The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

It’s been 10 years and Big Thunder BBQ still doesn’t have a proper replacement at Disneyland. You would have thought GE would have been an ideal spot for something similar.
I guess the question is, what do you consider a "proper replacement". Because isn't Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree basically the replacement now?

Not bad for DLR considering the reservation requirements.

Interesting.

If I can think of ANY park that doesn't deserve a 15% bump based on how they're running, it'd be SeaWorld.

Seriously folks, if you think current Disneyland is broken, go down to SeaWorld for a day. It's quite illuminating how far they've fallen.

My Wicked: For Good Review That Eventually Ties In To Theme Parks:

(SPOILERS)

I just watched Wicked For Good. As a big Oz fan who has never seen the Wicked stage play, I enjoyed WFG overall, but not as much as Wicked Part 1. This second act amplifies both the best and worst aspects of that first half: Fantastic performances, with great music and art direction stuck in a story that stumbles on two major gaps.

And those gaps, easily fixable by even an additional sentence or two, remain bafflingly underdeveloped.

1. WHY IS THE WIZARD SO PARANOID ABOUT
ANIMALS??? This question, which the entire story arc revolves around, needed a good, clear, specific, character-driven answer, not just the vague political allegory shoulder-shrug reason the filmmakers apparently thought was enough to support a 5 hour musical epic. Something. Anything. Was the wizard traumatized by an animal encounter in his Kansas carny days? Can the animals of Oz sense the presence of magic and know the Wizard has none? Either of those takes, delivered in a single line of dialogue or brief flashback, could have fixed this saga’s biggest story problem.

2. What is Madame Morrible’s motivation, and how did she meet and team up with the Wizard? Did she always know he was a fraud? This point is not as big a story problem as the first, but since she is, after all, the main villain of these films, it would’ve been nice to know.

My only other gripe is specific to part 2 and comes from the perspective of an Oz fan: I loved how Part 1 cleverly managed to never contradict the events of The Wizard of Oz, but part 2 crosses that line—rather extremely—with the Tin Man and Scarecrow. (I did, however, love how whiney and grating Dorothy seems to Glinda and Elphaba in this film.😄)

And I didn’t like the “surprise” ending. Not the green bottle reveal—The other one. Meh.

But I gotta say, story aside, everything ELSE about Wicked For Good is so outstanding and marvelous that I enjoyed it immensely. Arianna Grande. Cynthia Arivo. Jeff Goldblum. The music. The design of the Land of Oz. The direction and editing. This a rare instance where a film series’ good points are so effective that the movies can be hugely entertaining despite (IMO) a story that fumbles its main source of conflict.

Part 1: A-

Part 2: B+

And as a park fan, I’m still hoping these films performed well enough financially to further encourage the Universal decision makers to bring Emerald City to Epic Universe or IoA with an E-Ticket Oz ride.

Shame that their take on pulled pork loaded fries seems to have disappeared from the menu.

No way! That’s was one of the best things. Yeah Disney is up to some funny business with the food this post holiday season. Portions and variety being cut down. In some cases quality too. Hopefully it’s short lived.

I do not consider Hungry Bear as a Big Thunder BBQ replacement.
Ok, so again what do you consider a "proper replacement"? I'm honestly asking. Because I can't imagine Disneyland ever having an "all-you-can-eat" BBQ place again, not with meat prices so high. So what does the "proper replacement" look like to you if its not Hungry Bear BBQ?

I thought only the sides were all you can eat, not the meat

Something that’s more like Big Thunder BBQ
Lol, that doesn't really answer it.

Is it the specific food items you're looking for? The theme? The missing animals? What?

I mean if they changed Hungry Bear to a western theme and added a few goats but kept the same food would that do it for you?
