbender, Dora and Sponge Bob. They had lots of flat rides with some decent family coasters. The Sponge Bob coaster is just a shorter version of Knott's Hang Time. They had a Ghost Blasters dark ride that was cute. The park is free to enter. You buy points for the rides. Someone was nice enough to give me their left over points. I did a couple of rides and still had some left over. I gave it to some one else.
Did you do the log flume? It's untouched from when the park was run by Knott's and it's pretty much Log Ride redux. It's fantastic!

I really want to go back and do all that because the only time I got into the city was to see my nephew when he was born and we wound up blizzared in the hospital the whole time I was there

AWESOME…!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Make sure you go with an open c o c kpit model, as it makes a beautiful difference…!!! :)
Also, in my last flight where we went up to 5,000 ft….
You can see from my pic that I was dressed very lightly. No matter how warm it is down on the ground, it is waaaaayyyyyyy cooler at that altitude, and I was shivering for a bit, so dress appropriately…!!! ;):)
$185 for half an hour, not bad at all.

You need to do an ultralight flight if you like touching the clouds. P.S. They have different rules for flying over airports in other countries.

Based on just one video, the FlyOver America show has too many vistas and does not allow for any of them to really breathe. Additionally, some of the movements feel very unnatural if you were in a hang glider. Of course, this is just based off a YouTube video; perhaps it’s better in person.

I have said, and will continue to say, a Soarin over the United States would be magnificent. With so much natural beauty and American landmarks to choose from, it could even be randomized like Star Tours II. As long as it’s not CGI, it would easily be better than Soarin around the World.

Cool…!!! :)
I got confused, and thought you meant somethin’ more like the paramotor below, which can be rigged for two people.
The dude goes up to 17,500 ft….!!! :)
And yes, you haven’t lived until you’ve touched the clouds, and I’m not talkin’ ground fog…!!! ;)

Apparently the lean and taut "Indiana Jones" circa I938 has been replaced with a softer and rounder guy from Fullerton Junior College (Go Hornets!) circa 2023 who had a fedora checked out to him from wardrobe.

I don't get it. And I'm not buying it. Do better, Disneyland.

I just find it funny that he hasn’t made an appearance in eons but has one of the most popular attractions in the park. The one time they bring him out is to promote a movie thats bound to flop :/

I was in line for it but it wasn't moving fast enough. I should have done it.

Isn't that the guy that plays Star lord?

If it is, it's apparently Star Lord from his noticeably less-svelte Parks & Rec days.

This is like a WDW Indiana Jones face character. And any Disneyland regular who has been to WDW knows what I'm talking about.

I expect better from Disneyland, because they have access to thousands of out of work actors who didn't get the callback on the Dr. Pepper commercial and so they take the theme park gig for the summer instead.

Never seen this concept art for DCA's entry before. Not sure if it's better than the Postcard entry, but I love the plants and water along the sides.

Where the hell did you find that??? I kind of like it, or at least like the thought process behind it. Very interesting.

I was at the park today. It was a clear beautiful day about 78 degrees with a nice breeze and the park was less crowded than I’ve seen in a while. I’m talking almost Summer of Galaxies Edge level. I’m talking wide open Fantasyland courtyard at 5pm. No gridlocks in any of the usual areas of the park. Every ride at Fantasyland at around 5pm except for Alice and Matterhorn had a 10 minute wait or less. It was glorious. Couldn’t figure out why. They even introduced the 3 day local Summer pass a couple weeks ago which includes a slight up charge for weekends. Schools have been out for two weeks. MMRR hasn’t even been open for 6 months. It’s strange that it was so nice. People have been saying weekdays have been busier than weekends these days.
