I thought the plan was November 2022?

In a new Vanity Fair article posted today it mentions late 2022/early 2023 -

"Season three of The Mandalorian, reuniting Pedro Pascal’s helmeted gunfighter with his little green ward (you know who), drops in late 2022 or early 2023"

Maybe it will be this year. 🤞 🤞 🤞 🤞 I wonder if they will dedicate the last 5 episodes to Boba Fett since they did that to BoBF. 🤔

Also see confirmation that the Rian Johnson trilogy is certainly still alive and waiting to picked up after fulfilling the Netflix deal he struck.

I can't imagine them committing to a Rian trilogy given how fans were split on The Last Jedi.

Personally, I liked it a lot, and it was the most original film of the trilogy.

If it were up to me I'd let him make a movie or show, but keep it self contained enough not to require sequels to finish the story.

It's crazy because as someone that doesn't like it. I think it's the laziest and least creative film of the trilogy. It's the most on autopilot film out of the trilogy. It just goes, "this is so lazy you know what will happen" and then at the last minute goes, "the opposite."

He won't get his trilogy. TLJ's box office was only from inherited fans. It had a massive drop off in box office after the first week because word of mouth and reaction was bad. Despite the shills in the press trying to pretend otherwise. Then it tanked the franchise to the point they stopped making films.

Its the one film that feels like it has characters and themes rather than archetypes and fan service. Unfortunately, as Lucas found out, Star Wars fandom can be very toxic when they don't get what they think they want. The movie got great reviews and made a ton of money. It had a weekend two dip because of how the holidays fell, its not too uncommon. Solo was going to bomb regardless just because it was a really bad film that had an openly troubled production.

I'd love to see Johnson get his trilogy as planned. He can help revitalize Star Wars and find some new stories to tell within the world.

I don't like the whole, "toxic fan" thing. I think it's divisive and just an ad hominem attack to dismiss large groups of people and associate them as some negative bad people group so their opinions can be ignored. Something which is going on constantly in society these days.

Someone has a different opinion or thinks differently. Don't engage, consider, listen to, empathise or do anything. Just apply the appropriate label. They're bad. Ignore. While getting a dopamine hit that you're a "good."

I didn't love, but I liked Solo. Seen it a few times and it holds up well. It certainly would have done better if Star Wars didn't take a big hit 6 months earlier with TLJ.

If TLJ really was a success, Disney would have known that. They have many metrics for judging success.

Instead, what did they do in response? They scrapped all plans for future films, the franchise went into crisis. Then pleaded with JJ to come in and quickly turn his and Kasdan's treatments from ep8 & 9 into one final mess of a film. With Disney's executives bringing in outside people to create new projects.

They would not have done this is the film was a big success. If it was just some toxic fans, but not the wider audience. The toxic fan thing is just a narrative. The audience rejected it. The fans rejected it. Disney's reaction shows this.

I would like to know what RJ's trilogy would actually be about before I could judge if I have any idea if it would be good or not. I don't think anything from his catalogue of films that I have seen suggests he could do a giant space opera. There were no new or grand ideas in TLJ. It was just generic Star Wars, and about Star Wars.

Disney also now has a great metric for assessing what Star Wars people like with Disney+. If TLJ was getting lots of repeat views we'd be getting RJ's Star Wars trilogy. As a fan, how often do you rewatch it?

There's a problem with the "Disney is shy about Riann making a SW movie" theory...

That is this: Disney seems to be shy about *anyone* making a SW movie.

Brakes were applied hard for everyone. The only ones that are definitely out are the Game of Thrones duo. So, that leaves everyone in the mix, especially if they keep getting mentioned.

If other directors had made or started production on SW movies, and Riann was left out of that... then I'd see that as evidence. Otherwise, all we have is "surely Disney wouldn't" theories.

Imagine if Baby Yoda was leaked... people would be howling about how "surely Disney wouldn't" disrespect Yoda with a Muppet Babies version of him!!!!

Toxic fandom got out of control with the Last Jedi. There was so much gatekeeping with people adamant that anyone who liked it "doesn't understand Star Wars" or "isn't a true fan" and what not. It was so ridiculous. People need to understand that there will always be differing opinions.

I don't think TLJ tanked the franchise. There was a split, but I can't believe enough people hated it to the degree that they didn't even give Solo a chance. I'm not sure why it did so poorly.

Solo has aged the worst of the Disney era for me. I enjoyed it, the writing, action, and dialogue were all good, but it hasn't held up for me. It was always going to be tough recasting Han Solo. There's a reason Harrison Ford was one of the biggest movie stars in the world in his prime. It just felt like they were going through a "Han Solo Origin Story" checklist and it all felt a bit obligatory.

I'm surprised at this take just because The Force Awakens was recognized by everyone as a bit of a rehash of A New Hope, regardless of where one landed on the rating scale. The Rise of Skywalker also leaned into the "will the hero give in to their dark instincts and take power" dilemma we've seen more than once before.

I enjoyed both the Mandolorian and the Book of Boba Fett, but then again I am not passionate Star Wars fan; I was just enjoyed watching them without a critical eye.

Personally I think the last jedi was a really bad movie but if other like it thats fine for them. To me it was just as much a rehash of Empire as force awakens was of new hope but - start with a big battle, split the heroes up, have the trainee jedi go and meet a master and visit a dark side cave, have a trip to a space city / casino. Reunite for the ending. Have a snow/salt planet with imperial walkers. The main differences for me was the cynicism of the movie changing Luke Skywalker to make him a cynical old man and then killing him so Rian J could say ‘look what I did’ and the terrible script- we cant outrun the first order but can leave and have a minor adventure on casino world and come back, yoda talking about ‘page turners’ and the whole ’calling general hux’ bit was just really bad IMO far worse than the ‘sand’ scene in clones. Rise of skywalker was almost as bad for different reasons

The whole sequel trilogy just looks like a massive battle of egos between the creators. Like or loathe the prequel trilogy it does tell a coherent story and one which for me gets better with repeated viewings while the sequels get worse
