The Mandalorian

I didn't see that promo but all you need to say is biker scout and I'm all in. That combo is by far my favorite thing in star wars outside of light sabers. That's whats been so great about this show. Unlike the movies where you see one Rodian in Rouge on, you have a great mix of old and new. I've been yapping about that since TFA. To think that not one species from the OT would be in JJs cantina or in Johnsons casino is crazy. So many cool new things to look at, and learn about. All while going "holy poop its a squidface!!!"
Almost like the people making it actually like Star Wars and aren’t just trying to be subversive.

It doesn’t have really anything to do with the product...well...one definitely.

It’s the signs/sequence of events shown, igers comments/strategic direction, and impact to the money making ability of the franchise tracked by business analysts since 2015:

People are canned in Hollywood for MUCH less.

The good example is justice league...the two studio heads at warner were brought in AFTER the movie was underway...but they took the fall and were fired after it flopped nonetheless. Somebody takes the fall to send a financial message.

And if they aren’t fired...you get a public show of support.

Did that happen at lucasfilm? Do a little investigating and then look at it.

Ok...anyway...back to the mandalorian...promo on nfl network tonight had scout troopers on speeder bikes.

Real ones...not “retakes” on them like the abrams/Johnson crap.
If we keep getting Jedi references...when the tech was cool and has lasted 35 years...i’m More than down with that.

You need a crash course in the spoiler tag. Discussing promos, which some people avoid, is more spoiler-y than people discussing an episode that has aired.

Episode 2 has got my brain going in all different directions. I love the tone and the pacing of the show so far. I dont even mind the music, it fits a bounty hunter I think. This show has breathed new life in this star wars franchise, an undivided life at that.
The problem with streaming service shows is that they run out of conflict too quickly and have no where to go.

Netflix/amazon have been notoriously guilty of this.

If they don’t have a semi-consistent 4 year story arc laid out...it will be hard to maintain the draw to it.

Very hard to pace a binge watch show.

Hopefully LFL has learned it’s mistakes. If you don’t have an outline...you’re done

I would hope that by this show's episode VIII that some of our expectations are subverted.
But I'm glad you all seem open to still enjoy new Star Wars. It is however easy for me to imagine that if they had made the Mandalorian female, the wall of nitpicky screeds this very same episode would earn here.

You’re 100% upside down on this.

The mistake they’ve made is that they’ve made no attempt to make Star Wars. The character and writing are for impulse audience responses...they aren’t “in” the alleged stories at all. Suspension of disbelief is one thing...never buying that the characters care about their “lives” at all Is another entirely.

Never a need to “subvert” anything...plenty of box office trash by gen x - y directors trying to do that.
I don’t want to be “surprised”...and nobody else does either that honestly matters. We want to be “uplifted” or “teared up”

This is complicated. In an increasingly “non-cerebral” world...directors fail trying to be cerebral.

Female characters?

We want good ones...haven’t gotten it. Doesn’t matter if she’s good (hint...Ashoka...and there’s rumors out there for this)...

What those screechers are complaining about...beneath their BS? Is that it’s ok still to have male heros too. Noting wrong with archetype and balance.

LFL is run by people that don’t get it. And Disney sells freight using princesses...I’ll just remind everyone. This has been a “glass house” operation with the captain of the titanic in charge

Wonder if any episodes will take place on Black Spire?
Yes, I know the time frame is much earlier, but certainly Black Spire existed in this time frame.
The general look of the locale's on the first episode were certainly evocative of Black Spire.
In any event, this series is an aid to the theme park land.

Would that get the wait time on MFSR above 25 minutes? 😉

Now we know why they didn't give us the full season at once most people would have finished it in less than a day lol I really hope season 2 has longer episodes.
No doubt. I'm guessing they didn't really know what to expect, so they went more conservative on episode length. It makes the reported budget seem even crazier, as I was expecting 1hr episodes. Or maybe that's the answer. To get the special effects to the star wars standard, they could only afford to do 30min episodes. I'd say it's likely a combination of both. If season 1 is a huge success, you get a grander scope for season 2. We can hope.

Does it remind anyone else of the serials Disney used to have, like Zorro? With the shorter format, I was reminded of the episodes I used to watch.
