I wish they could have both parades at WDW. Just like at Paris where they had Fantillusion and MSEP.

they have never ran them both at the same time

If now, MSEP would be good with an update like Spectromagic.

Tokyo already has it.. it's called dreamlights

Especially the music!!!!:king:

The MSEP music has a much better hook than Spectromagic. However the recording is outdated. I think they should re-record the MSEP music with more up-to-date sounds.

Ahh... The Baroque Hoedown...I don't know how, or why, but a new scoring of that would be simply delicious (although we all know and love the original)... I'd love to see the MSEP come back with a newly- rescored Brq.Hodn... And some new floats...

dreamlights is the updated MSEP currently running in Tokyo Disneyland. It is a 3rd Gen light parade (MSEP-1st Gen, Spectromagic/Fantillusion- 2nd Gen, Dreamlights/Lightmagic- 3rd Gen).

You can find a video of Dreamlights at Barry Bedford's website, which is packed to the gills with videos from TDR and DLPR.

http://www.barrybedford.com

Just follow the links to the TDR section, scroll to the bottom of the page and find the Dreamlights link, click on it, and you're there.

Dreamlights is the parade that Light Magic should have been.

I love both of them, and even though I've seen both the same number of times, I just think MSEP has this... something else... that Spectro doesn't... I don't know... Maybe it's the SpectroDolls, they're SCARY!! :lookaroun

According to Screamscape....

The Main Street Electrical Parade floats will return to WDW once they are retired from Disneyland Paris on March 23rd. The fate of the floats remains unclear, but the common thought is that they will be rehabbed at WDW’s facilities in preperation for Hong Kong Disneyland’s opening.

Spectro has my vote.

I keep the CD in my truck and listen to it whenever I'm at WDW.

I hope it stays at least for a few more years.

that's a possibility, especially since most Disney parade floats are manufactured in the WDW facilities, but by no means will it be performed down main street

Sorry, I know this is going to start some sort of debate. I am dying to say this though. I think that...

You go your 1st Generations right, but, it seems to me that DreamLights! is more second generation along with SpectroMagic! because Fantillusion! and Light Magic are far superior technology wise, storyline wise, show wise. This is one of the rare times in my opinion when Tokyo Disneyland took a step backward by opening DreamLights! and by Disneyland killing Light Magic. Again, my opinion, and I see it more like this.

1st Gen - MSEP
2nd Gen - DreamLights! and SpectroMagic!
3rd Gen - Fantillusion! and Light Magic

weirdone,

if you were to look at the specifications on the floats/technology of the parades, as well as their relative costs, you would see what I mean (not to mention that the way I've posted it is the way that WDI and WDE both refer to them as).

I can see where you're coming from, but knowing what I know, and having seen every one of those parades I've listed in person and on video, I feel that the generations I list them as (1st Gen-MSEP, 2nd Gen-Spectromagic/Fantillusion, 3rd Gen-Dreamlights/Lightmagic). The reasoning behind this:

The MSEP is all Lightbulbs.. that's it. Other than them, there's very little more in the way of technology

Spectromagic and Fantillusion have the traditional lightbulbs, and add Fiberoptics (to a limited degree... Fantillusion has them on the costumes more though) and light spreading thermoplasts (ie- FOG!!) and lighting effects.

Lightmagic and Dreamlights are primarily Fiberoptic (costumes and floats), with even more nontraditional lighting techniques (ie- lightmagic actually used stage lighting off the floats, while Dreamlights uses Fiberoptics in unison with effects)

DreamLights! entirely fiber optics? Are you sure on that one. It seriously looks like light bulbs. I don't think the ENTIRE thing is fiber optics.

And Fantillusion! and SpectroMagic have FOG and other more vared combinations of effects, etc. Wouldn't that make ti technologically-wise superior? I dunno. Not meaning to argue what you say here, it just seems as if WDI has it's stuff backwards to me. - The WeirdOne :D

BTW - I too have seen most of these in person or on video minus SpectroMagic! because I never seem to stay long enough to catch it. Fantillusion! and Light Magic are my favorites. - The WeirdOne :D

I said almost, and I actually meant primarily. It still has lightbulbs like every other Disney light parade, but more high-tech material than other night parades.

Making fog isn't high-tech. Anyone with $70 to spare can buy a fog machine and make the same effects at home. Technologically more superior would mean that the technology required to make it work is more advanced, not a higher amount of less advanced (following in the less is more credo). ie- in algebraic form, Spectro/Fantillusion would have 100% of technology A (now called A. Also known as lightbulbs!) and 100% of technology B (B is a fog machine...albeit more high tech, consisting primarily of LN2, which has been a mainstay of theme parks since the beginning). Lightmagic/Dreamlights have 100% of technology A (lightbulbs!), and 100% of technology C (Fiberoptics).

Now I may be no genius, but it takes a higher level of technology to make Fiberoptics work, than it does to release LN2 (Liquid Nitrogen) into the air to make a fog effect. LN2- for a float, takes a properly calibrated release valve OR a person who knows when to push a button to release it.
